The Darwin Military Museum reviews
50 Drive out to East Point to the Darwin military museum. It is a wonderful exhibit and history lesson.
The drive out to East Point is really scenic and there's a lot of places to stop and take photographs or enjoy a picnic lunch.
The museum is worth the visit. It is very educational and the exhibits and recreation of the bombing of Darwin from historic photographs into a film is incredible.
Highly recommend.
Really interesting museum, lots of informative info on the bombing of Darwin and a quite emotive interactive experience.
Plenty of displays also.
Easy to spend 2 to 3 hours here.
It's exaftly what you think.
Military paraphernalia.all under shaded trees so a nice wander round if you are into that.
Definitely worth the scooter and then walk. The museum will hold your interest for hours while learning of how Darwin was bombed and caught back.
Worth a visit the museum has an outdoor military equipment tour self guided with stories to read or app to down load for interactive voice over tour. Inside the museum was interesting memorabilia and a movie on the Darwin Bombing. It was comfortably air conditioned and had a cafe
Great experience my Father served during this time and the presentation of war memorabilia excellent the interaction of touch screen brought it home for my grandchildren so very appreciated of our the veterans through all their efforts. Deep respect for the indigenous Men and Women for their contribution.
Highly recommend visiting the Military Museum to get a better understanding of the importance of Darwin in WWII in the well put together exhibits both indoors and outdoors.
I would recommend at least an hour here or 2 hours if you want more time to read everything.
There's a little café to grab a cuppa. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Worth the $20/adult entry fee.
By far the best war museum I have ever visited. So much to see and su humbling. Allow at least 90 mind if not more if you are into war history.
If you are into the history of Darwin and the wartime experience then this is a must stop. Please be aware that they shut at 4 p.m. So you will need to give yourself at least 1/2 hours to properly see all you need to
Being a bit of a history buff, particularly from a military standpoint, I was firstly educated, then, as I discovered more of the hidden treasures around the greater complex, somewhat blown away, by the sheer complexity of war memorabilia on display. I immersed myself in the entire Darwin, wartime story for some hours, and left totally enlightened. Highly reccommended.
Love this area. WW2 gun emplacements and other buildings in very good condition. Museum out there was interesting last time I was here. Didn't go in today.
Very informative and well curated collection of memorabilia. Spent about 2 hours wandering around and followed the map app.
The history here was amazing, seeing the old machinery was cool.
If your interested in the history of war then highly recommend
A must see when in Darwin.especially for those who have served or have an interest in Australian military history.
An amazing place - takes hours to see everything. A paper map for those who can't download or read on phone screen would be better
A must visit during your travels to Darwin.
The museum contains a wealth of information of the lives and experiences during the time of conflict.
Being able to interact with the exhibits added an extra element as it really transported you back in time and gave a lot of perspective of how life was and the challenges faced.
A very interesting look in the history of war in Australia and more specifically in the Northern Territory
The indoor museum describes the 1942 bombing of Darwin in great detail, however the museum is much more than that. Various artillery and armoured equipment is on display in the beautiful tropical grounds, while bunkers provide information on different wars and tools of war.
The electromechanical artillery computers and range finding equipment was of particular interest.
The museum is on the site of the gun emplacements protecting Darwin and you can see the huge 9 inch gun mounted in one.
Even if you are not particularly interested in military matters there should be enough here to make it worth a visit. For military and history buffs it is a must see.
Fascinating collection of war time artefacts and first hand accounts of the people involved. There is a short movie recounting the WWII bombings of Darwin and an opportunity for visitors to tell their story and have it included in the collection. Definitely worth a visit.
Great museum with history of Darwin during the war time, individual stories to follow. Very realistic film to feel the effect of the bombing.
