I wish I could give a zero but had to assign 1 star to have the review published as a warning for others.

Due to lockdown and it being closer to where I live, I went to Vaucluse Auto Repairs to get a pink slip last week instead of my usual mechanic. We have a fairly newish (5yo) car that hasn't had any problems to date so I thought it would be a pretty straightforward process.

Was I wrong! I was told that I needed my rear tyres replaced, my brake pads changed and the front wheel hub replaced! I was in serious shock - so took my car to my regular mechanic the next day who found no problems whatsoever and issued the pink slip.

I would be very careful using these guys as it appears they "find" problems to fix when they are non-existent or not too problematic. They are probably trading on the fact that most people trust their mechanics and will do what they say. I see they have received pretty good reviews, which reflects that they are very personable in their approach. So, if you don't mind being upsold and have deep pockets, they are the mechanic for you. However, if you are cost-conscious and don't like to be ripped-off like me, I wouldn't use them - and always get a few quotes from different mechanics anyway before committing to serious repairs!

*** Please read the previous negative reviews as there is a disturbing pattern here. I should have - and now realise that I was right in their "sweet spot" for ripping-off as a female looking for a pink slip. Another pattern I picked up is be prepared to fork out a minimum of $2000 for a pink slip / repairs here ***

The team at VAR were beyond helpful. I came to them in a time of need and they made me feel confident and safe with my choice, as a young women it is easy to feel nervous when finding a mechanic, but with the VAR team, I felt so confident and was so happy with my service. They truely went above and beyond me.

Called up about a puncture repair, from the call to getting the repair completed was less than an hour. Very quick and professional and will be using them for any servicing or repairs I may have in the future.

If you're looking for a reliable and honest mechanic in the east, this is the place to go. Michael and the team take great care of our 10-year old Mini Cooper. They make sure you're aware of everything that needs to be done to your car and with reasonable costs. They also do more than what is asked for which is a delightful plus to the already superb service they provide. I would 100% recommend this shop.
