Flying Fish Restaurant & Cafe reviews
66 Great place to dine-in and enjoy the day
Previous feedbacks has been noticably resulted in improvenent however in our last visit my poached egg where over-boiled and its just a random hit&miss thing which Im sure with great focus and attention can be avoided as well.
Staff where mind and friendly and I would go back there again and again and again.
I will give a 4 star as much as I like to give 5.
They dont even try to cook something decent, and the chips is oil burned, every time. Just find somewhere else or bring food.
HORIBBLE SERVICE THEY FORGOT MY MEAL AND I WAITED HALF A HOUR SUCH FORGETFUL STAFF, I was standing in half a kilo of chips it was smelly and dirty DO NOT RECOMMEND
Read in a blog that this establishment houses one of the best places for fish and chips this side of SA, but got a little disappointed with the portion. Fish is decent and/or above averagely prepared but price is not reasonable for the size of the meal. Friend who came with me can't do alcohol so the beer battered option was already out, which was a shame because it was the highly recommended menu item. Was served promptly though. Seating has prime view of the beach as well so it's perfect for chilling after a dip.
Nice beach side fish and chip restaurant/ cafe. Pleasant staff. Reasonable prices. Choice of seating, either inside, under cover, outside or take away.
The food was quite nice, we had the seafood platter for 2. I was a little disappointed with the content. For the price there should have been more prawns and less cockles and chips; 2 oysters and 3 prawns each.and to top it off the whiting was dry. A bit disappointing considering how highly recommended this place was.
Spent 45 on lunch to then be told that paying customers couldn’t use the toilet “because of COVID”.
Great set up for the current COVID situation. You can scan the code and order online and then pick up at the window to avoid going inside. Then there are lots of nice spots nearby to eat outside.
It would be a 3.5 as it just doesn’t warrant a 4 in this case. We stopped for takeaway and the online order process is smooth and easy to use. Packaging of takeaway food is environmentally friendly. Two downsides. Fish could probably have spent a bit more time draining as it was really oily. The tartare sauce was tasteless. It tasted like cream mixed with mayo and did nothing to enhance the fish. Prices we’re reasonable. Just a shame about the taste.
Staff are absolutely lovely, however the prices are not appropriate for the portion size or quality of food. Judging by the frozen food storage on site I dont think the fish is fresh caught. There are public picnic benches directly underneath the restaurant with the same view you can utilise and save yourself some $$$
The bar here has a decent range of beers and wine, and it offers excellent views of horseshoe bay. Good service
All I will say is that there is no way that fish was fresh and bit frozen pre battered fish fingers. Was not nice and had an upset stomach for 2-3 days after. Won't be going there again
Living on the south coast we have visited the Flying Fish over a period of 12 years or so, but haven't been there for, I guess, 3+ years. We dined there last night and it has come a long way. Always ideally located in a picture perfect bay, the building has had a decent refurbish and is amongst the best presented eateries down here. Next came the menus - drinks and eats. Let's start with the drinks first (I did) - a range to suit most pallets and a sizable representation of local drops plus those more widely known and all at very reasonable prices. Next the food - great range on offer and, again, to suit all tastes - not just fish based but many alternatives. The 4 of use chose quite different entrees & mains and spent some time admiring the other choices - 10/10 for presentation & quality. To cap off all the good food was the service (which had been a bit of an issue for us in the past) it was outstanding - polite, efficient, knowledgeable. Couldn't ask for more. Well done FF!
Every online reference says open til 8pm. Walking there at 730 and think maybe book online. "kitchen closed". Try ringing, 2 numbers.both no answer. Less than impressed.
THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! EVER
We had takeaway for lunch and spent over $100.00
The flathead was frozen and the chips were cold
After feeding most of our lunch to the seagulls we decided to grab an ice cream
Apparently you need to wear a mask to order a takeaway ice-cream and the employee was not interested in taking our order - not even from the little side window where the takeaways are collected
I guess that this joint has no competition and can do what it want’s with customers
The employee was so rude and not accommodating at all
Definitely WILL not be going there again and WILL not be recommending this place
Astonishing views of the incredible bay at Port Elliot. Lean menu but excellent attention to detail on the plates offered. Reasonable service, recommend if you up for lunch or dinner in Port Elliot.
While the service was reasonably efficient and friendly this restaurant is not what it was years ago. My hand just about stuck to the restaurant door as I entered - clearly hadn't been cleaned for a long time- Servings weren't overly big & prices were a tad expensive for what you got. I'd have been better off going to The Elliot- better atmosphere and value for money.
Fabulous place to enjoy a meal overlooking the bay! Unbeatable view while enjoying fantastic fresh food. Elizabeth was serving us, she also took our booking and was very professional and delivered the highest standard of customer service. A must try if you haven’t been before.
Not what it once was. Bog standard fish & chips, with rather stingy serves (by SA standards). If you like paying more for the location, then this is your place. Port Elliot Beach is really quite picturesque.
Amazing service! Delicious and great food! 100 percent recommendable! Try the scallops with the crunchy wonton.
