Canton Restaurant reviews
32We came for the $25 business lunch which was short wonton soup and my husband Andrew had the chicken sweetcorn soup, then honey chicken and sweet and sour pork and fried rice was excellent and service from Judy was very good as well, will recommend this Cantonese restaurant in Charles st Launceston.
This might be the worst chinese food I have ever had.
I had a combination satay that looked more like it was American gravy than satay. Our Mongolian Beef had the toughest meat ever and the Chicken with Cashew Nuts was truly something awful.
An “extra large” rice was about the size of a single serve at any other restaurant on the planet.
Highly, highly recommend not attending. Eating out of the garbage bin would’ve been tastier.
Had shared plates, Combination sweet n sour, and House special fried rice. Delicious.
Finished off the night with a Jamaican Coffee,
As authentic and old school as it gets, with the fabulous company of family and lt friends, comfort and easy atmosphere.this Chinese Restaurant never fails to deliver. Had the slow roasted crispy skin duck.crispy skin melted with the duck.divine! '
Huge menu, classics even Mapo Dofu! A must for Launceston visitors.
Very good Chinese food, service is always pleasant. I recommend it to anyone who want to try A1 Chinese food in Launceston. Plenty of options.
Sue and I have missed our visits to Canton Cafe, We really enjoyed our
Meals, Sue had Noel's house special,
I had Combination Chow Mein.
Great service, the staff are very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is quite spacious. The food is fairly authentic and good. I am glad that we have this restaurant in Launceston.
Haven't been for years, delighted to return and find they still have the same great lunch specials. Lovely fresh food. Great service!
Wonderful find, great service, delicious food, good price. My Taiwanese fiance said it was the most authentic chinese food she'd had in ten years in Australia.
Walked in and lucky to get a table meal was delicious I had satay beef and veges with fried rice
Ever get the feeling of being an unwanted customer? This happened to myself after visiting Canton Restaurant (19/2/22). Although a quiet Saturday night, the waitress had me sit right at the back of the establishment, as far as away from other patrons as possible, and right near the toilets. The meal (Mongolian lamb) should have been renamed Mongolian vegetables, and the steamed rice was undercooked - I suspect this was due to an error of fried rice being originally sent out. It seems a hurriedly made replacement was whisked up. After waiting to visit this place after a few years absence (I live interstate), the anticipated experience was a complete letdown. Also, be warned, there is a difference between eating inside and takeaway.
It was our anniversary yesterday and we do love Chinese food so we set of from Hobart for a lovely night at country club villas and a Chinese meal looked up some and discided on canton restaurant in Charles Street Launceston well where would one start I am very upset do they even know what a Chinese meal looks like no I don't think so we had chicken and cashew we was the chicken all I got was celery and little corn not good and the other one was Cantonese beef well where was the beef in that well who knows just be warned don't go there I am so upset still
Highly recommended, if you're after Cantonese food. We ordered chef special duckling and house made trio (3 coloured) icecream. In particular, I was stunned by Cantonese flavour of the duckling served and in-house sesame icecream, green tea icecream. I've never tasted such superb sesame and green tea icecream else where.
The best authentic Chinese dishes in Launceston I have ever tasted. Recommend Prawns Win Fun with egg sauce, delicious and large servings. Reasonably priced and we were served quickly. Also has BYO
Great service but the food is bad. The meat and prawns doesn’t have any taste at all but the sauce is either too sweet or too sour. I have heard that this place is used to be really good. So disappointed.
Bland and sub-par quality of food… Customer service even worse. Received wrong order about 4 times… Would not recommend at all!
Prawn crackers 8/10 tasty, but hard to muck up.
Satay beef - no flavour lots of pineapple 2/10
Fried rice for $27 with prawns, looked and tasted like boiled rice with a few prawns thrown in. No colour. No flavour. 2/10
Sweet n Sour Pork 7/10
Char Shew 4/10 lots of sauce.
Honey Chicken. Very very bland. Almost like lemon chicken with no lemon. 1/10
Overall disappointing and flavourless, I’d try elsewhere.: (
Went to Canton today for my 60th birthday, what a disappointment. The dim sims are definitely not the original ones, very rubbery inside and only half the size. Two of us never hot our mains until the rest was nearly finished, and then only when we reminded them. The banana fritters came with icecream that was full of ice. The service overall was very average. We have visited this restaurant for years but it was obvious the owners had changed.lift your game.
Service was good but the food was worse than terrible. If you’re looking for good, cheap Chinese food this isn’t the place.
