Char Restaurant reviews
88Great food and friendly staff plenty of them ready to serve you, Steak was great cook to my liking medium rare.only bad thing is food is on the pricey side and portion little small for the money. $58 for the cheapest steak with a baby potato and gravy.
Char has gone backwards unfortunately.
Staff should advise the best way of cooking certain cuts of steak to maximise enjoyment.
Semifreddo only tasted of white chocolate. Any blueberry taste was lost amongst a bland sweetness.
French fries were served as plain chips and not even hot and fresh.
A bit disappointing.
Please come back with some more passion if planning to re-open next season.
The oysters smelt fishy and were discoloured - definitely weren’t fresh despite waitress saying they were.
Our favourite place for a meal when in Darwin. Cannot fault the food or service on any way.
I can not understand how this restaurant wins awards. The oysters kilpatric were horribly over sauce with BBQ sauce and ham, I could have made the same at home with a bottle of heinz bbq sauce! Over priced meals that are lack luster in taste and presentation. The mushroom Risotto was salty.
I won't be wasting money there again.
Over rated & over priced - mediocre if I'm completely honest. $90 wagu is ridiculous i didnt even finish it! I cook it better at home and I'm not just saying that either.i think its more about location than quality here.if you're a local though you'd swear by this place which is why I wanted to try it again (2nd time) and still a no for me.to be fair though darwins take on high quality food as a whole is really below average anyway! Wines were great, starters were good and dessert was below average, this too wasn't finished.
This is the type of restaurant where there is no salt, or pepper on the table. Where you can describe a wine and they make the perfect recommendation. The service is friendly and very good. The food is exquisite. The person who pours the wine has pride enough to change your glass because of an invisible watermark. They take pride in what they offer and how they serve it. Expensive but well worth the price.

I would have given this place 5 stars if not for the price of the meal. The food is good
and service was pretty decent too with the waitresses being polite & helpful. I ordered the Steak tartare for entree ($30) and the Steak Tasting Board ($90). Sauces cost extra. The steak doneness was as per my request and the meal was very filling. The restaurant ambience is quite good too.
I just felt that the meal was a bit overpriced. I’ve been to better steakhouses where I have paid less. Also during my stay at Darwin, I visited a couple of other fine-dining-ish restaurants where I felt the food quality & price being aligned.
I’d recommend this place to people visiting Darwin but would probably advice them to order a non-steak main course.
Absolutely blown away by the food and service of this wonderful restaurant. Very special indeed.
Entrees were nice.
I ordered a medium rare steak and it came out blu (half alive)
Wasn’t what I expected
Location was perfect. Service was perfect. Facilities were perfect too. We were not overly hungry as we'd had a big lunch. So we ordered a starter to share and an entree to share. We also purchased a bottle of wine as to bring our own we would have been charged a $40 corkage fee.
We ordered the Char's cheesy 'bacon' garlic bread. It was revolting. We asked the waitress to take it away as the sight of it after tasting is was making us feel ill. Highly recommend NOT ordering it. We were not charged for it and the waitress told us that there had been a few complaints about it from other customers. It's not garlic bread. It was slop pored over bread.
We were then served the Charcuterie Board for 2 for $48. Extremely disappointed with this dish too. The bread sticks had a nice snap but tasted flavourless with a texture of dry sawdust.
The Njuja spreadable salami was revolting. It came in the form of round rolled up balls. Hot olives (never had hot olives before anywhere).
All up we were both really disappointed for the price we paid. Sorry, as everything else was divine.
First off, beautiful location especially when the sun is setting. Great atmosphere in the restaurant and friendly staff.
My steak was very nice great flavour and cooked perfectly, the cheesy bread to start was also very nice.
My partners steak however lacked flavour and he didn’t think too highly of, but he liked mine so 4 stars maybe just needed to order a different steak
Staff outstanding, food excellent
Highly recommend.
Some people may say expensive
But you get what you pay for & our experience was well worth the cost.
The mains were awful. Tasteless overcooked seafood. Pork belly was salty and faty. Entrees and desert where average as well.
Excellent restaurant. The food was on point, especially that beef tartar. The ambience of the place, the staff, the views of the beach: excellent. Would make a romantic spot for a date. Only thing disappointed in was the strawberry dessert. But everything else was sensational! Recommend. Would come again
In the dry season I would recommend asking for a table on the terrace and try get the sunset slot. Nice food and service and the best wine by the glass menu I have ever seen
Wow! Could not fault char. Friendly & plentiful staff, exceptional cuisine! Probably better suited for special night out but also cater to families. Would be back in heartbeat if staying longer. Beautiful location & backdrop. Recommend scallops, oyster, tartare, duck & make sure to save room for deconstructed lemon meringue! Superb
Great food and service. Best entree I've had for a long time! Wagyu spare ribs were fantastic and seasonal greens very tasty.
Sensational venue, excellent service, food was good though I probably didn't choose wisely as the flavours of the Brodetto of seafood didn't appeal to me. The pork belly, I'm told was very good. There weren't many gluten free options and I was disappointed decaf coffee wasn't available for a late night affogato. The chocolate mousse was fab.
The atmosphere is beautiful and tastefully decorated. We sat outside and you can clearly watch the sunset over the water as the fairy lights get brighter.
There is a decent wine and cocktail selection.
The customer service was great. We had a new waitress and she was really making an effort.
We ordered:
Cheesy and bacon garlic bread - would not recommend. It was burnt and was the hardest bread I've ever had to chew. It's also $16 for 2 pieces of bread and only one 1 piece had bacon on it.
Mains
We had the 1kg wagu rump steak to share.
We both enjoyed this dish
Dessert
Chocolate mouse
Affogato
