YMCA Bowen Hills has become a fantastic gym. I've been going here for several years - initially I was lured in with the cheap rates and have stayed because simply put, they have everything you need and you don't need to pay inordinate amounts of money to exercise. Although not overly large, the place isn't usually packed either so you don't have to wait in line normally to use the equipment. They offer classes if you're into that but have a wide range of weight and cardio equipment for solo or small group workout. My only gripe really is that the mats they offer in the free workout space are too squishy and slippery to do any real workouts on them! It would be nice if they upgraded and provided mats that had some level of grip on them so they don't slip and slide everywhere when you use them.

Very disappointed with my overall experience of this YMCA. Just join another gym, your experience will be far more pleasant. I've never sent my children here for gymnastics but judging by the performance their athletes I would stay well away.

Poor, rude management who lack empathy and who make bad decisions. Disgusted that they removed childcare and support for parents. They say they are there to support the community but the manager was clear that they really only care about $$. Obviously don't care about the YMCA published mission statement including 'Healthy communities based on relationships between people which are characterised by love, understanding, mutual respect and a sense of belonging'.

24 hr upgrade available (as of Aug 2020) with monthly membership. They have a trap bar.not many places do!

Really disliked the lock in contract. Change of circumstances and location made it so I'm unable to go but still having to pay. Will be making sure not to join anyone who has a contract like this in future. Which I hear most other gyms you can leave any time.

Awesome, clean gym with friendly staff. Been going here for 2 years now. Although, I wish the basketball court was prioritised for members rather than roller skating/futsal bookings.

I genuinely enjoyed my time at this gym, the equipment was top notch, and one of the staff (an ex pro powerlifter) really helped me with my technique in everything I was doing, not even as a pt, just as he was there walking about, or, even when he was working out himself. I learned a lot from him.
I had to leave the country due to a medical incident, an the staff were so SOOOOOO helpful with helping me cancel my subscription through email.
If I ever come back to Oz, I would definitely sign up with them again.
