Bread & Butter reviews
62Was looking for a place for breakfast and was drawn to Bread & Butter as the freshly baked goods smelled heavenly. Best choice made as the chocolate walnut croissant was absolutely delicious, the chocolate croissant and banana bread super yummy and the chocolate chip cookie one of the best i’ve ever had. Coffee was great as well.wished i had one more day in Launceston to try the other pastries. 10/10 would recommend.
Super friendly staff and fast service! I have tried a large range of their sweet and savoury options. What I ordered plus what I personally recommend (5 out of 13 items) listed below;
SAVOURY
- Lamb sausage roll
Absolutely loved the lamb sausage roll! Can definitely taste the lamb, crunchy buttery pastry and definitely pairs nicely with relish.
- House-made spiced chickpea roll
If you love the taste of masala + chickpeas and would love something filling, this would be the roll for you! Can definitely be eaten without relish and tastes great!
- Lamb pie (pie of the day)
Crunchy buttery and soft pastry, saucy and enjoyable even without relish
- Breakfast roll
A classic mini breakfast burger, a bit larger than a Macca's cheeseburger (in bread bun height) but simple and what you would expect from a milk bun, egg, bacon + relish burger.
- Beef pastrami sandwich
A very filling sandwich layered with lettuce, mayo, mustard, cheese and beef pastrami. If you're looking for a quick, easy, no-mess meal this would be the way to go.
PASTRIES
- Walnut croissant
Absolutely amazing! Loved the walnut filling and crunchy walnut covered croissant exterior. Highly recommend this! It is sweet (but not too sweet that you would get sick of it) and the croissant is very crunchy, topped with a bit of icing sugar.
- Butter croissant
A classic croissant, very simple and buttery in flavour if you are looking for something plain and simple.
- Cranberry sweet Danish
Shame the cranberry + crushed pistachio topping was limited to the centre, definitely a nice sweet topping. The pastry is very crunchy and buttery.
- Pumpkin feta Danish
Can never go wrong with a pumpkin feta combo, shame it was limited as a topping, otherwise the pastry was still enjoyable, a crunchy and buttery exterior.
CAKES
- Bostock
The combination of a French toast and almond croissant. Bostock's texture is similar to a dense sponge cake with a thin marmalade filling.
- Pistachio cake
A dense sponge cake soaked with a light syrup and has a strong punch of pistachio flavour, if you were to try a cake I'd recommend this one.
COOKIES
- Salted choc chip cookie
A classic chocolate chip cookie, the pinch of sea salt helps accentuate the chocolate flavour.
- Oatmeal raisin cookie
Loved the oatmeal raisin cookie Not overly sweet and the raisins are definitely a nice touch! Out of the two cookies, I'd easily go for seconds for the oat cookie!
My partner asked me if I wanted him to bring me back anything from his trip to Launceston. I couldn’t think of anything in particular but asked him to bring back some Bread and Butter which I always love to get when we visit.
He placed an order for several items the evening before and received a confirmation email. When we went to collect his order at the pre-arranged time, the staff had sold out of every item in our order (plain and chocolate croissants and danishes) and we left empty handed. What a shocking experience. And they only refunded him only half of his order? !
Reply to owner: This would be an unfair rating if it were based on a simple error when the order didn’t get processed correctly. However, the experience then became an even more bitter issue when only a fraction of the order was refunded. That’s two “mistakes” in case you’ve lost count. All of this is topped with a disgruntled owner who cares more about his online ratings than the customer’s experience. Flaky service to go with your flaky croissants.
Great place for beautiful fresh bread products. Excellent breaky and coffee. Gorgeous staff. Trendy decor, hip and happening.
My original review was negative, but I have mad respect for the manager for not just going "oh sorry we couldn't meet your standards we'll do better next time please come back". And honestly, the hot chocolates are pretty good.
Staff are warm and friendly. The coffee is excellent and the food is fresh and tasty. Great space to enjoy good food and company. Will be coming back again.
Outstanding bread we come here every time we visit launceston. We had the fruit toast for breakfast, massive serving full of apricots and figs and spice (I think there were fennel seeds too, so good). Love the added touch of being able to toast your own! Served with Tasmanian butter. Great coffee- oat milk substitute was delicious! Grabbed an interesting pomegranate kombucha for the road as well.
The croissants here are amazing! Great flavour, crunch and texture. Let's not forget about the coffee! Very well made with excellent taste and quality. Definitely the best coffee I've had here in Launceston.
The Cafe has an industrial feel to it but not too "hip" for the rest of us to enjoy.
Friendly staff and efficient
I would most definitely recommend coming here!
Bread and Butter is an industrial style spacious cafe. The bakery puts out some of the best breads and treats, and the speciality coffee I had was amazing. They have definitely nailed the products.
For me, the counter service led to a disappointing experience. It feels like a miss for potential up selling and customer engagement. Free refills for filter coffee is a nice perk but we were only told when our table was cleared long after finishing our first coffee. An item was forgotten from my order which would have been easier to correct if there was table service. The building also feels under utilised, no single/2 person tables.
Would recommend for take away as the coffee and pastries are great but the lack of attentiveness was a let down.
Reminds me of Lune in Melbourne. Add this to your visit list if you’re from out of town. Great coffee and awesome baked goods!
Like most reviews have mentioned, there is only full cream or oat milk for coffees. I dined in with a friend, and ordered our coffees at the same time as our food. The coffee came out much later than our food, and I observed many takeaway coffee customers who arrived and ordered after us walk away with coffees before ours was served. I had the ham and cheese croissant, and although I appreciate the local ham, cheese and croissant made from house butter, it was small for the price and incredibly greasy. Additionally, even though it was a warm morning outside, I had to duck to the car for a jumper. I think this place has potential, and I look forward to visiting again.
Crossaint, bread + butter banana bread is really good especially with the in house butter. Latte and mocha not so strong taste as our liking. Great place to chill
Just love this place. You feel at home the minute you walk in here. Really friendly staff and the atmosphere is great. It is rustic but homey. This is the kind of place that I would like in my own beautiful country South Africa
Good but overpriced
had a nice italian "deli roll" which was very enjoyable but priced at around $15 a bit rich. We also had a slice of pizza which was $8.50 and not so good.more like a slice of bread with miniscule topping
Beautifully designed place. Friendly staff and the Bostock is delicious.
Fantastic idea to be able to do your own toast:)
Wasn’t busy when I took the photo because of heavy rain outside. Nice music too.
Espresso is good but could be better. The meat Baguette with fennel salami was perfect. Will definitely come back if I’m in the area, even though the prices are a little steep.
Food was amazing and the bread and croissants were amazing.
Unfortunately didn't get to eat there but sardines looked amazing when the couple next to us tried it. Which they were giving great reviews on.
The croissant was crispy with flaky crust and the butter was simply devine. Watch out Lune, this is definitely a winner.
Walnut croissant was the best I'd ever had. Coffee was a bit bitter to my taste, but that's just a personal preference of beans. I'd go here again.
Pricey food and bad coffees, limited choice. No skim or soy milk which I found strange for a 'hipster' coffee house. We did challenge the barista but were told 'thats your options'!
All foccacia/baguettes priced at $12.50 or more had salami with no other meat just 1 veg option.
Launceston isn't Sydney or Melbourne thus you would expect it to be more affordable.
We went next door as it was a Saturday and found the coffee at the market to be epic!
