Focus Martial Arts Brisbane

My son started training with Focus Martial Arts when he just turned 5. It's now 3 years later and he still looks forward to attending his class every week. The instructors are very experienced in teaching and getting the best out of the kids.

Had my kids bday party. We had an amazing experience. Jo Jo, Wilson and nova did a great job in managing the event.

We would like to see more benches for parents to sit. Also after the cake cutting, when kids starting to eat not enough space for the kids to place the plates to eat. Need to plan a space or open up the another room with few tables for the kids to have the cake and snacks.

The games were fantastic, when one of the focus employee tries to fall down and make a noise from the padding, it creates a panic with kids and also some kids were scared of the noise. Once or twice is fine not every time or the kids and parents can be warned about the noise so they are prepared for it. Understand that's the fun part but not all kids were prepared for it.

The Focus Martial Arts team are great! Since starting here in the last 2 months, I have learned how to be more self-motivated, self-disciplined and confident in my daily life. The classes and core values (Black Belt Attitude) they teach are a good way to keep fit physically and mentally, rather than just lifting weights at the gym.

We first discovered Focus Martial Arts via a kids birthday party and we thought we just have to give this place a go.
My son then tried a class and we’ve been hooked ever since. He was only 4 when he started a couple of years ago and the instructors really knew how to engage him bringing out the best in him every single
time. He has learnt so many new skills including confidence, social, fitness, and determination all while making new friends.
It wasn’t long before I jumped into adult classes too! Before starting with Focus I had very little strength but doing classes has been awesome for my fitness, strength, mobility and even strengthening mental well-being. The classes are challenging and fun and I’ve gained skills I can use in all areas of my life and love joining the team for a challenging workout and a good laugh.
One of our favorites is family class where my son and I can train together allowing us a way to strengthen our relationship. As an added bonus they have amazing events like parents date night where the kids have a fun night with friends and parents can have a kid-free date night. Need I say more? This place is awesome and we look forward to class every time.

Both my kids are enrolled in Focus Martial Arts and they have been for a year now. They always look forward to attending classes, they have learned a lots of important life skills. One of the best investments I made for my kids, I highly recommend it. Thank u especially the young teachers who are very passionate in teaching to the younger ones. Keep it up!

My 9 year old started this term and he is hooked! He had his birthday party which was amazing. They do date nights - thankyou! And the staff and coaches are wonderful and the community lovely. Absolutely love the way they empower young people. Wish we had of found it earlier.

My son is very looking forward to join Martial Arts every week.
Remember first 2 months when he just started, he needs to hold my hand through the whole lesson. Now he become more confident and can do it all by himself.
The instructors are very nice and friendly.

Great place for family's and people getting in to have fun and learn martial arts all staff are very welcoming, have been going here for 4 years now and I have learnt a lot of new skills, made friends and built a lot of confidence over these years.

Not recommended for neurologically divered kids, specially ASD/ADHD. My son got abused multiple times and feared trying martial arts ever again. Yet this place charged us more weeks as per their contract despite my son not being able to attend the lessons after their abuse. We ended up providing him therapy for months to recover from the damage FMA made. Austistic society deserve to experience the world without abuse.

Amazing company with fantastic instructors who makes the classes fun and engaging! My 5 year old loves his classes and has grown so much in confidence since he started 5 months ago.

Excellent place to learn self defence and meet lots of freindly people who are ready to support you when needed. Esther

I want to be clear for this review - it is solely based on the party my child recently attended and the marketing practices that immediately followed.

**This review is not in relation to the quality of martial arts instruction. **

Prior to attending the children’s party, I read the reviews and several warned of receiving marketing spam without consent or being informed.

Upon arriving, parents were asked to complete a “waiver” to indemnify our child from accident or injury during the activities. It also states that we agree that any images (photos/videos) may be used for promotional material without payment - which I accept. The waiver does not state that marketing material will be sent to our email/phone - which I do not agree to.

I received a couple of SMSs in quick succession that didn’t look like the usual marketing material nor did it have the option to unsubscribe (see other reviews that have said that they continue to be contacted even after requesting to not be contacted). I tried searching online for the mobile number (see screenshot) but did not return any results. I checked the website and the mobile phones published are different to the one received.

After receiving from confirmation from a couple of other parents that were equally confused, I found emails (same as the SMS sent at the same time) in my junk folder.

Word of advice: you need to change your marketing strategy as sending unsolicited promotional material like this irritates people more than it does to gain interest! Providing an option to tick and receive promotional material would yield a more positive rating and review.

The star that you earned is for the facility (equipment like jumping castle and air conditioning), which was comfortable in conducting a party and, judging by how happy most of the kids were, was also well run.

UPDATE: No option to unsubscribe and received another text 4 days later (02 April 2022).

We had a birthday party for our son here recently and him and his friends had a lovely time. The team were super helpful and very friendly to deal with. Thanks again!

We had both our kids attend the martial arts birthday party. It was well organised and the kids were well looked after. Cannot fault the party, it was fantastic.

The incessant marketing communications afterwards however leaves a lot to be desired.
Phone calls, texts and emails all within days of the party is just too much.

Look no further than Focus Martial Arts for a hassle free kid's birthrday party. My eldest just had his birthday party with his mates and everyone had a blast! Parents just had to sit back, enjoy a chit chat while the kids play and learn a few martial art moves. There was never a dull moment. The instructors were absolutely fantastic with the kids, the adults and took care of everything, YES EVERYTHING! Highly recommended!

Focus Martial arts is a family friendly M Arts School. A great place to teach your kids self discipline, leadership and confidence. Staff have always been friendly and professional!

After initially only intending to sign up our 2 children for fitness and self defense training, we were so impressed by the friendly and fun atmosphere of the Focus Martial Arts community that our entire family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) have now joined. From front reception to the instructors, we have found all staff to be helpful, enthusiastic, fun! If you are after a whole of family fitness activity that will push you, give you useful life skills, all whilst being fun, you really need to give this a go. All age groups are catered for, run at convenient times, with some lessons being specifically for family units. Finally it is worth mentioning, Focus also has an after school pickup service for some local schools, so your kids can get some Martial Arts training at their dojo after school.
Like everything, there is some minimum committment period involved when you join. Not many up front costs, insurance and your uniform. From there it is a monthly fee. We haven't experienced any nasty surprises.
Finally a big thank you to the Focus community for making our family feel so welcome.

The best birthday party ever. It does live up to the high expectations. We celebrated our twins birthday party here and everyone had a blast. The hosts handled everything from keeping kids entertained to making sure both kids and adults had their party food. I have never been so relaxed at my kids birthday party. Everything was taken care of with high degree of professionalism. Thank you.
