What a wonderful historic experience. Informative, picturesque, great view. Preserved beautifully. We spent about an hour and a half there, taking in every room.

Wonderful history and antiques, rooms as they were a century ago and gardens are very attractive, and the place has great views over Stanley. Need to leave time to explore outside and gardens.

Highfield is a Great property to visit. As a Tour Coach Driver we like taking people there as the Parks staff are always helpful and friendly and there is fresh honey to buy in the carpark tooo!

Absolutely awesome, a real credit to the restoration team. The custodians should be commended. The lady on duty this particular day was awesome and very knowledgeable, a pleasure to talk to. Beautiful place.

Highly recommend a visit to this historic house in Stanley. The restoration has been sensitively carried out and the interpretive signage is excellent in the telling of the history of the house and its occupants.

Highfield house is an interesting historical site with lots of information about the British settlers. It’s very disappointing that there is no acknowledgment of Country and very little about the Aboriginal peoples who were slaughtered or removed to make way for this colonial settlement.

Under renovation when we visited, and very wild wet weather. Great historic site with plenty of recorded history.

Beautifully kept historic site. Such a lovely visit seeing how well this property has been preserved.
Mostly accessible by stroller, (except for upstairs main house area) you need larger wheels to get around on the gravel pathways outside.
There are toilets on site, by the car park which are spotless.
One of the (stable?) buildings is fitted out to hold events.

Very informative with the history of the site and the various families that lived in the residence.

While this isn’t a hike, it’s well worth a visit while in and around Stanley. Fantastic part of our history that has been lovingly restored. So many amazing outbuildings to see.

We visited the Historic Highfield House, a homestead built from 1832-35, with some great views too.

Recommended.
Good restoration of a historic house. Interesting information about the house, people and the times. There was emphasis on the hardness for Europeans of trying to tame a foreign land.
At the same time the Aborigines had been living there for thousands of years. Interactions between the Van Dieman's Land people and the Aborigines were fraught with the Aborigines coming of second best.
Also interesting to see that VDL put out a bounty on Thylacines (Tasmanian Tigers).
There were also tragedies for the settlers. The death of a two year old girl and the suicide of a sensitive young man.

Great ancient place which tells the colonial history of Stanley. Well maintained. $12 per adult.
