Monkey Nut Café - Barossa Valley reviews
34We had a brilliant time at Monkey Nut Cafe with our friends and our dogs. Prompt, friendly, efficient service with amazing food. We will be back!
I went to Monkey Nut Cafe recently for lunch & it was fantastic. Lovely venue with great view & excellent food. We did the wine flight as well. The service was outstanding.
Although I was with my girlfriend I also had my three year old grandson. The staff were so kind to him & could not have made him more welcome. I will be back & would thoroughly recommend it not only to adults but families as well.
Had lunch at Monkey Nut Cafe nearly 2 weeks ago. It was a rainy day so it was a wonderful way to enjoy ourselves inside.
The delicious platter we shared with wine was superb, along with the friendly and very efficient staff made this an unforgettable experience. If you haven’t been here before, please do so. You won’t be disappointed.

I'm a local and been meaning to try the Monkey Nut for ages, and am so glad I finally did! The staff were really friendly and engaging, the atmosphere was great, and the food was delicious! I will be going back for more salt and pepper squid.
March 2023 visit
Very unpleasant experience unfortunately.
This was a last minute change to a wine tour itinerary for lunch and tasting, and was honestly pretty bad.
Firstly, there was a seat missing from our group tables (which weren’t really next to each other), and it seemed like an inconvenience for this to be rectified. At first, the lady was just going to put a chair at the end (which would have been uncomfortable and squashed). I suggested an extra table at the end, to which she obliged but seemed a bit annoyed at.
Secondly, we asked if the chicken in one of the dishes was breast and was advised it was. With limited options, a lot of us opted for this. The chicken was not only clearly thigh (brown/pink meat), but also tough, fatty/grisly and basically inedible. Most of us left our meals hardly touched. When we told and showed the waitress, she advised the chef, who still insisted it was breast chicken…that was definitely concerning that they could still claim that when it clearly wasn’t true.
The waitress did offer those who spoke up replacements, which only one person accepted though, due to the most being put off. A couple of others opted for a dessert instead, while the rest just went outside for the remainder of our time there.
The fish and chips was described as ‘basically two fish fingers’ and looked & tasted like the packet ones from the supermarket - not nice at all for such a simple dish. Chips were mostly overcooked and also not nice. Again, another unpleasant meal which the other half of the group unfortunately opted for.
Lastly, the tasting wasn’t actually a tasting but a bottle of wine on each table (not what we were expecting).
This place really needs to lift its game, as the food is quite terrible. Hopefully they take in this critical yet honest feedback and improve.
We prebooked a table at the Monkey Nut Cafe, for a rare outing to the barossa to spoil ourselves. No table was set up when we arrived. They hurriedly carried a table out there for us, then without offering a menu or drink shut the door on us. Noting how busy it was inside (and understaffed) and after our initial treatment we left feeling very disappointed. Luckily we were able to get into a hotel nearby at the last minute where we were treated cordially and had a delicious meal.
We will be returning to the hotel again but not the Monkey Nut Cafe.
Following a beautiful proposal, next stop was Monkey Nut Cafe for a beautiful lunch celebration.
Fantastic service thank you for making this a wonderful celebration.
Vibrant atmosphere, delicious food and the wine flights are a fun way of sampling a few wines with your meal. Excellent service, very friendly. Definitely visit again:)
Quiet dog friendly place to unwind and enjoy a meal with a selection of wines and beers to choose from.
3.5 stars. Attached to the Kies cellar door. It was good to have a full cafe menu after a few diff tasting. Food was just alright and took a long long time to come. Service was fine.
Great experience with good friends
Food was very good in an excellent environment
Special mention to the exceptional service from Laura
Thanks we will be back
Such a lovely ambience, great service, delicious food and fantastic coffee. Serving sizes are extremely generous, and the prices are more than reasonable.
Truly a hidden gem in the Barossa.
Absolutely fabulous Cafe, Westside Glitzy Girls, Red Hat Ladies visited today food wine and service second to none we will be back.
The nicest staff I've ever come across, it felt like we were 'special people' from the moment we arrived, not to mention the awesome wine and food. Just go there you won't regret it.
Our first visit here, have passed by so many times & glad we finally called in.
Greeted with a smile as we entered. As we arrived after 3 on a Sunday, we were able to grab coffee & cake. Absolutely delicious sticky date pudding & apple crumble Perfect size serves without any going to waste.
Hubby popped next door to the wine tasting & once trying a few he grabbed a pack of Sparkling moscato & a port for $45 in a gift box. Excellent service, we highly recommend going.
We visited recently as a group of 10. Staff were exceptional and really made sure we were comfortable and looked after. Food was lovely and fair prices, wine was delicious. Highly recommended.
Wonderful staff, great atmosphere.we ordered the platter for 2 and was disappointed. Compared to the last time. This time there was lot's of dry biscuits and only two varieties of cold meat and & cheese not much fruit or antipasta filled up on biscuits the little damper rolls were very dry. We have had it before and was amazing so we were a little disappointed still nice not as much variety
Had a lovely lunch sitting outside under the gazebo. Staff friendly and helpful. Prices very reasonable.
Staff were friendly, food was nice with different offerings to what you'd usually find on a menu, clean, nice lawn area for kids to play with the balls and other outside games supplied.
An amazing lunch platter and wines to complement them and options for little people, really happy!
