The Old Mount Gambier Gaol

Unique old jail with old cells used as rooms that gives you real authentic feel of how it would have been for inmates. Run by James who is very friendly and helpful. I personally wouldnt stay for more then couple of nights due to basic ammenties which is to be expected.

Fantastic place to stay. Beautiful gardens, great facilities and lovely hosts. We will definitely be back!

A bit of a different place to stay, friendly staff (Erin), rooms have no aircon though, so can feel a bit stuffy

Have not stayed there as yet what I have read from customers saw about this grand old Goal it looks absolutely beautiful next time I go back that way I will certainly stay a few nights and meet the friendly owners to.

Would definitely go again in spring, summer or fall! Welcoming staff and a really cool place!
In the winter tho -
1 tiny wall heater that auto time offs after 1 hour in a room with drafty doors and authentic concrete walls and floor just didn't cut it for me in the winter. Made the experience just a bit too authentic for me personally.

A functional Gaol from 1856 to 1995. It is now part of the heritage walk in Mt Gambier. James has successfully transformed this place into a backpacker, events venue place for the past 7 years!

There are so many interesting things in Mt Gambier that people don’t know about! We came across this place by accident but was given only one night instead of 3 nights private room accommodation! Certainly sent our family circuits viral when we told them we were going to jail (note the spelling of Gaol).

Gaol theme was kept strong but rooms were comfy nonetheless, and it was cheap as hell. Definitely worth the overnight stay

Best backpackers in the limestone coast. The roons are the old gaol cells done up and cery comfortable. There is a communal kitchen/dining area and may historical facts of the gaol and the Mount Gambier area.

An amazing historical place. Very comfortable for a weekend, especially with a group of friends.

Excellent stay. Hosts were friendly and welcoming. Plenty of knowledge of the area and happy to help with any request. Facilities are well looked after. Cannot wait to come back.

Lovely rooms (6 prs), Free Wifi, good kitchen and bathrooms, nice place to have a look around. Short walk to shops and to blue lake. Staff gave me a map with all points of interest. I would come here again.
