Standley Chasm reviews
59 Great to visit Standley Chasm.
A unique rock formation.
Maybe a 15 minute (easy) walk from the carpark.
Indigenous Staff were really helpful.
Curiously they were all indigenous to New Zealand?
Friendly staff, excellent coffee & perfect Eggs Benedict. Definitely worth having breakfast at the cafe.
This week I've popped into Standley Chasm a couple of times this trip for the scenery (so beautiful and special) but also the stunning home-made food and friendly atmosphere.
I had the pleasure of chatting to the manager about the business and what they've achieved despite all the challenges of 2020! It's super inspiring. The food, look and feel of the place is top notch. I hope they get a tourism award this year, they certainly deserve one. Standley Chasm or iAngkerle Atwatye is one of the highlights of any trip to the Alice Springs area. Don't miss this magical spot. The walk into the chasm is shady and very pretty, the vast red cliffs and the sacred energy there make it unforgettable. So grateful that the Indigenous owners have it open to the public.
Took the Cycad tour with Kevin. He had a wealth of informational and useful knowledge and he was very easy to talk to. We had a lovely time with him and learned a lot. The scones we had during Kevin's informational talk after our walk were also lovely.
I'd been here about 6 yrs ago but didn't do the walk place had changed and in a good way without destroying the history of this place which is deep in both non indigenous and indigenous stories
Never been on the walks before and what and eye opener, the power and mystery of mother nature is ever present and places us fair and squarely in the time frame of this awesome planet just a grain of sand in the scheme of things There's a message there if you want to find it words can't describe this it's a feeling well worth the experience
Short walk for 12 dollars per person.
Nice chasm but not spectacular, would prefer if the walk continued after the chasm.
Worthy of a look. Nice around midday watch the sunlight change the colour of the walls as it moves overhead. Nice food and coffee from the canteen.
Love this place, best at midday or early morning. Its a nice easy walk into the chasm the wild life is all around you.you just need to keep a close eye open.the cost hasn't changed much over the years but the park is well kept.
A bit expensive for what you get ($12 entry while the rest of the area is free) but the photos you can get in the chasm are pretty epic. The cafe is good for a cold drink on a hot day. It's about a 15 minute walk in.
Awesome place to explore! We also thoroughly enjoyed the food at the cafe & the lovely service. Highly recommended:)
Awesome place. Get there around midday for best lighting in the Chasm with the sun directly overhead.
Best time of day to go is when the sun is at its highest as this lights up the chasm. Still worth going at any other time but the photos of the chasm won’t be as spectacular.
A beautiful place. 40 minutes drive from town and then a short (maybe 15 minute) walk into the Chasm. The walk to the Chasm is also beautiful with lots of greenery (for the desert!) and native birds. There is also a little shop for souvenirs and a Cafe with great burgers and the best kids milkshakes.
Beautiful powerful place, if you go in the morning you will be alone there and even the flies are not bad, local cafe opens 8 and the staff is super kind, coffee is handy after days in desert, toilet sparkling clean and the whole place atmosphere is just so tranquil and calming!
Fee $12 per person, but totally worth it!
Friendly people in the cafe with nice food options & coffee! Flushing toilets & a couple of showers to wash off. Recommend walking up trail section 3 path to see the view south & then walk back down to see Standley Chasm:)
A great surprise, clean and neat. Very good service and an adequate menu. The walk is a must do.
Loved it! The walk to the Chasm is really enjoyable, spotting wildflowers along the way. We were lucky to experience it on a quiet day right as the sun was passing over the gorge - very serene. Well-maintained spot with clean toilets (well worth the $12 entrance fee).
Drive out there, to then find there is a fee. $30 family fee. Didn't bother on principal! Drive to the next place. Refuse to pay to walk.
Rip off.
Beautiful place to see. Definitely worth it! We loved seeing the chasm and the explanation panels were clear and very helpful. We also wakes up to the lookout point and that was gorgeous too. When we were at the chasm, the trees were all black, which is another good thing to witness as cultural burning is the natural way to encourage vegetation growth. Please ignore all the people complaining about the entry fee. If the Australian government would subsidise aboriginal land, then they wouldn’t have to charge a fee. As it is, the aboriginals receive no funding whatsoever and so the entry fee pays for all the upkeep. The place was immaculate, the cafe was great, the toilets so clean. I’d pay them more any day for the great work they do at keeping that place beautiful.
