Vivonne Bay General Store

No menu too look at before you get to the counter, old chalkboard menu covered with a sheet, only hot chip option was a small cup (hanging on the wall no price or indicator that it's the only option). So much potential and stories of how it used to be was the only reason for a stop not worth getting out for.

After reading all the online review I knew I had to try the burgers here. The vegetarian burger was delicious and the burger sizes are quite generous.

We tried the “famous” fish sandwich but maybe we just had a bad luck. It was quite avarage small piece of fish with lack of sauce. Of course you love it because you have no other place to go close by. Expect overpriced and not really friendly service. Hope will improve but without competition i doubt.: (

Yep can see why this place is so busy even at 3pm, the food is well what can I say worth the drive to eat. Went In with expecting a good meal come out with a full tummy and wanting to come back. The burgers were pretty good lots to pick from.

They had us at "Home of the famous whiting burger". Naturally, we had to try it or miss the chance! It was good, but it is expensive for what it is: a sandwich with one tiny strip of whiting and lots and lots of vegetables. For less than its price, one can simply get 2 big whitings and a side salad; add an extra bread if you want to recreate this famous whiting burger.

Obviously, I wouldn't say the above unless we have actually tried it. We've traveled far and wide and have tried a lot of places like this to actually have a price point comparison.

I did not expected that I would come across such a wonderful restaurant and will get such a tasty burger. Restaurant was full of people, parking packed with cars, after eating then I realised why so many people are here

Highly recommend the Vivonne Bay General Store. Driving to the Flinders Chase National Park, there's no real option for food apart from this General Store, however you wouldn't know that because they definitely deliver on food and customer service. We went back again on our way home from the National Park.

Such a great little hidden gem. The whiting burger was delicious. Friendly family owned Cafe. Definitely stop here on your way through to the National Park.

The ladies are 10 star. We are so glad we called in. The lady working in the kitchen was fantastic, nothing was to much trouble.

The whiting burger really is not to be missed.and the coffee certainly gets you through as there is no other barista near by.inwill be back for more!

The food was great, but watch out for their cranky chef. There was a mix up where another customers order was put on our tray and she accused us of stealing until she realised that the orders had been put on the one tray and it was a mistake. It was really rude and we felt uncomfortable eating the rest of our meal there. The experience was enough to make us keep driving through on the way back from the national park.

Great coffee and the white chocolate salted caramel slice is AMAZING! Definitely worth stopping for.

Amazing whiting burger and staff. Don’t listen to some of the other negative comments, the staff are lovely and the burgers top off a great lunch

The only food and petrol pitstop on this part of Kangaroo Island.
Family run, friendly and warm welcome from the owners, if they are not too busy, they will make time to have a friendly yarn.
The food is fresh, delicious and are large servings, lots of old school favourites on the menu well cooked!
We visited 3 times whilst visiting the area and they remembered us!

A June long weekend and accordingly busy. However the staff worked hard to meet the orders. Our BLTs were great and the chips very generous in size! Coffees great. Thanks to all the family and staff helping out.

Smaller than expected and a limited menu. Had a very nice Chicken burger. Like the reviews say the chips are quite big. A little soggy but with good flavour.

Lunch at @vivonnebaygeneral - currently pretty much the only shop around the Vivonne Bay area that serves food. A must-go if you're in the area!

Famous whiting burger: a big piece of battered fried whiting in a toasted sandwich style bun. The whiting was absolutely cooked to perfection! It was so tender. You must have this!

Skip the chips if you don't like salty food. Omg there was so much salt on the fries. And this is coming from a person who likes salty fries.

Food was very nice - haloumi burger & whiting burger. Fresh & tasty.
However that was completely overshadowed by the rudeness of the staff. As we were finishing up the music was out on so loud you had to yell across a 2 person table to have a conversation.
Got the impression it was a "we are the only place open so if you don't like it then tough" attitude.
Take your own food with you & bypass this place.

This is a hidden gem in the middle of nowhere. From outside it conceals what will surprise you. Their signature whiting burger will take you by surprise. I really enjoyed the stopover after an hour's drive from the east coast.
