Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary reviews
55 Excellent sanctuary,
we had a very good free explanatory tour for 1 hour!
We recommend arriving at opening to be more peaceful
Myself and my sister visited after getting a taxi from Hobart, completely worth the money! The views are spectacular and the animals are beautiful. The park is small but it’s exactly what it says on the tin as a sanctuary not a zoo. The staff were very informative and helpful and had a genuine love of animals! Was lovely to feed some of the kangaroos! The Tasmanian Devils and echidnas were my favourite part! We went for the time it opened and we had an hour or so with being some of the only people there:)
Food and coffee available if needed:) and we had to get a few souvenirs after!
Always love visiting Bonorong. The staff are lovely and take their time to explain every animal encounter. Plenty free roaming, relaxing wallabies and kangaroos around the Place. Bonorong volunteers and staff also rescue injured animals proactively.
Worth taking the annual pass too.
Animal enclosures are well looked after and large. The grounds look like they are constantly being renewed. There was quite a few animals to see. The view was magnificent. Viewing Tassie devils was perfect! The echidnas were delightful.
The place where injured animals are rescued, nutured and released back to the wild.clean and spacious shelter for animals.
Australian wildlife at its best. Plus our Tasmanian Devil's which really are very cute! Make time to feed the kangaroos as you walk around and try to guess 'What owl was that'. Was a tawny frogmouth owl! Wonderful sanctuary and great staff.
Also guides to take you around and handle these beautiful animals.
I love everything about this place. Their whole ethics align with mine right down to using no plastic at the cafe and the vegan only food. The food is delicious btw!
The tour was extremely informative and not rushed at all. There was plenty of opportunities to ask questions. You can get so close to the animals and sit, feed and pat the kangaroos.
It's not a zoo.it all revolves around rehabilitation of injured native animals. None just for show! It was the highlight of our trip. We'll visit again.
A great day and experience. Loved how close you could get to all the animals & the tour was excellent. Got to see all the Tassie furry friends
Went on a night feeding tour (third time for us). Was amazing as always. Fantastic place, staff are all excellent and passionate about what they do. Had some amazing encounters with some adorable animals.
Great experiences with native animals. The free tour was excellent. Most of these animals were saved from dying on the side of the road!
Great place to bring the family shame it's not accessible to all Tasmanians the price limits the lower income families from having access wonder how many families from Bridgwater and Gagebrook have been to visit
My husband and I had a night time tour with Caitlan at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. Caitlan was very knowledgeable and taught us so much about the animals and the sanctuary. She was a great host and very friendly. Was a great experience to be able to feed the animals and see them at night time. Highly recommend a night time tour at Bonorong with Caitlan! Thank you!
We rescued a Joey on road and contacted them. They kept messaging us to send him to them. We did the next day and sent him to Moonah after hours vet and the nurse who checked him said he is in great condition and they will transfer him to Bonorong later, but when we call back to the vet next day morning. They said they had to put the Joey to “sleep” by law as Bonorong had replied them that there were no available carer site for this Joey. So what you think the heaven you send the animal to might be the BUTCHER&DEATH. What a sarcasm it is. So sad and disappointing. Here is what I think, what if the Joey I sent to them is a Tasmanian tiger baby? Will they leave him to death? I don’t think so, they probably will make it available even it is actually not. So lives in their eyes have been tagged a price first, some are more precious than others. HYPOCRITE!!!
Had such an amazing experience here. My husband got us the feeding frenzy tour and usually it’s with a group of people but we were lucky for it’s to just be us. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and definitely recommend this to everyone.
We did the feeding frenzy at Bonorong and it was fantastic. Great access, knowledgeable guide, fun and informative experience for all the family and all for a good cause. Strongly recommended
The nocturnal tour was a fantastic experience and an absolute highlight of the trip, made all the better because the proceeds all go towards rescuing wildlife. The team are friendly, knowledgeable and truly passionate about the welfare of the animals!
My boys and I love it here. Amazing, friendly staff who always have the animals, environment and Tassie front of mind. We have been and will continue to be regular visitors.
This place is very underrated. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They were more than happy to answer my silly questions. There are a lot of rare native animals. And the kangaroos are chilled and love to eat out of your hands. A must visit if you're in Tassie.
Amazing place to visit and great experience for all ages. Didn't know Kookaburras were introduced species. Daily your was every informative and educational. They look after rescued animals there.
One of the best sanctuary's I have visited, and always happy to support places that don't receive government funding. All the animals were awake, be sure to attend one of the guided tours and visit the gift shop. Friendly and knowledgeable staff!
