Having lived on the Gold Coast for 25 years, my standard for what a coffee shop and a tea room should be is ruthlessly high. That city is a constant revolving door of cafes, restaurants and high teas that sometimes never quite make it or was hit the mark because to stand out there, you’ve got to be amazing. From the moment I passed Cielo in its first two weeks of opening, it’s captured my attention in the best way possible and blown every other incredible food experience I’ve had back at home out of the water.

Set in soft, ambient lighting down the almost “blink and you’ll miss it” Adelaide Arcade, I first wandered in after being thoroughly disappointed with the rest of the daytime Adelaide food scene and met the owners who very clearly made every culinary delight with the utmost love. They explained their passion behind the humble little tea room, where the inspiration for each cake came from and the back story behind it and I fell in love. I settled on a coffee and one of their signature rolls, both of which to this day are among the best I’ve ever had (the coffee delightfully creamy and the roll created using the freshest ingredients, I could literally taste them in every mouthful) before going home with an entire box of pastries and cake slices. Since that day, I’ve been back at least twice a week and had the great pleasure of not just tasting every new menu item (none of which are overpriced, by the way - I’d invite Mr. “Balenciaga” guy to try dining at the Gold Coast and then see what he has to say about the prices here) but getting to know the lovely owners themselves and watch the tea room grow and become a favourite amongst the bustling city of Adelaide very quickly. I will always be a huge supporter of small business’s no matter what and Cielo is my number one favourite amongst the many that have tried to take that spot in South Australia (and that’s making an understatement).

Cielo is truly an amazing cafe. The decor is so dreamy. There’s fresh baked goods and delicious tea blends, all served by incredibly friendly staff. Every time I come in, there’s always something new for me to try. What is not to love, honestly?

A beautiful tea room located in the Adelaide Arcade of Rundle Mall. Cielo means sky or heaven in Spanish and it definitely looks like heaven. A pastry heaven. Had the most beautiful chiffon cake that was nice and soft even at the end of the day! It just needed a bit more sweetness to the marmalade/jam but other than that I enjoyed it. Enjoyed the tea from Fresia and Cassia. It was lovely and smooth. Good for the soul. Staff are very friendly and I can tell the pastries are made with love! It’s lovely to have a tea room like this in Adelaide. Can’t wait to go back ️ Instagram: @natsmyfoodielife

The patisserie and coffe are great, but I have found that the coffe cup had a bad smell. They told me that don't have the dishwasher.
