Brickendon Estate - UNESCO World Heritage Site reviews
41Absolutely stunning gardens and Colonial era buildings. Absolutely well worth the time spent.
Wonderfully preserved history, Brickendon Estate is one of 11 convict sites in Australia, six of which in Tasmania. From the stories of the convicts to the buildings and tools used for the many activities conducted on the farm this is a place well worth the visit. With cows, donkeys, geese, ducks and chicken there is something for everyone. We spent just over an hour there and could have spent more time reading more stories (but have the stories in a guide we were given on entry anyway) and discovering the heritage farm but we left it a little late in the afternoon. Suggest slow at least 2 hours. Glad we visited.
I booked The Archery as a venue for a workshop and would highly recommend it! The venue is beautiful with great lighting and features. Louise and Eliza were absolutely fantastic to deal with, organised and really accommodating. The BBQ lunch was great and many of the workshop participants commented on how delicious it was. Thank you so much for having us!
Great to see history preserved for future generations. Interesting exhibits and very welcoming host
A very interesting place to stroll around, lots of old buildings, machinery going back many years. Some of the buildings go back to 1824.
The cabin was rustic but comfortably decorated. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay in a 1 BR cottage with back porch overlooking the fields, and learning about the estate’s history and the family tree. There are other historic buildings to explore and beautiful gardens to walk. This is a peaceful location with stores and restaurants just a short drive away. It wasn’t far to the Launceston airport for our departure the next day. Definitely recommend!
Worth visiting for sure. Immerse self in the history, see how tiny little each individual we are. Very lovely couple - Louise and Andrew. All the best wishes to your land and your family. Also hope more heritage and historical place could be opened to public, sharing the knowledge and history shine.
Amazing site, though the wealth of the estate on the backs of conviction labour really irks - the land was just given to the family after all by the govt of the time.more correctly stolen from the local Aboriginals.
Not sure what the entry fees are being used for.whilst there have been some signs and info erected, the buildings look like they are slowly decaying and deteriorating.
I suppose I would say, see it while you can.
Great place to visit! Lots of heritage from a farm run from 7 generations recommend to anyone thinking of going well worth the cost $15 adult
It is a nice location. Great glimpse in the past. The kids however had seen enough old houses and were more interested in feeding the ducks). It would be great if family passes were a bit less (as everywhere else) as you have to pay same amount as if you pay all separate.
You have tobwatch the video to understand the story of Brickendon and the Woolmers Estates. Great to see a family give it all to keep the farm.
A must visit.
Kids friendly place. Get to feed the animal on the farm. Good place to visit if you are staying in longford if not dont bother to specially make time for this location
Absolutely love Brickendon! Wonderful place full of history, beautiful gardens and historic buildings to explore. Great for kids as there are lots of animals to see and feed. Come here whenever we have the chance.
A nice way to spend a couple of hours or so looking at some colonial heritage buildings and gardens as well as learning about the history of the family who have ran the estate for almost 200 years.
Wonderfully preserved buildings offering a fascinating insight into Tasmania's convict past. The gardens are well worth a visit too.
Great historic site - real feel to the place with the chickens and ducks around and working farm
My nephew Michael got married here to his soul mate Teegan! So romantic and a beautiful setting
Laid out nicely to walk around, brochure was quite informative. They've done a nice job of showcasing the history.
What a gem. Immaculately presented, this historic collection of buildings deserves a few hours of your time. The ducks, chooks, geese, goats and sheep all add to the experience. Very friendly and helpful staff. Don't miss this place!
Amazing record of Australian history and how buildings were constructed as well as an insight into early rural living in Tasmania. Definitely worth the visit.
