68 We bought a lot of stuff here prior to heading to spend our day in Flinders Chase National Park. The nice lady and gentleman cooked for us our favorite: bacon and egg sandwich, with the egg well-done. We really appreciate the egg being well done because we noticed that all the other cafes we had gone to, even if we request our eggs to be well-done, they still come out runny. So this little gesture is well appreciated.
Then we also bought their pies. And slices vanilla cake. Everything was yummy.
Friendly staff and owners.
Great food and selection for most needs.
Was a good place to stop for lunch
Great little place where time stands still and you can enjoy the best of K. I.genuine hospitality. Great, friendly staff and tasty meals.
The Cafe has a good range of tasty meal options to eat in or takeaway. The indoor cafe tables are set up in an area where the north and west facing windows allow the sun to stream in on a wintery afternoon.
The staff don't mind nattering with 'meandering mainlanders'; provide generous tourism advice (where to go, what to see, how long it takes to get wherever you are going, which sites are worth seeing, best photo spots etc) ; and make a decent coffee. If you visit more than once, don't be surprised when they remember you. This is true country-style hospitality.
If you are staying around this part of the island, the grocery shop has enough of the things that you need to see you through. (Although doesn't have the full range of some of the island's bigger supermarkets, which are further away from this part of the island.)
Also picked up a few quality fridge magnets as souvenirs while I was there.
Tip for visiting mainlanders:
Don't be in a rush, leave your haste at the door.you have now entered the zone of 'island-time'. Relax and enjoy!
A great find. Very friendly owners. Very tasty and well presented food, hot drinks at a reasonable cost. A real plus for a quiet town in the middle of Kangaroo Island. Had just left the Raptors Domain show (also excellent) and we were starving! We came across this charming, well stocked bakery, by a very happy accident, late in the afternoon. Cheers.
Typically country the staff were under pressure as alot of people waiting but got through the people waiting in the queue. Food good.
Good food, reasonably priced, and lots of variety. Garlic and onion in the gravy was slightly overpowering though.
Nice breakfast. We had some rolls made up to have later in the day which were fantastic and fresh. Really lovely service too.
Absolutely loved the fresh made pie's and sausage roll's, I just wanted to buy 2 of everything and of course the staff are friendly kangaroo islanders.
Wonderful service and was an excellent location to pick up a few supplies for the trip west. Not to mention the best chicken roll I've had in a long time! Thank you!
This place is beautiful and great for a feed. If you looking for a feed, snacks or a drink this a is a great place to stop with good service.
Jen served us extra hot coffee (as it was a cold winter morning). The bacon and egg roll was made with a delicious fresh roll. Stop by on your way to the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park.
Amazing food, great price and the staff were really lovely and helpful. Would highly recommend!
Had a roast beef roll for lunch and this is not an overstatement. Best roll I have ever eaten! The meat was so tender and so delicious! It felt so homely and I can not explain how much I enjoyed it. When I come back to KI this will be a favourite to return too!
Got to have a very good meal at reasonable price after a visit to KI wildlife park. I had requested for an itemised tax invoice for my claim about 2 weeks after my visit which was promptly responded to. Very happy with my experience.
Awesome coffee and cake! Drove from Kingscote to Western River, back to Kingscote. OMG the burnt area is horrific
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bought some veggies which were fresher than I would have thought considering this place is not near a city or built up area.
Edited after reply - I work in fruit and veg so I can recognise good quality and also the fact that's it's a somewhat remote location which makes it harder. So excellent job)
The most lovely welcome and customer service we have ever received! The owners were so welcoming and inviting, we just didnt want to leave. Great honest food served with a smile and a chat. Thank you for welcoming us into your beautiful little store. Winston thanks you for making him smile and giggle:) Can't wait to visit again when he is walking and talking and ordering his own lime milkshake. Thank you guys xx
Stopped by while over with the CFS and the lady there was exceptionally generous and made us feel extremely welcome.
Awesome local family business, super friendly, delicious and freshly made food with love. Prices very fair.
Milkshake was epic and our lunch wraps had the most veggies since we've landed in Australia.
Stumbled across this place while driving around KI, and feeling peckish. Grabbed a hot roast beef and gravy roll not expecting much and IT BLEW MY MIND. Not joking, this is a life changingly good roast beef roll - tender beef, delicious home made gravy, stuffed into a nice firm white bread roll and served warm. Simple, delicious. Get one and dream about it forever like I will.
