Apex Bakery reviews
29 Hello,
The Apex Bakery here in Tanunda was the first German shop I was in in 1997. The oldest bakery here in Tanunda, family run and founded by Germans. This bakery was highly recommended to me at the time because German was also spoken here. A very old shop that showed its age. Nice and rustic atmosphere, very nice staff and delicious cake. Here you could always have a little chat. I've often been here to drink coffee, pick up orders and just chat a little.
The clocks ran a little slower here, which I thought was great. No rush and always in a good mood.
Always very happy.
Last time we got pies was delicious this time was the worst pie we have ever had husband couldn't even way it mushroom has no flavour and gravy was yuk.
I have eaten at this bakery twice now.
The pies are very tasty, and that all depends on your choice.and there are many. With a combination of both mince meat and chunky meats both in the one pie.
I have had both a vanilla slice and a hazelnut ball thingy.oh yes very nice.yum.sugar overload.
The staff are very nice on both occasions we have been there.and on one occasion with a group of five poeple and ate inside at a nice table. A nice place to sit and get out of a bit and enjoy nice food.
You can also choose to sit out front and takeaway totally your choice.
Like most bakeries the have the usually breads, drinks, rolls, and of course a selection of yummy pies, pasties, and sausage rolls.
If your just passing through.there is 15 min parking out front or unlimited parking close by.
Lovely lady serving and beautiful baked goods at reasonable prices. Thank you for you kind nature. Loved the cheesymite scroll and my baby pretzel!
Best bakery so far! Staff was great and super friendly. Fresh baked bread and excelent coffee. Will happily go back!
Two ladies were behind the counter when my family of 7 went on a Wednesday morning. No greetings despite our initial greetings, no smiles either. Our presence seemed more a bother and an interruption to their morning conversation. Even after we paid up, no thanks. Avoid this bakery if your skin colour isn’t white.
Good pies! You can taste the chunks of meat inside. Kitchener buns are very nice too. The cream inside the bun is proper cream.
Great selection of savoury and sweet goods. Fantastic sausage rolls and decadent honeycomb donuts. They have the largest croissants I have ever seen! All reasonably priced too.
This bakery has been here for a long time. It's a safe choice if you need a quick bite such as a pie or pasty. I wouldn't say it's "outstanding" though.
Love this place, was recommended as a Barossa institution. Had a pepper chunky steak pie, then went back for a second. Returned the next day for another two! Yum
My husband and I had the most disappointing steak and mushroom pies today. The pastry was good but my pie had no steak and one trace of mushroom it was purely gel inside. My husband found one piece of steak only.
The worst meat pies we have ever had. (And we are experienced) pastry was ok the insides were 90% gloop. My steak and veg had one peice of meat and no veg. My husbands steak and mushroom was just cheap stringy gloop filling.we couldn’t even finish them!
Pastie I had was yummo and there bread speaks for itself, bloody beautiful. We come out from Adelaide just for it. Thanks guys.
True heritage with generations of bakers hands at the helm are what makes Apex Bakery bread truely remarkable.
And the pasties are stupendous!
Savoury scroll was very good. Meat pie was bad. Donuts were average. The selection in the place was half full at best. Not what you would expect mid morning on the weekend.
Definitely doesn't live up to reputation
Mum and I stumbled across this bakery by chance whilst strolling around Tanunda this morning and we couldn’t resist having morning tea at this cosy, family run bakery. We’re so good we did! The pasty and custard slice were delicious and we ended up buying more goodies to take home with us
Great specials, Lamb Shank & Red Wine Pie was awesome, and the Spinach and Feta Pastie got rave reviews from my wife. Friendly service to boot!
I love a good pasty, and there are none better than the Apex Bakery. I have tried pasties from all over SA including the one at Glenelg that wins all the competitions. Nothing compares to Apex for pasties. World class and yes, I drive up from Adelaide just to get one. Excellent quality filling with a pastry that melts in the mouth and is not loaded with oil. Well worth the trip to get one.
Beautiful pies and the most amazing donuts just love them. This bakery is full of tradition call in and try it out and follow their fb page it’s amazing some of the videos of making their produce is really interesting
This place is a disaster. Half the pies were unavailable at lunch time. The chicken pie we had was filled with frozen peas, and some sort of gelatinous medium that made both of us feel unwell. I thought the vanilla slice would deliver but that worsened the experience. So did my friend's kitchner bun. This is junk food disguised in an 'antique' bakery. Great, they use solid fuel for their oven. But they need to throw out the recipe book, and maybe give the shopfront some much needed love. 2 stars for the service, and antiquity.
