Daintree Village Hotel and General Store reviews
38I've holidayed in FNQ for some time ate in Port Douglas. In the crowded superficial pubs cafes and restaurantsThe staff work their butt's off for a not much more than a smile. Cued and cajoled for steak and chips seafood baskets mussels and prawns. Then someone mentioned daintree. Not the forest. The pub / general store. Forget the five star. White tabled dinner service. Expect nothing less than honest holessome pub grub that tastes great with a loving touch. Cold beer. Parmi and a pot for 17 bucks. T bones barra hamburgers. Book a table spend your 100 here and support the locals. Dont winge or complain. Remember where you are. YOUR ON HOLIDAYS. JUST ENJOY.
Food was nice, a decent serving of fish and chips for $25. I didn't think the salad was that great but my partner liked it. The biggest letdown was the service - the girl who served us was a total deadbeat, we got no greeting when we arrived, weren't even offered water to have on our table, nothing. We gave the place a go as it was the only option for lunch in the area on the day we were there. Wouldn't return.
Service was great! Being someone who struggles eating out due to food intolerances the ladies here were outstanding. It was really refreshing to see them cater for me to the best of their abilities. Plus the food was great! Best home made aioli!
Awesome food. We had salt and pepper squid and grilled fish. There's a bit of wait for the food but the salad was so freshly good and the squid was fantastic.
Bloody awesome pub, with awesome food and service. Definitely a place to stop if visiting Daintree Village.
Great pub spot, worth the drive. The lady that served us was really lovely and the food was excellent.
The Barramundi Burgers were delicious, the batter on the fish was excellent. The fried onion rings lovely and light (a huge serve for $8), and the pepperoni pizza was also very good. Nice to have all freshly cooked food and served with a smile.
Everything you would expect and more from a small hotel. Definitely recommend!
Really good fish and chips- super fresh!
Nice and relaxing atmosphere near the river and the staff were really friendly and attentive.
Would definitely dine again when in the Daintree
We stopped here for a late lunch after a Daintree River cruise and first impression was that this was a typical Queensland country pub with ceiling fans instead of aircon and wide verandahs. But we were all very pleasantly surprised and impressed with the quality of the meals and the staff could not have been more helpful, bringing out more plates and forks so we could share our meals. And my sister and I were very happy to get some rosella jam in the general store section. The ice cream freezer was very low on stock but we suspect that was due to the recent heavy rains blocking supply trucks from getting through (we noted in port Douglas the next day that the supermarket was also running out of various items).
A great lunch:)
A good and fresh chicken-bacon burger with a good battered barramundi. Friendly staff and a good terrace with view.
You know those reviews that are all about best chips I ever had? Finally I feel moved to write these were the best chips I ever had. Great spot.
Way off the beaten track.a magical part, set in the tropical far north of Queensland - Popular for Cassowary and crocodile spotting!
This little oasis is a one stop shop. Café, restaurant, pub, general store, post office, all in one!
A worthwhile day trip from Cairns.
The last pub before the ferry and located in the upper Daintree. The staff here ate super friendly. You have to bear in mind this pub is the most northern coastal pub before going into the capes. Decent food good prices. The beer is nice and cold.
This place is great! The nice lady (pictured accidentally at the rear) made us the best chocolate milkshakes in FNQ and served our carrot cake with a cute little bowl of cream and two spoons that we didn’t request. Very clean and comfy rest stop, reasonably priced, playing Janis Joplin in the background. If you’re going to Cape Trib for a day trip, call into the Daintree Village on your way back if staying nearby or in Port Douglas.
Nice cold drinks and food at reasonable prices. Well laid out with a modern look. Friendly staff also.
Great atmosphere, staff were kind and helpful. Food was really good. We will be going back again.
This review is for the general store component of the business. Very poorly stocked, basically one shelf of pasta and pasta sauce, one cooler. I had eagerly anticipated fresh bread or home baking like in most general stores, but no fresh food at all - odd given there is a restaurant onsite. Travellers should not count on replenishing supplies at this general store.
This is a friendly little pub and the only place to get a meal after dark in Daintree Village. We had lunch there once and dinner twice and it was generally awesome! You may read the service is slow but this is a sleepy town with few people (40 to be precise). If you arrive when a bus load of people do, be patient.why hurry? We chilled, watched people, ate great food at good prices (loved the Parma and pot night) and watched the night fade to black! This place is fantastic.just don’t expect what a sleepy town cannot provide!
Overall experience was very good, just some minor things that brought the experience down. Let's start with the positive. The staff were friendly, the food was worth the price and it had a very nice atmosphere. The problem was that to start off, at 2 in the afternoon they had run out of all bar snacks, chicken wings and nachos. It was a medium sized menu but these things made the choices harder, especially if you don't like fish. The second thing was that it looked like one woman was running the whole kitchen, which was the reason we had to wait around 40 minutes for our food. Before it even came out, we were asked 30 minutes after waiting to comfirm our order and even after that, the waiter wondered around the cafe for a good ten minutes trying to find us. Minor once off things, but hopefully things they can improve.
