Clarendon Arms reviews
39Old World charm. Nice beer garden but choose a shady spot. Meals were nice. Snitty was huge. Lovely pork belly salad.
Fantastic place but let down by poor service, we left after our main course as no-one appeared for 15minutes to clear the plates (which were not finished). The food was poor pub food at high prices, the chicken parmi should be perfect anywhere in Australia but not overcooked as both of ours were, dry and with overcooked chips and curly ham, a boring salad alongside. No entrees reflected a dull menu with no more excitement than the curly ham.
Very good meals, friendly staff, only complaint was it was hard to attract service staff after our meal to order coffee. Will definately eat there again when next in TAS
Fantastic vibe! Great live music and delicious food! The service is also excellent. We love this place!
Sunday lunch outside in the garden with live music.heavenly. The seafood pie and salad was excellent with a glass of Milton Rose. Finished off with coffee and cake indoors after the rush had dispersed. Great staff, but prices are a little on expensive side for Tas. The only other that annoys me is flies inside when trying to enjoy food, they should invest in a fly repellant for summer!
Denying entry to people based on their medical status. Besides that way overpriced for what you receive. Boycott!
One of the best restaurants i’ve been to.the food was appropriately priced for how much there was, both in size and how much it filled you up.the drinks were really nice and my family had a very nice lunch with our experience and the service we had.
What a great afternoon in the beer garden, very relaxing listening to the Roller Rockers. Will b back
Oh what a fabulous beer garden. Live music, fantastic food and platters, exceptional service. Beautiful shade trees and large sun umbrellas made it comfy on a warm sunny day. The staff were so helpful for our large group.
What a fabulous place to while away time with friends, enjoying delicious food in a splendid environment.
Food was OK when it finally arrived except being a bit bland. What was offensive was being pushed into using an online ordering system which has a mandatory surcharge and even asks for a tip before I've even received any service. On top of that rudeness it didn't work and we were left waiting for our food and drinks. After the system faltered other patrons were offered to just order as normal and weren't stung with a nonsense surcharge. I won't be returning to be ripped off by dodgy web app outsourcing of the wait staff's job to the customer themself who then has to pay more for the privilege.
Awesome beer garden, live music. Great service, really friendly and helpful about how long food would take when we had to leave on time for a flight. Delicious burger!
Great beer garden and service from the guy in the bar out the back wearing the bad thirst t-shirt!
Good for a sunday session.
Family catchup.we came 10 min before closing time for lunch. 6 of us.all meals were very nice.would revommend a meal here
We are regular customers to Clarendon Arms and we always get great hospitality from Tess. Highly recommended. Excellent atmosphere and as usual the food is great. Do not forget about their dessert. Thumbs up!
Delicious fare, good service, friendly folk, a cosy fire and reasonable prices in a delightful old pub What more could you ask for? Remember to book.
This pub Is great good food, great staff. Always happy to help you with even the smallest of questions.
Whenever we're in the north of Tassie this place is on our minds.
Would recommend booking though so your not disappointed
Don't go to the Clarendon Arms if you believe that food should be well prepared, well presented and appropriately priced and that service should be prompt and respectful. About three-quarters of an hour after our order of salads, fish pies and a platter had not arrived, I left our table to raise the tardiness with the staff. I received a surly response in which I was told that the wait was 'standard' and that we would have been served more promptly had we booked. I suggested that because the place was only 2/3 full it was more likely that the kitchen wasn't coping.
The food that eventually arrived was way below par. One of the copper ramekins containing a fish pie was far from full and my 'Christmas Salad' was a similar distance from festive. It consisted of industrial sliced turkey, that you'd find in a supermarket, mixed with some kind of filler with a few semi-dried cranberries scattered over the top and two snow peas/mange-touts at either end of the rectangular plate. Similarly, the 'green salad' on other plates may well have been a handful of leaves from the supermarket with halved cherry tomatoes through it and a commercial dressing dribbled over it. The platter looked cheap and ungenerous.
The waitress apologised for our wait but walked away, seeming not to notice that two meals were missing. She had to be chased. A woman at a table near us had tried to get the same waitress's attention but gave up after the third failure. Her table of four left as soon as they had finished eating.
That said, it is lovely to be under the shady trees in the garden at the back of the Clarendon Arms and I'd go back to have a drink there with friends, but eating is out of the question until standards return to the glory days of quite long ago at this establishment.
We have been going to the Clarendon Arms for years, during annual visits to Tasmania, but we won't return until we hear reliable reports noting a big turnaround. There are so many good alternatives in beautiful Tasmania. The Tamar Valley and the Seaport in Launceston are good alternatives and they are close by.
