Eaglehawk Dive Centre reviews
27Don't understand why all these complaints about gear and all? Gear was just fine! It's rental gear no different than the one you would get in any other dive centre. None of the wetsuits I saw or that othe other divers had are a pasta strainer so I find those comments too exagerated. My gear was just fine and kept me warm throughout the the dives. The people at the shop made sure I had all I needed and that all thr gear fit well -they helped and recommended me at all times. Dives were great and staff nice!
The wetsuits for hire here look like something you would find at a garage sale or curbside on hard rubbish day.
Purchased a snorkel package and never received gloves, there were holes in the wetsuit shoulders and when I tried to discuss the matter on return staff member 'mick' was rude and abrupt.
The staff wernt very knowledgeable or helpful at all.
Would not waste my time here again
What was supposed to be the highlight of our trip ended up being the biggest regret.
Spending $350 + $60 (accom) for the Discover Scuba Diving, my friend and I had saved up, and expected to be taken to see either the seals, or the dive site with seadragons as suggested by the website (both are labelled as sites good for beginners).
Instead, our first dive was at a snorkel site 30m off the main boat jetty. The second site was better, being in a more remote location, however mostly lacking in marine life. While I understand the role luck plays in diving, we were both massively unimpressed at being brought to the first site.
I called and asked for a partial refund, telling Karen that the first site was inappropriate. While polite, I received a firm no.
If you have your PADI, I'm sure EDC is fine. But without it, I can't strongly enough NOT recommend doing the Discover Scuba Diving course, especially for the hefty price.
I visited the dive centre 30 December 2019 and participate in the afternoon diving trip. This trip included two dives, with locations selected on the day to cater to customers' diving experience and weather conditions. On arrival at the dive centre, customers are sized for equipment before heading to the boat ramp by minibus. The equipment is in good order, with 7mm wetsuits provided, along with gloves and both socks and boots. I dived with dive instructor Matt, one of the live-in staff and with one other customer. I am an experienced diver in tropical water, but I found the colder waters and significantly different conditions and scenery an enjoyable challenge. On the dives we saw Weedy Sea Dragoons, Crayfish, crabs and a Draughtboard Shark.
I definitely recommend this to divers dropping through the area, all the staff are great, it's a relaxing day and the experience is so different to tropical diving. I will certainly be telling my dive mates in Queensland to check it out.
Phenomenal diving, have logged 70+ dives with Eaglehawk Dive Centre. Full detailed review on their tripadvisor.
Temperate water diving at its absolute best. After 16 years of diving in cold water, this place still manages to amaze me on every occasion. Experienced divers and photographers will have a field day, as there is no hand holding or pep talks from muppet DM's on this boat. Mick will put you right on the mark and you can dive with the confidence that an experienced helmsman will be there to collect you when you surface. Can't wait to head back!
Do not use these operators. This was the most unprofessional setup I have ever come across being run out of the guys farm shed which coupled with some of the higher charging places we have dived with just doesn't fit. You're better off hiring gear and a boat yourself since they do not include any guide or direction anyway (this they charge $70 extra for). On top of this the thieves charged my partner $85 to join us on the boat (no seating or amenities at all just a large tinny) though she was unable to dive due to illness which we advised to them days prior and i paid for a guide to be my buddy so i could still dive on my own. She was pushed into wearing a wetsuit in case she got splashed but was never advised they would charge her for it and wouldn't have worn if she knew, she was also refused a cup of soup he had for others because he "didn't expect her to be on board so didn't pack an extra cup". Just all round poor operators and wouldn't recommend. The diving itself however is quite beautiful so look for other options.
