Vivonne Bay General Store

The chips were freshly cooked, piping hot, crispy and smothered in chicken salt. Similarly, the calamari rings were fresh and crunchy. The kids cheeseburger is a generous size while the famous whiting burger was scrumptious. It has the cleanest outdoor restroom we've ever come across.

General store is ok, not many options though.
Avoid the caravan park, it's small and your ontop of everyone. It's a last resort for accommodation and i won't stay there again.

Good stop on the way to and fro Flinders Chase. Food was fantastic; we had the whiting burger and shark + chips. Vibe was immaculate with the wooden fireplace.

The fish and halloumi burgers were fantastic! A small operation (in the off-season at least) so it was a bit of a wait. But worth it!

Worth the drive from American River just for the Calamari…. Always take visitors here, this time was no different! Great service, great food, great location. The Whiting burger is so tasty and the chips are delicious as they always have super fresh oil.

Very average coffee, started closing an hour before the time they had on the door. Also they do not know how to make an iced latte or an iced coffee!

We came here for a late lunch and had the vegan burger and the whiting burger. The vegan burger was delicious! The whiting burger would have been even better with a little more fish.

The best day I had on KI involved a walk on the beautiful beach at Vivonne Bay, fuelled by a whiting burger from the Vivonne Bay General Store. You might be thinking “hmmm, $19 is a lot for a takeaway fish burger” … open your mind and your wallet. It’s perfection on a Turkish roll. And the staff are lovely.

Great burgers (Whitting is great, but i prefer the Cajun chicken) at great prices, you will love this little place.

Legendary! Only shop in town, so really, they don't need to try hard to get people in the door. Yet the food was all delicious and clearly prepared with tremendous care. The 'famous KI whiting burger' earned its reputation. The halloumi burger was a huge hit. Wonderful fish and chips too.

We popped in here on our way to Seal Bay from Flinders Chase after reading the great reviews. So happy to report that we were not disappointed. The vegan burger was so fresh and tasty. Chicken burgers were a hit with the meat eaters and the fussy one loved her nuggets and chips. Highly recommend.

Great food! Nice staff and very reasonable prices. Area is in the middle of no where so it’s great to see a nice place to stop and grab a bite to eat. Would recommend the calamari and chips and the fish burger

Great place to eat lunch when exploring kangaroo island with my family. Love the whiting burger & chips.

This is a great pit stop if you’re heading to finders chase park or even checking the Vivienne bay beach out. The store has a bit of everything from cooked food to clothes to groceries, which can be handy given the lack of grocery/ convenience stores on the island. The burger are packed with flavour and made with lovely fresh ingredients, we were Absolutely shattered the whiting burger wasn’t on offer due to supply chain issues but this only means we will make this a reason to go back next time we’re around!

That's only place you can have food while you are travelling in Kangaroo Island. There are not many options though you won't disappoint with food that's my guarantee. If you are hungry then please don't hesitate to go here for sure great food.

HAD to visit to experience their famous fish burger that my daughter, who lives on KI raved about. It did not disappoint! Blissfully ate it on the pier

The burger was amazing but they close their coffee machine 1.5 hours before the store’s closing time. Also, the customer service wasn’t that great.

When I started planning our K. I trip, I knew I HAD to go to this place. Everything I read people were singing it's praises. And I see why. The fish burger was DELICIOUS. Fresh crispy fish, and the salad on the burger was fresh also. It even felt healthy eating it. The Turkish bread was soft and fluffy. Definitely pick up some lunch here if you're on the island.

Got the vegetarian burger without the extra cheese. The patty was spinach and ricotta. Fresh tasting fillings and really enjoyed the bread. Good outdoor seating area. Sells souvenir t-shirts and stubby holders. Basic selection of groceries, but not much in the way of fresh vegetables / fruit.

We had heard of the famous Whiting Burger available at the Vivonne Bay General Store & Bottle Shop established in 1962. However due to supply shortages, this item was not available. We tried their Hamburger, BLT Burger, Halloumi Burger, Hot Dog with the Lot and their Hot Chips. They were all good. The place was a bit crowded but the service was very efficient, and the staff members were very courteous. Tables and seats are available on the wooden deck beside the store, in front of the store, and across the street.
