Made a renovation personally, arrived on Saturday night to hear that our booking was not in their records, extremely disappointed. They did not attempt to correct the error. Obviously customer satisfaction is not their priority.: (

Had a delicious meal, fabulous position outside looking at the sunset and really well looked after with service from the delightful Rakshya! Will definitely be back

Underwhelmed, over-priced, very disappointed.
We ordered the platter for 4 people. There wasn't much food on the board. Two small potatoes. Small pieces of steak and gristle. The chorizo wasn't chorizo. It was more like a frankfurter. The rib sauce tasted like it had too much Vegemite in it.

Tiny portions of sauce. The bearnaise sauce had more of a texture of mousse and tasted odd.

We also ordered some sides, these were very average. Coleslaw tasted like it had horseradish in it, not a great combination.

We complained to our waitress but she didn't say much. Also complained upon paying the bill. They knocked off one of the sides. And we also had to pay an additional 15% surcharge due to the public holiday.

We all left still feeling hungry and ripped off. It was very sad and disappointing as it was supposed to be a special family meal out.

The reservationist barely made eye contact with us when we arrived & the only sombre exchange we got was “we’ll need the table back in 2 hours time”. Perfectly understandable it just came across a bit blunt and rude. Entrees were absolutely delicious, mains a bit average. Steak wasn’t cooked properly in some parts but the polite, helpful waitress made some of the experience less disappointing. Not sure it was worth a $300 dinner but hoping we just caught them on an off day because usually it’s one of the best venues in Darwin to dine at.

All the trappings of a sophisticated fine dining restaurant with prices to match. The reality.all the noise of a shopping centre food court. Food pretty average. Staff couldn't understand what we were saying. Expensively disappointing

Very disappointing, poor and slow service (had get up and find someone to take our order, then over a 40 minute wait for the food) and average food. Medium rare steak was at least medium well if not well done and Bordetto of seafood served without the bread. Would not recommend.

Good service and romantic setting, nice steak and beautiful scallops but my red wine jus was tasteless just salty and my friend’s bearnaise sauce was too thick and not enough for the size of his steak. No soy milk or skim milk available for coffee. No decaf available for desert either which was quite surprising.

Dirty plastic chairs, uncoordinated service and steaks I could have cooked better myself at home.

Ordered the sirloin medium rare. It came out blue and cold in the middle. Notified the waiter and and I was asked if I don’t mind waiting, this was fine. 2 minutes later the same steak came back out but it was warmer (obviously microwaved) still not cooked correctly and had lost its tenderness, again notified waiter. Same thing again, do you mind waiting? No of course not. Third time lucky…. Same steak came out but it was the right colour this time but had lost all its flavour. They offered the meal free. This restaurant offers high class beef and I was really looking forward to a good meal but was bitterly disappointed this time around.

Good food but not quite 5 star vs other restaurants. Friendly staff, nice location. Food came out a little fast however.

Its touted as one of the best restaurants in Darwin for a bloody good reason, great service, lovely decor and atmosphere and the food, well its not cheap but worth every penny, melt in your mouth steaks, the beef short rib basically dissolved on your tongue and the lamb cutlets were amazing as well, we will definitely make it at least a monthly treat, a must visit for serious foodies

Service was great, food was delicious and the setting is really nice. The pork belly melted in your mouth and beef cheek spring rolls had such good flavour
Can't wait to go back. Only thing I could pick on would be that carpet would be better for noise reduction but it didn't ruin our experience.

Absolutely love this place, ️ the heritage building this little gem sit within. The "Food" was floor-less, 150g eye fillet cooked exactly as ordered, service was fantastic as usual. I will be a continuing customer anytime well done Char Restaurant

I had the catch of the day, come with fish, mussels, lobster croquet and pippies.
Ate at various restaurants in Darwin, this one was the best rated at the best food I’ve had

I'm giving it 5 stars. I'm from Melbourne and I love going out to dinner especially for steak. I want to wade in on a bone of contention about paying a lot for a steak and then being slugged for extras. Firstly, I think part of what you are doing is renting that space, that lovely setting with the romantic lighting and that wonderful spot with possibly the best sunset in the world. That was priceless. Second, It actually isn't that expensive. The steak was of such a high quality, we had the wagu sharing board @ $70 for 2 people. $35 each. Ive paid that in pubs. It was delightful. The sauces are $4.and you get one free. I mean come on. The sides are incredible. We had a salad with blue cheese dressing and bacon. I don't really eat salad but I just couldn't stop eating this. Lastly, they could easily give you the sides and the sauces and then really slug you for the wine but they don't. The mark up on the wine is more than reasonable. I was warned against char by a local (who had Never actually eaten there!) But I don't think she saw the big picture. Its a wonderful high end experience with great service. We rolled out of the restaurant full and sated and happy.

Always so delicious! Staff were wonderful! Food was amazing! We treat ourselves here once a year for our anniversary and each time we go we wish we could go more! SO YUM!

What can I say! Could not fault ANY of the food - Seasonal greens was crunchy and very well seasoned. Meat from the meat platter was cooked to perfection (MR) and the grilled lemons and potatoe medallions just complimented the dish. The sauce was out if this world - fresh and full of flavour.

I mean it when I say this! BEAUTIFUL FOOD and AWESOME friendly staff! Oh and the beers goes well to

It has been over a year since we ate here but feel it was still worth it, especially as a group. The owner was lovely, one staff had a bit of a chip on her shoulder but couldn't wreck the amazing night we had with good laughs, amazing flavours and lovely cocktails. I looked forward to the next meal here with mates.

Great location but, incredibly slow service even though the restaurant was less than a quarter of its capacity, low value quality/prices, I've been in three different times since last year, but still same. Pretty sure I will not return for the moment.

Disappointing. Char was recommended as the best fine dining in Darwin. The service was great, but not fine dining. Mains were good, but starters were average at best. Garlic bread was terrible. Overall the only fine dining element was the price, and hence didn't represent value for money.
