Gorge View Bush Retreat: Katherine Gorge Northern Territory reviews
27 Great Location, not far to pop into Katherine and not far to Nitmiluk Gorge.
Beautiful views of sunrise and sunset from their hill top deck!
Glamping tents were awesome! Furnished beautifully and even had aircon! Toilet facilities were new and had every thing you need!
10/10 would recommend!
Thank you so much Kate! We had a great stay in one of the safari tents. We got to watch the sunset from the viewing deck and her recommendation to go and watch sunrise over the gorge was the perfect way to see it. A great place. Bathrooms beautiful and clean, camp kitchen has everything you need.
The bush retreat was a great place to stay and was definitely a great retreat. The owners are very welcoming and accommodating we were easily able to stay on a couple of extra nights, the sunset deck is spectacular and we were even lucky enough to have an amazing local play the didgeridoo for us as the sun set. Everything was very clean
Genuinely the most attentive owners / hosts (Kate and Carney) I have come across. They went out of their way to sort pizzas, drinks and a camp fire for us. Great accommodation and the viewing deck was lovely at sundown - we had a fascinating chat too. Showers and toilets were really clean too. We were only there for one night but it absolutely stands out as the best fun and service on our month long trip with much more exclusive accommodation. Our teenage kids loved it too. I thoroughly recommend this beautiful spot.
Our family did the sunset pizza’s and it was amazing. Such a great little spot with an even better view!
Kate and Carney are really great hosts, very accommodating for us as we were also celebrating a birthday. Thank you so much, we will be back ️
A wonderful experience. Great hosts, sunset viewing with Didgeridoo music and historical overview. Many thanks Kate and family. We will be back
Glamping tent full of big black ants, had to drive to Katherine Woolworths just to get bug spray. Tent full of dust balls, they need a good top to bottom vacuum. So called pools full of algae and stank. Bathroom facilities adequate complimenting the camping experience, unfortunately toilet blocks very easily. Overall OK but not great.
The campsite was nice and quiet with all the facilities well located and extremely clean. Kath our host made us welcome despite a late arrival with cold water and a bottle of wine.
Amazing place and wonderful hospitality from Kate and Carney. Beautiful tent, loved the fire pit! Clean facilities too. Kate does a morning sunrise walk up to the top of Nitmiluk Gorge which I strongly recommend.
The ambiance was perfect. A serene location and great facilities. The hosts are very friendly, welcoming and entertaining!
We spent two nights in an unpowered glamping tent. The bed was comfortable and the old furniture and rugs gave a real homely feel. With the nights being cool, it was nice to light the fire in
the pits provided. The camp kitchen and toilets were basic but very
clean. Another highlight was the walk up to the hill where you will find a new decked platform to watch a sensational sunset. We had a great time. Thanks Kate for a warm welcome.
Had a great time in the Clamping Tent. Very cosy and nice. Amazing sunsets and super friendly, helpful staff.
Excellent service from friendly and understanding staff. Stayed a night at the glamping tent, , and one night in the powered safari tent. Highly recommend this place and would love to stay here again ️
Booked an unpowered site, expecting a “private campsite”, “wide open spaces” and “a spectacular sunset viewing hill” as quoted on the website. Unfortunately we were placed within 20m of two other groups, on what seems to be meant for a larger tour group site. The sunset viewing hill was lovely though, however failed to mention it was a two minute drive + two minute hike up a hill elsewhere on the property.
I had a wonderful 2 night stay eat the Gorge View Bush Retreat. Kate is the best host ever. She'll go out off her way to make sure you have everything you need. And if she can she will join in with whatever you are up to. I wanted to see the sunrise from a nice vantage point so the next day at 6am she was ready to show us where to go and join in the hike. The beds in the tent where soo comfortable, almost better than mine:)
Had a lovely phone call the morning of check in to a lady who was just fabulous. When we arrived Carney/Carnie/Karnie (however you spell it) gave us a good laugh and a great spot for the night. Abolition blocks were great and there seemed to be a great atmosphere around the camp despite us keeping to ourselves. Thanks!
Absolutely loved our time at this glamping site. Highly recommend it. Tents are fabulous, beautifully stylish and comfortable. Bathrooms and kitchen facilities are spotlessly clean. There are plunge pools, a magnificent viewing deck on the hilltop -perfect for a sundowner. Staff are polite and knowledgeable. All this only 10 minutes from Nitmiluk. Cant wait to return next year.
Booked ahead paid for power, and informed we had dogs. Advised not to come untill abetween4 pm and 6pm as very hot. Met by friendly person who showed us to an unpowered site.
On reminding her of our need for power showed us to a very small cluttered area with other caravan and a dog off lead wandering around, she did not think it would work, we agreed and refu d given, glad we didn't arrive after 4 pm as suggested and they show say that not all pets are allowed on their website and ask more questions on booking seemed a little disorganised to us.
We recently spent a night in one of the two glamping tents. We got there around 4pm at the owner's (Kate) suggestion as she said the tents get hot during the day. The weather really started to cool down around sunset. We headed up to the sunset deck to watch the sun set. It was lovely sitting around and chatting with the other guests and the owner Kate.
The tent was non powered but there was a portable lamp that provided ample amount of light and 2 small but powerful fans. We just pointed the fans at ourselves in bed and with the temp going down to about 20 overnight, it was perfect. Bed is a double I think but myself, my 1.5yo and my husband slept comfortably. The tent was spacious enough for my toddler to wander around it and could easily fit a portacot or another single blow up mattress if you brought one. Kate had also provided us with firewood which was lovely.
It really was such a lovely experience and worth the drive from Darwin even though it was just for one night. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Thanks for your hospitality, Kate. You were so nice and incredibly friendly. We will definitely be back!
This was one of our favourite spots on our road trip from Darwin. A beautiful spot close to Nitmiluk visitor centre, we ended up staying another night! The most amazing sunset view as well. Kate was so lovely, offered us a homemade pizza and we attended a meditation on sunset hill. Highly recommend staying here when visiting Katherine.
