Semaphore Fish & Chip Shop reviews
52We were looking forward to the best fish & chips we were greatly disappointed. I couldn’t eat my fish or chips. The batter on the fish was soggy & burnt and the chips - well I do better job at home with my home cooked chips. The $32 spent would have been better spent elsewhere. Please change your oil - it is old.
I was at the beach enjoying a lovely swim before noticing my stomach rumbling.
I quickly traversed over to Semaphore Fish & Chip Shop where I was greeted by friendly staff who served a delicious banquet of seafood and chips. I believe the new management is doing very well, and I'd definitely recommend eating here. Bravo Semaphore Fish & Chip Shop!
Got $12 worth of chips and they tasted stale and were all scrap pieces/crumbs. The fish was slimy and overly oily. Won’t be purchasing again.
Had Mother's Day fish, chips n potato fritters. Absolutely delicious. Hand made chips all wrapped in good old fashioned paper. Lovely service by friendly people. Congratulations ️. Well worth the drive from Mannum.
Fish was beautiful, chips were ok.
Dippy dog was wet and oily and potato cakes were still hard/not cooked. Couldn’t eat dippy dog or potato cakes.
We come for the potato fritters, which are usually great - crunchy, salty, oily - perfect
However, last visit there was a new staff member and our fritters were not great. Soggy, batter stuck to the paper and to other fritters, not enough salt or vinegar. Disappointing. I get that new staff have to be trained but we travel a long way for authentic potato fritters. Hope they're better next time
New owners I suspect.chips were oily soggy and gross customer service unfriendly bordering on rude and no eftpos.old owners were the best fish n chips around.goodwill will run out soon I imagine
We had steak sandwich? Bread was was not toasted properly and not cut hubby had a yiros no flavour at all hardly any salad we have been coming here 4 many years they have the best fish and chips ever
Honestly the very best fish and chips in Adelaide. A rare find but they actually make real chips that taste oh so good. Their other food is delicious also. My favourite is there snitzel packs that have the tastiest gravy ever, it's so good o could bathe in it lol. The steak sandwich/roll is so yummy and they definitely aren't skimpy with the steak and fillings. To be honest I have never been disappointed. My father's favourite food is fish and chips and he too won't go anywhere else, in fact we get food from there at least every fortnight. I highly recommend everything on their menu
Worst chips ever, you couldn't even call them chips more like fried bits of potato crumbs, fish was nice but a bit greasy.
Guy who took our order was very quiet but lovely. Older lady who gave us our order was a little rude but in a trying to be funny way.
Chips were nice and a decent amount for the price. Any other food such as fish, calamari, potato fritter were extremely greasy and batter not cooked through properly.
Overall ok, would give them another shot.
$30 for 3pieces of flathead.smallest pieces of fish I've ever eaten.
I won't be back.
Went in to order a Chicken cold pack. Asked what salads they had and was told very rude and abruptly “ No salads go to Foodland down the road “!
We turned around and took our business elsewhere. Other customers stopped us to say how rude they had been too. Won’t be going back!
This is our favorite fish and chips place! The hand cut chips are delicious and the butterfish is so yum. We've tried a few different ones in the west and we've found this one to be the best.
Great fast service, great food and not over priced. Choose your timing wisely, this place can get busy at peak dinner time.
6 months ago this place was pretty decent, but the quality of your lamb yiros has become absolutely terrible. The meat was mainly fat in both yiros, seafood sticks had no flavour, were overly salty and the chips are no longer freshly cut and fried. I'd avoid eating here as the owners just don't care anymore.
First time having food from here. Omg amazing, lovely lady was so helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Even gave us extra home made tartar sauce. Fantastic price and awesome quality. Will definitely go back again
Fish n chips shop the best chips n gravy my favourite
However in 22 arkaba a Nightmare will enter the night driving
Me and my family have been coming here for years. Over the year's we have spent thousands of dollars but not anymore.
After hearing about how you treat people with a medical condition which prevents them from wearing a mask.
We will spend our money elsewhere.
Shame on you absolutely disgusting
In short: If you can’t be bothered waiting an hour plus for your fish and chips at Sotos, go here and just ask that they fry your order for a bit longer. E.g “Can you make my order a bit crispier? ”
The longer review: I have a love hate relationship with this fish and chip shop. The (hand cut) chip quality is really variable. When it’s good, it’s worth a drive from the other side of town for a feed. When it’s bad…it’s really awful.
Lately they are tending to really undercook their chips. It has occurred to me that with the current food supply craziness, that both this shop and Sotos are now having to source different potatoes for their raw ingredients. Maybe this new type just doesn’t fry as well? In any case, as someone who goes to both shops, I have noticed that the chips are not their usual crispy fluffiness.
However, as someone who has been going to Semaphore for fish and chips for as long as I can remember, this place is one of my favourites of the area. The service and shop itself is basic but honest. The food is good enough. Thanks for feeding us over all these years
