Martindale Hall reviews
54 Amazing place, need to visit.
Very interesting part of South Australian history. And where they filmed " Picnic at Hanging Rock " many years ago.
Such a worthwhile thing to do whilst in the Clare Valley. Situated outside historic town of Mintaro, also definitely worth a visit. The manor house is in immaculate condition and furnished as it was in the day. Really enjoyed the experience
Bit expensive for what it is - was great to look around but freezing! Staff not very chatty or overly friendly but not rose either just there for the money and no chit chat. Disappointed the nearby
Maze wasn’t open as advertised on the web.
People working here are rude and very unwelcoming. It's a long way to drive to be treated with contempt. It's almost like visitors are an inconvenience. You can't take your hand bag in, as others have stated you are expected to leave it in the car or at the front door. Not sure why this is. There is no risk of anyone stealing anything or breaking anything. Most of it is roped off or a replica. It's a shame staff here have such a bad attitude to visitors, the property is good to see if you like historic houses. Staff here should take a leaf out of the book of Cummins House. Cunnins House staff are very welcoming.
Was really good. Not many people so we could take our time. Great day out here. Blue skies. Was quite cold in the Hall. Gillian had to go back to the car for her jacket.
Before you go is worth it to watch the movie "picnic at the hanging rock" the movie is an Australian classic and it was filmed here. The place is beautiful very well maintained and with a great story behind. 18 dollars to enter, plenty of parking. Opens at 10am
This place! Wow. The volunteers who maintain the statuesque Martindale Hall are wonderful!
The quality of restoration, their dedication, their obvious hard work.just wow I don't know how they keep it looking new.
And the ceilings. Devine! To the person or people who maintain them and paint the ceiling roses, personally I say thank you for your time so I can enjoy them.
The love, care and passion for Martindale Hall is to be recognised and commended.
And friendly, it was a pleasure to be able to chat and learn so much about its history.
We went on a weekend just after New Year's Day it was quiet and peaceful, we had the hall to ourselves! Which was a truly unique experience.if you want to avoid crowds, go then!
Their is carparking a very short walk to the hall, toilets and steps too the main entrance.
A must see.it was lovely to visit this beautiful homestead and walk back through yesterday.built in 1879 fof 30,000 pounds.in Georgian style 32 rooms stunning decorated and maintained as it was. Marindale Hall is located in Minato SA
I thought it was good but I think the people in charge should make more out the place and the ground
It was lovely.what we could see. The building is beautiful.
Disappointed that so many areas are not accessible to the public.
Not all rooms have information supplied.
Cost $18 p/a.no concession.
Interesting family story and philanthropy that makes it possible for us to see a bygone era.
The life of people Upstairs and Downstairs in South Australia.
Magnificent building, beautiful rooms and furnished on a grand scale. Great you can walk around the whole place and see it as it was. A must visit attraction $18 P/Adult.
An absolutely magnificent piece of history tucked away in our beautiful countryside. A must-visit place if you are visiting the Clare Valley and Mintaro area.
Mostly seems like a collection of stolen items from all over the world. The wood work sure reminds me of Indian artisans, now the art itself is lost in India. So great to see it preserved in great condition. The entry fee is expensive.
What a wonderful job Mick and Sharon are doing in keeping Martindale Hall open to the public. We spent a wonderful couple of hours there and treasured every moment.
$18 entry fee is too steep and not advertised enough. It has been a very grand building and some very interesting and beautiful features, however it is very dusty and not shown to its best advantage. Compared to Werribee Mansion in Victoria ($8 entry and many more rooms) it was disappointing.
Absolutely fantastic experience. I was blown away by the collection of old books in the library. Extremely well preserved and interesting piece of modern history. So glad I visited.
Wonderful place, amazing look into the past. Needs more government funding to undertake urgent repairs.
Absolutely worth going out of your way or off the main highway, just to visit here. Truly a magnificent home in its day. But it is being well maintained.
This is a fascinating part of Australia's history. Who but the very wealthy would have built such a house in a small country town?
