Cahills Crossing reviews
44This is an interesting place to appreciate the scenery of the territory. It is the pathway to two remote communities which you will require a pass to visit. This is also a good place to see crocodiles in the wild. It is suggested you stick to the viewing platform to see them for obvious reasons
Better than I expected. We saw crocs and people fishing for barra. Driving over the crossing is not for the faint hearted
A fascinating spot, a respite from the heat and mozzies at our campsite. Entertaining watching the tide rushing in and then back out across the roadway & rocks from the well constructed viewing platforms. Several people on both sides of the river catching barra and tour boats going up & down. Several crocs too sighted and on our 2nd day visit, we had the bonus of a ranger doing a very educating & funny talk for over an hr at 3pm. Interesting watching the traffic making the crossing too.
Great adventure crossing the River in summer, when the water levels are moderate. Still able to see some crocodiles in the water staring at the visitors. Not to be missed on a Kakadu Holiday. Other places of interest nearby include Ubirr, Jabiru, the cultural Centre and the wonderful Jim Jim Falls and Gunlom Falls.
We went on the East Alligator River cruise. Our tour was fantastic discovering the uses the indigenous people used for the local trees and plants found along the river. Our guide allowed us to set foot on Arnhem land. Highly recommend!
Impressive to see vehicles passing through the water and you might see crocodiles; also fishermen. There is a lookout.
Must see free experience to see dozens of crocodiles, jaws open, catching fish as the tide turns.
Few crocs today, only glimpsed a couple in an hour at sunset. Possibly distracted by nearby road works but fisherman report that croc food (Barra) was also missing.
We visited Kakadu and our friends who live here brought us here to see the famous crossing. I blew me away that people were fishing with crocodiles swimming in the same waters. It was crazy and that’s why I watch from far away. Be careful if you go here and take head of the signs.
It's a bucket list thing to do for some. But you need to respect the place, and be very careful when and how you cross. There are reminders just down stream of how dangerous the crossing can be.
Saw a croc the walking path was shut the lookout over the river was shut. Looks like a good fishing spot.
Beautiful spot to try some fishing for the elusive barramundi, of course from the safety of the rocks, as large crocodiles inhabit this area.
We crossed here to enter into Arnhem Land. Didn't go close to the river due to crocs. Very dangerous. We watched as others crossed and then went back over the crossing. You require a permit to enter into Arnham Land.
Very cool!
Lots of up close incouters with the big guys!
Driving across the crossing with the crocs all watching you at such a close distance is.
Super cool a bit rough and I'd only go through on low tide personally. But a must do if u ask me.
High tide is the time to go with the crocs lining up snapping at the huge barra coming thru as the water rushes across the crossing.
Lots of Crocs especially at high tide as they gather to eat the fish going up the stream.

I see it nearly every single day crocodiles Kinga and the landscape of the river it's so magical
When the tide comes in all the Crocs come to catch the fish. Over 30 crocs there day we went. It's amazing.
A great to watch the crocodiles feed.
But you need to pick high tides time for the best time
Being able to see crocodiles in the wild was amazing, even at a very simple crossing connecting Kakadu and Arnhem Land. I was lucky to see a large crocodile 'cross the road' as I arrived, but the whole thing was a bit unnerving, with many people too close for comfort to the East Alligator River. Be careful and vigilant and instead observe from the secure platform.
