KOA & Malak Caravan Park reviews
32Avoid this place at all circumstances - checked in 22/11 and given access code for gate after 6pm, tried to enter at 9.30pm and access code didn’t work, no emergency number available at gate, had to spend the night sleeping in car elsewhere! Next day tried to contact but office not open for another 2 days! Phoned to report problem and given another access code which who knows if will work tonight! Asked about refund for the night I spent on street, advised to speak to office which doesn’t open for another 2 days! Avoid avoid avoid!
They take payment for powered site as soon as booking is made. We stayed twice for a night on seperate occasions two weeks apart. The first stay Arrived at 550pm and office was already shut even though they said they would be there until 6. Receptionist blunt and rude. They don’t supply any toilet paper for ensuite. They also take $100 as a “security payment” and we didn’t get it back for a week, Despite only having a powered caravan site for one night.
Can understand hotels doing this but a powered site? What can be damaged when using our own van and the accomodation is already paid for?
Positives are the location, close to airport and short drive to Darwin, and the ensuite even if there is no loo paper.
Great place to stay. Wonderful to have your own ensuite. Pool beautiful. Felt very safe. Thankyou.
Newly renovated with still more to come in the months ahead! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at KOA in Darwin, especially the private bathroom for each site. Good location for our purpose which was to be near the airport. We'll definitely come back if we visit Darwin again.
No bbq. No eating area
. No.public power points
Maybe offer a discount till renovations are finished
I've read a lot of reviews, and a lot weren't good, so I was surprised when we arrived to see so much work being done on improvements, our en-suit was freshly painted, couldn't have been happier, the pool is stunning, all new and feels tropical.
Loved how every site has their own bathroom, look forward to our next stay, thankyou Koa, the improvement works are wonderful. Pricing is on par to all parks here in Darwin.
We stay here for 5 day. Nice caravan park thay are doing it up. Don't have a camp kitchen yet but have a great new pool. Love that you have your own toilet and shower
OK so let's just understand that the place is being renovated and they are doing a great job, new Besser block front wall that reduces road noise and a fantastic new pool, all a work in progress.
Private, well you share one with a neighbour (you have your own toilet and shower they have the same) ensuites, which is great.
But if you want a hot shower after unusual for Darwin cloudy days forget it as the solar hot water has no electric backup.
But if you are planning an extended stay the price is negotiatable but no hot water for 65 a night is just a tad steep.
Most extended stay people look after their plot and are super friendly.
Would I stay here again, sure would just hope the sun stays out. Also I would ask for a better price.
Terrible caravanpark with receptionist, unfriendly, even rude. They set different price to customers even dishonest, rude when talking the price to you. Amenities very old. Even close to the city but you must stay away from this park. I stayed more than hundred caravanpark around Australia but aren't any like this one.
Not a good experience here, no shade park old run down, no camp kitchen. Ensuite needs updating for the money not worth it. We moved to a better park same price better facilities by far.
Don't understand why this park has such a low rating. We give it 5 stars. Have been here for 3 weeks and very much enjoyed it Close to shops, golf course, closest park to CBD. Green (which was the exception to all other parks) grassy areas, very spacious spits, all with a concrete slab, no dust, and our own ensuite, which was fantastic. All ensuites on the park are done up, ours was a bit old, but clean and very spacious.
Stayed there in July and found it great. Very quiet and spaceous grassy sites. Ensuites were a bit run down but we hardly used them as we're self contained. Weekly rate was reasonable. New owner and staff were very helpful and flexible during a lockdown. Would go back.
Very happy with our own ensuite shower and toilet Van was in a shady spot
We were told the park has applied for a housing village waiting for approval
This was the Malak Park
Have been coming here to Malak caravan park for the dry season from down south for 20 years. It is spacious central & having your own ensuite irreplaceable. In that time we have also attracted many friends to call in on shorter stays. Please don’t let the new owner close this facility as it can never be replaced in its current form. There are not enough caravan parks in Darwin now. We hope to keep on coming to this park.
Old but it’s nice to have your own ensuite and kitchen. Unfortunately I caught a young aboriginal boy going through my fridge stealing beer
While the park was central service was non existent. I stood waiting to be acknowledged for 5mins. Not impressed the so called onsuites were clean but so rundown. On booking nobody explained that you had to take the second driveway to the Malak part of the park as Koa has no recepition. After arriving after a long drive and being missed directed and ignored I wouldnt stay again
Facilities are rundown, and there doesn’t seem to be any attempts to maintain them. We were moved because our site didn’t have hot water, however the second site didn’t either. We mentioned we had a swag as well as our campervan and the office staff confirmed that was OK, but then we were berated by the ground staff for potentially damaging the lawn.
They didn't allow us to stay here because we had a tent. This is the first time that I heard such thing. We always stay in caravanparks and it is never a problem. We were able to visit our friends at night and then we saw people with swags and rooftoptents. So I think that is a bit weird. That is why I give this caravanpark a bad rating.
Well spread out park with the sites having ensuite shower and toilet which is an excellent idea
Still under going renovations.
Every site has an onsuite, clean and reasonable prices.
Considering the fee - best around here.
