HAVILAH reviews
41Sensational food, great drinks, impressive wine selection and lovely staff. Our favorite place to dine/have a cheeky drink in Launceston!
What a fantastic find walking up and down the street. We didn't have a booking but they managed to squeeze us in. A small but varied menu was perfect for us. Spinning vinyl albums from the '80s was a bonus! The owner is also a winemaker so we tried two of his pinot noirs. Both were delicious. I would definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant.
Modern wine bar with excellent drink selection and sophisticated small food menu. Charming staff, and stylish interior.
Fantastic place. Large drinks menu with select food menu. Great atmosphere and music. Highly recommend.
Loved the place. Great people and we particularly loved the Martini cured sardines and the Stargazer Riesling.
Regular clients, usually with several others. Food is great, wine sells itself. Atmosphere WAS great, but the profoundly rude front of house females are destroying it. On one occasion a party of 8 of us found the music was too loud to hear a conversation. When we asked (nicely) if the music could be turned down a little, one of the FoH went back and turned it up. We couldn’t believe it. I went to the bar and asked again and this person just shrugged at me. We left soon after this. Other friends have recently been experiencing the same rude behaviour from the same staff. Save your business- change your FoH staff culture.
Service and food were great, especially the beef short rib. Would have loved to see some more adventurous natural wine on the list but had a great recommendation from the staff. Would happily recommend to anyone heading to Launceston.
Gorgeous night of wine tasting here. My partner and I shared a few nibbles while we were taken through some lovely wines. Beautiful intimate wine bar.
Great food, excellent wine, good service. We had the squid, beef rib, ravioli and chocolate tart - all outstanding. Local wine was very tastey too. Really good wine bar worth visiting
If in Launceston I recommend checking out the cool and cosy Havilah wine bar. Visiting for dinner, I had the wallaby tartar, Boomer Bay oysters and salt cod croquettes to eat along with a Pet Nat.
The oysters dressed in lime and chilli were fresh and beautiful. The wallaby tartar had a nice little kick from the chilli and kimchi, whilst the croquettes were nice and crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. Drink wise I only tried the Pet Nat and it was lovely.
Although I only tried a few small dishes, everything I ordered was delicious. The menu is designed to share so there are smaller plates if you just want a snack and larger plates if you’d like something more substantial. It’s the perfect spot to unwind with a drink. I rate Havilah out of 5.
Very good quality food and wine however after being made to confirm twice our reservation for 6.30pm, we were seated 25 minutes late due to the staff not wanting to clear out the party sitting at our table. We were made to wait outside by a broken heater, and not so much as a “sorry” was said, let alone a free drink. Service is important no matter how popular you are guys.
Amazing food from new chef Chris, the croquettes and wallaby tartare were absolutely fantastic. Perfect bar food with impressive wine selection. A must for every visit to Launceston.
Exactly what you want in a wine bar! Amazing welcoming staff who know their menu well. Where great at recommending a wine based on preferences, great for a chat and created a good atmosphere. Wine range was excellent and all wines where delicious! To stroll in after dinner for a wine this was a lovely end to our night.
Love this place! It’s a wine bar but what really impressed me was the food. Ordered carbonara (specials), grilled prawns (specials), venison carpaccio, and pizza fritta. Carbonara was so good, perfectly classic with egg yolk and no cream, while carpaccio was the other standout for the freshness and taste. The others were just as good too. Of course the wines were awesome as well. Ordered by glass and you really should be expecting bright, fresh glou glou juices instead of classic, mellow burgundians. They pair perfectly with the lighter mouthfeel of the food so it’s a perfect combination. And a nod to the super friendly and knowledgeable staff too! LOVE!
Great concept wine store. Wines by the glass are anything opened (with in reason)
Ricky the wine maker at two tonne wines had a great story and better pinots
Awesome
Absolutely incredible. Amazing, simplistic and flavour-full food, including some more substantial dinner dishes handwritten on butchers paper on the wall. Small producer wines including some by the winemaker-owner of Havilah. A must visit when in Launceston.
They fit us in on a Saturday night with no booking for some most delicious wine and snacks. This is my new spiritual home when I come to Launceston.
Amazing place as a cosy wine bar and would definitely revisit. Our waitress was so good and made me look forward to the meals with her descriptions. The wine was good and I really enjoyed the Sinaplus clem Blanc with the oysters and cod. The ricotta pasta was great too and we were offered some focaccia to dip with the sauce which was so good. Highly recommend and would come again when in Launceston again.
This is a great wine bar. The food we had was absolutely outstanding and we had a few glasses of excellent wine. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Really enjoyed the experience and will be back next time we are in Launceston.
Absolutely delicious meal at Havilah. Totally beyond expectations. The wine was excellent, dishes were superb and well priced. Very welcoming atmosphere. I will definitely be returning next time I’m in Launceston.
