Port Hughes Tavern reviews
60Extremely busy, being Boxing day night. Had to wait over an hour for our meals, however the food was very good at reasonable prices.
I’d read reviews about the ribs here so thought I best try them. Definitely lived up to expectations and the seafood was also great. Staff were very friendly and we then had a great experience meeting the locals in the sports bar section and seeing in the New Year!
We went to the port Hughes tavern tonight, the meals were great, most of the staff were very friendly and accommodating however one of the staff shoved my child away from the door of gaming and another took food that wasn’t finished with, overall I’m not too sure if I’ll be back, very sad considering it’s one of the only local pubs left serving meals
Congratulations to the chef, the kitchen staff and the waitresses
especially Minnie in particular, for such
amazing food and incredible service. Well done it was a pleasure to have a meal with you. Definitely be back
Wait time over 1 hr for meals.
Ribs were dry and topping was dry and over cooked.
Other patrons next to us requested there money back.
Meals were OK but not worth the money.
Hence the 1 star otherwise it would be a zero from us
Always good. Just make sure you book well in advance. It's really busy at the moment. Schnitzel night on Thursdays are the hit and oysters with Gin and chilli dressing are the bomb.
Easily the pick of the venues in the Moonta/port highs area.
Ate in Moonta the night before and here the night after, so disappointed that we didn't just come here twice.
Food was great, service was spot on also, table cleared constantly. No real wait at bar.
Spot on place for dinner etc. Mkae sure you book though as was a full house.
We stayed at Port Hughes about 6 months ago, we went to the tavern for dinner, 3 of our kids who had the chicken schnitzel ended up with food poisoning from the food, they all ate the same thing…. Then we stayed here again the last few days and decided to get some fish and chips for dinner…. Ended up with a massive hair in my fish! Very disappointing food, won’t ever go back again.
Ordered our meals, waited 1.5 hours for our meals. We have a 7 month old, staff member came to our table and made conversation only to laugh and say that we only been waiting an hour and 15 for our meals and that we still have at least another half hour! We had not complained about the meals taking so long because I understand it was busy. But she just came over to us and said this. Very frustrating when you have a young baby and get laughed at and told “ you’ve only been waiting 1 and a bit hours, you still have another half hour in you”. We changed our meal to takeaway so we could get home and put our son to bed before 10 pm!
We booked a large table in the beer garden on a Sunday. The tavern was very accommodating at first.but.
We waited forever for our meals.
2 adults had finished there meals (40mins) before the other 11 adults got there's
All of the kids meals came out very stagged which meant they were eating 1 at a time.
One of the meals got sent back as it was dry and overcooked and we waited an hour for the replacement. By that time we had all finished, she was the only one left at the table
I ordered creamy garlic sauce on the side and the jug was 1/3 full, when I asked for more I was told I had to pay for it as its made fresh on the grill, so I didn't finish my meal as I had no sauce and it went cold and dry.
The kids ordered dessert and again came out 1 at a time and the pavlova was forgotten about, so after half an hour the waitress went in and prepared herself.
When booking we were informed there was a band from 2pm. But the band started at 12.45. Not very enjoyable being so loud we could not have a conversation and was too much for the kids
Unfortunately now our friends will be very hesitant to dine with you. We have property in port hughes and knowing what's happened in moonta etc with pubs im all about staying local but what a very disappointing experience.
Great family run tavern meals are great and the view of sunset amazing at dinner id book a table
Great meals very friendly staff Great views

Staff are friendly, great atmosphere and food is divine! Always a fabulous meal every time we go here! Keep up the great work, thanks guys!
Hospitality was and always on point. Friendly staff always willing to help. Thanks to Gabby for your service today.
Nice outdoor seating area with good views of the jetty/beach. Meals were well price and great quality matched with well priced drinks, can't go wrong
I waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for my seafood basket order and the staff are not really friendly at all!
We were able to take our dogs to the beer garden which was great. The meals were good and the service for the early sitting was quick. When we went the next day at a later time we waited an hour for our meals. Book ahead as it's very popular.
Our favourite pub to visit when holidaying in the area! Amazing views, delicious meals with generous serving size, friendly staff, what more could you want? !? ! Our most recent visit was another fantastic meal enjoyed by all.
I love it here just a bit busy over holidays but still great and its so close to the beach beautiful place
Was doing alright till we got our food. Found hair STUCK in the burger, the steak was burned instead of well done. On top of that, there was no apology about the inconvenience.
