Ekhidna Wines reviews
73We enjoyed the wine tasting. Had a wonderful chat with Matt, winemaker and owner. Liked their wines and purchased accordingly. Will be back in December with interstate visitors. 4.5 stars rating. Thanks Matt.
Fabulous food, beautiful outlook over the vines & warm & friendly staff. Delightful, thoroughly enjoyed!
Thanks to the team for a great afternoon, plenty of space for our group and we were very well looked after during our tastings!
Always a great experience at this winery. The wines are delicious and the cellar door staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Love being served by the wine maker.
Lunch for 4, okay busy day, Easter Sunday. But they took the booking, we ended up with a kind of uncovered picnic table with cheap and nasty plastic chairs and into the bargain we were practically at the walkway to the toilets. Entrees and bread was pretty good. The wines and beers were very good. The fish and the beef were also very good, but the chicken? 2 diners had chicken, the breast in particular was dry, was supposed to be a half chicken but somehow the breast was also halved and while a leg was there, the thigh was missing in action! Half of the triple cooked potatoes were crunchy dry and unpleasant.
Will not be in any hurry to return, the standard of cooking should be way above what was delivered today. I know, I should have spoken up but I believe you just have to grin and bear it, but it's gotten the better of me and I had to write this review.
My partner and I attended Ekhidna Wines as part of our helicopter flight package. We arrived early and even though the venue wasn’t open the team brought us inside, served us wine and were very accommodating. We had the 6 courses with the paired wines, and had the best time.
The service and the food was outstanding!
Matt is 100% the best person we have ever had for a wine tasting. Awesome wines and even better customer service. Will most definitely be coming back multiple times with all of our friends thanks so much again for the fantastic afternoon we had the greatest time and know our Aunty had the best time on her 40th birthday. Thanks again guys:)
Thank you so much for a fantastic lunch! All staff at Ekhidna were extremely friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about their food and wine. We not only had the best dining experience, but we also felt like we learnt something new and interesting about the McLaren Vale wine region. To conclude an already perfect lunch, Matt surprised us with a complimentary bottle of one of my favourite wines (as the staff knew we were there to celebrate my birthday!). Thank you so much for everything you did for us, we are surely looking to come back soon!
We were sooo looking forward to dining at Ekhidna after having an awesome tasting there on our last visit.
What a disappointment. Service average, food below average & expensive for what is was. Overall just an ordinary start to our McLaren Vale trip. Won’t be back unfortunately (too many other great options available with way better food & service)!
Just…. Everything I had hoped and wanted. Was dying to go here for years and on a random day managed to jag a tasting and full degustation.
Food, unbelievable. Wine, even better. Sparkling red and Viano elite tier.
Made my 2023, thank you.
1st time to winery. Enjoyed the 6 course chefs choice lunch. The meal sizes were extremely generous in size and selection served was excellent. Served in a timely manner between each course.
Chocolate brownie was one of the best I’ve had. Well done to the chef and his staff.
Enjoyed a sparkling Shiraz and rose wine, hubby had the beer.
Staff very friendly and welcoming.
5 stars highly recommended and you want walk away hungry or needing tea.
A welcoming and gorgeous venue with a fantastic view! Staff were friendly and helpful, the wine was delightful, food was great and coffee was lovely! While service was a little slow to begin with things were made good in the end. Absolutely loved the salmon, and while the rest of the food was great, the cauliflower main was a little to be desired. Would come again in a different season!
Went for lunch food was very good as with wines very nice and service and staff friendly could not fault the day would recommend highly thank you for the day
I’ll start of by commenting on the location. Dog friendly, great outdoor space good for groups and quite a nice view of the winery. Then came the wine tasting, very generous pouring and a good variety tailored to what you’d like to try based on your preferences. Matt did a fab job serving me, and he made it fun too. He even pulled out some Reds that aren’t on the list for me to try since I did enjoyed the few that I feedback him on throughout the tasting. Back to my table where the food came. The squid was excellent. Fresh and not chewy at all. However to our huge disappointment, hence why I’ve rated only 3 stars was the Market Beef, priced at $42. It was cold. Bloody (the didn’t even ask how we would like it done), too chewy and not tasty at all. The best part on the plate was the asparagus. For the price we paid, I didn’t think we would come back for the food. We left the place with a funny taste in our mouths, literally but at least we had a nice brownie in the end to sweetened our day.
Nice big new venue.there was a wedding later that day. I just had a beer flight, they have a few ales, a ginger beer and a half and half. The ginger is dangerously quaffable! Lovely staffer looked after me.
What has happened to this place? We were really looking forward to our lunch here.
Entree started with Duck Liver Pate. Pate 5 stars but served with broken cheap packet crackers…really? For $18 how about some sour dough or decent biscuits to go with?
Hubby had the squid. Tiny serve with a dollop of Mayo. Not a garnish to be seen on the plate.
Mains were lovely but seriously need to get their portion sizes right. We ordered the vegetable side which was $14. Tiny serve is an understatement. Side of potatoes ok but $14? I’m not sure you can justify that.
Definitely not like our pre covid experience.
The wine and service was good and the atmosphere is great. However the food is low par considering the price paid. The choices appear to be attempts at expensive food but the quality just doesn't deliver. Either increase the portion sizes or increase the quality of the ingredients and flavours.
Go for the wine, don't stay for the food.
Fantastic location, magic views over the vineyards, staff were great, prompt service and the food was great.
Nice place for a celebration.
Food was not worth the price. Small portions+ exorbitant price for what you get- barely any price tags on the menu so it’s a bit of pot luck with how much you pay. Lacked in flavour.
Good selection of drinks, friendly service + nice scenery though.
Had a larger booking for a bridal shower but was cancelled a week before due to a wedding being booked extremely poor customer service would not recommend unless you want to be left calling around trying to find somewhere else last minute.
