The Old Mount Gambier Gaol

Such a wonderful place to stay. Mel and James are the friendliest hosts and their passion for their unique home/business shines through. The charm of this place is the knowledge that you are sleeping rooms and cells steeped in history and where else can you do that. It is close to most things in Mount Gambier and a short drive to the Blue Lake. We can't wait to return and spend more time at this awesome place.

Who would have thought staying at a jail was a good idea without being locked up?

This is a novel idea and the establishment created great little joint areas. Multiple kitchen and lounge rooms make it interesting.

The dorm rooms looked like a great hostel to stay, but the individual cells need some maintenance. I paid a full motel price for a shared bathroom and a jail cell. Zero comfort. Please renovate your rooms and I will reflect it in my rating.

Welcoming and friendly caretaker. Tidy room and super quiet. Stayed in women's cell area with self contained kitchen and shared chill out area.

Quirky place to stay centrally located in mount Gambier. Rooms could do with a bit of renovation/maintenance to make for a more pleasant stay

Service is friendly, informative and they are very accommodating. Scary looking from the outside, the goal has kept the cell like feel to it while still making you feel like a holiday. Lots of homely touches, a nice little get away spot for something a bit different:)

A great and unique experience! The service was amazing - super friendly and even suggested insider tips from a local's point of view. The accommodation itself was super comfortable, with many amenities to choose from. Highly recommended!

This place is AMAZING. Not only is it unique and tastefully renovated, but James the owner is an absolute legend. Just a really decent chap who wants you to have the very best time you possibly can. I honestly can't recommend this place highly enough. Great location and certainly a good holiday story.

Need more stars. This is a beautiful place. Comfortable, peaceful and very positive. It is an ideal place for a real rest. The owner is so friendly and outgoing, and has done a first class job of making this jail a positive place to be!

Had a great time, the engelbretch cave had been shut down prior to us arriving and without hesitation, Erin pin pointed locations for us to visit and see, she was also great help overall which made the stay better, I WOULD HIGHLY recommend to stay here, not to sure how it would be on peak times but id assume it would have only been better, sorry to waking up Mel at 2am aswell but i will stay the next time im in Mt Gambier and we will be quieter.

Always a good gig held there. You can purchase alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and great food.

Great place to stay in My Gambier. Steeped in history and now a wonderful family business. Was interesting to stay in the converted cells and imagine what it would have been like when it wasn't so cosy!

Travelled throughout Europe, Asia & Australia.yet the "Old Mount Gambier", would have too be the No1 place too stay if one is after a 'unique, historical experience'. Peaceful, spacious &. " the only gaol whereby one is more then happy too stay".

The hotel is clean and quiet, close to the city centre, with a large communal kitchen and a refrigerator. There is a social tennis court and swimming pool next to it. It is important to thank the staff here for the great help that my daughter is ill, thank you. We like it very much.
