Bar Wa Izakaya reviews
59 My first and last time to dine in here.
I love my foods to be spicy, so I ordered extra Chili and I have to paid extra $1 for the Chili, I thought that's fine, as long as I get the Chili to mix in my ramen, when I asked the waitress about the Chili, she told me that the Chili is very spicy. Well it's have to be spicy if I have to pay $1 for it.
Anyway, when the ramen came, I thought they will give me the Chili in a reasonable size, but it's not, the Chili was only 1 single Chili
1 piece of Chili that cost me $1 and not even spicy, not as spicy as I like
Anyway to be fair, the chicken was nice, the mushrooms nice and the pork are nice.
But $1 for 1 piece of Chili? Come on guys, the Vietnamese restaurant accros the road give the Chillies for free, customers can get it as much as they want.
Only managed to sneak in to grab the ramen special for lunch but it was by far the best ramen we've ever eaten. Had the pork broth which had both belly and pulled pork along with a stack of noodles and other additions; really delicious and filling.
Don't tell the chef but it also tasted great once we tipped our Yakisoba noodles (also delicious) in the last of the broth
Amazing spot. Food and drinks are always incredible. The rich and moreish ramen for lunch through to a full smorgasbord for dinner, you won't be disappointed. The side of potato's and the karagé chicken are a simple highlight. Staff are always friendly too and the chefs there are pretty much culinary gods
Good food but it really needs to improve on the service provided. We were a group of 6 and were crammed into a table for 4 despite making a very early booking. The booths for larger groups were empty the whole time that we dined. One of the ladies who served us was quite unpleasant and sort of just dumped the food on the table each time a dish was served. Won’t be in a rush to dine here again.
Bar Wa is a wonderful experience from start to finish. Friendly service, delicious meals, tasty cocktails and a great atmosphere make it an absolute must for anyone looking for a feed in Hobart. Try it. You will not be disappointed.
Have had Ramen all over Australia, east coast to west. Hands down the absolute best Ramen you will have. The broth is rich, the pork belly is tender, everything in this bowl belongs. Has genuinely ruined all other ramens for me.which would be okay except for the fact I don't live in Tasmania! If you're in Hobart and love Ramen, do not miss this place.
Woah. If you eat anywhere in Hobart. Make sure it's here! Such beautiful flavours. So many unique dishes to try. And epic Sake menu if that's your Thang!
Be sure to make a booking as I was lucky to get a walk in seat when I went. I highly recommend going for the oyster happy hour from 4-6pm ️
I'm surprised people have rated this 5 stars. Personally I found myself feeling ambivalent about the atmosphere of the place. Why? Because the art is very confusing it's too hectic and not aligned with the "cyberpunk " label people have mentioned already if that's what they're going for. The food wasn't even close to Japanese cuisine at all.
Amazing service. They have an extremely wonderful team. The restaurant is clean, beautiful and has beautiful artwork. Food is outstanding! I’m completely addicted!
Bar Wa is a must stop if I do say so myself.
You come in and are truly immersed by the environment. Trust me when I say pictures do not do it justice.
A thing to note is that it does get quite busy in the evening, so a booking is essential for the perfect seating.
We had a dozen of the mixed oysters, okonomiyaki, sashimi with freshly grated wasabi and two cocktails.
But it didn't stop there, we were so impressed by the friendliness of staffs and cleanliness, we came back for ramen and ice cream. The house made black sesame ice cream was hands down my favourite ice cream of all time and I've been to the likes of Pipapippo, Messina and Picolina. That says a lot!
Price wise, expect to spend an extra $ there - you're really paying for the experience here. It's one of Hobart's gem and I daresay you've wasted a trip if you do not visit this spot!
Delicious food served similar to izakayas in Japan. Plentiful range of beer, whiskey, sake and cocktails from local and Japanese sources. Prepare to book
Biggest selection of drinks. Ordered ramen which was okay, nothing to complain and awesome oconimiyaki we’ve tried
Food was amazing, great drinks, really nice place. We did feel the service was a little off-putting.
5 stars for the amazing food, definitely did not disappoint! Could not fault a single dish but also can't pick a favourite either because they were all so delicious. Great drinks menu as well.
The staff were friendly and great but did kind of forget us sometimes other than that everything was great.
Ordered edamame, rice, agedashi tofu and shiro miso braised mushrooms. The mushroom was by far one of the most awesome dish I’ve ever had and cannot recommend this enough!
Five stars for service.but only three for food. Definitely don't show up hoping for anything authentic. This is a western run restaurant and you can taste it in every bite.
The gyozas with ponzu were a bit pungent, very un-japanese and difficult to finish. The karaage chicken pieces were cut way too big and seemed to have standard roast chicken under more salty coating. The "tempura mushroom" was caked with thick fish n chips style batter. The tataki tasted like salami. Best mentions were the oysters and sashimi, but those may have tasted good anywhere.
However, the service was stellar! Our waitresses were lovely and the sake pour was very generous. The plates and ambience were all beautiful. I only wish I had more to observe before booking so I could have set my expectations appropriately. Overall, a nice night overall. I don't think we will return.
This is a review based entirely on the experience of the service organising a surprise for a freind. I did not eat there but I am told it was amazing. After hearing some last minute news from a freind, I wanted to organise a celebratory bottle of champagne on arrival for my friend visiting town. Richard (I believe the owner) was more than willing to help. The place sounded pumping but not once did he say it wasn't possible to do anything. He excelled in customer service. He was incredibly helpful and willing to make this a special occasion. This is they type of hospitality that creates a top quality joint, and what Tasmania is known for! I will be visiting myself when I can take time away from my own restaurant. Thanks so much to Richard and his team for this last minute request!
One of the best restaurants in Hobart, we would love to see some sushis as starters but anyway couldn't recommend more this place
Food was great. Service was good but not great.
Main issue was seating. Very uncomfortable bar seating arrangement was no good for our elderly parents. We raised the issue on the arrival but no solution offered.
My partner and I came across this awesome little place whilst in Hobart and were sooo impressed by the service (staff were super helpful and friendly), the drinks and food was on point and the fit out of the venue was amazing too!
