The Old Fitzroy Hotel reviews
72Went for Christmas party! Had a beautiful time, Nice collection of canapes, seemed lacking into the veg/vegan department
An authentic pub with excellent beer and the Wagyu burger and chips was one of the best I have ever eaten. Well worth walking up the hill from the wharf. Recommended.
Great old fashioned pub. Loved the downstairs bar area. Good beer selection and brilliant atmosphere.
Let down by really poor service in dining area upstairs. Paid $39 for a roast dinner on Father’s Day so expected it to be top notch for that price.
Had to ask every time to have a menu, someone take our drinks order then food order. Food then took 45 mins to arrive. Requested kids meal served with our starters, didn’t happen.
Starters were brilliant. Roast itself was ok at best. Meat was over cooked which could be because it was late in the serving (2: 30pm) and perhaps the last bits of meat (not pink in the middle at all). Potatoes soggy not crispy.
Had to ask for more gravy as it only came with a drop. Yorkie was decent tho.
All in all was left a bit disappointed as such a great pub only to be let down by the food / service.
The Sunday roast was really disappointing. The portion size was small, the chicken (and the whole roast) was flavourless and the texture was too moist, the carrots were hard. The atmosphere was nice though so we’d come back for a drink!
This is a pub with a lot of character. Good range of beer on tap, including Mountain Culture. The cheeseburger was very nice as well. The interior could use a reno.
Used to be the best pub.then they suddenly removed all their vegan options and won't make exceptions.
Edit* I was told there was nothing they could do except chips when I asked
A victim of its own success.
I’d have liked to like the Old Fitzroy, since it’s local and popular, with a high review average. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is pleasant.
The food, however, is very poor. The steak was about one quarter gristle, plus being overpeppered. Not what I want or expect from a $40 steak that only comes with chips, no salad. Speaking of the chips, they were barely warm with the steak and with the cheeseburger. The cheeseburger was on a stale bun but was otherwise fine.
Staff, while friendly, were too rushed to keep tables clean. Dirty dishes remain on tables for significant periods after the guest leaves and very often the staff don’t bother to clear a table until there are a fresh set of guests sitting at the table with dirty dishes in front of them. Even then, the table is not wiped down, so they’re generally sticky and have bits of sauce and grease on them.
Don’t believe the menu photos on here. Steak is $40, cheeseburger nearly 30.
It is a nice atmosphere. I will say that, and it’s the one reason this isn’t a one star rating. But two, honestly, feels generous. I would consider coming here for drinks, as they have an extensive selection; food, certainly not.
We just enjoyed a rather low-key birthday dinner here on a Monday night. The food was great, the menu is small, very freshly cooked, service really good, nice wines. My steak and chips was very delicious, ditto bread, duck croquettes, chicken and trout. The old fitz is such a quirky interesting pub, for some reason we hadn’t been for a while. Our mistake. Thank you. Will be back!
My favourite Sydney pub for some years, with a broader selection of ales and a good restaurant these days
Don't order charcuterie board$30.00.sml plate salami 8 pickles 4 sml bread &butter.charged $15.00 for extra 6 pieces bread.rip-off
Food and wine list is great. The shows are great as well.
Great local pub
Update,
Used to be amazing, pub still good but the steak for $36 and $3 for mustard was terrible.
Over cooked, fatty piece of meat and a small amount of chips. We ordered 3 for the 3 of us and all 3 said the same thing.
Should of been a $12 steak. Wouldn't recommend. Prices have been jacked up and quality has dropped.
Don't recommend for food, still a nice local pub etc.
Pretty cool little pub, Good margaritas and easy to find a parking, very lovely stuff and a good customer service!
Yum! Beautiful pub, epic food. Service is laid back but feels right.
Try the octopus, croquette and their hot chips are tasty!
Cheap and delicious inner city pub.with charming interior and comfortable atmosphere. The Diane steak and the Brussel salad were both huge hits, we loved everything we had. May return.
Very surprised by the high reviews for this place. The food is beyond expensive… $44 for a very poor steak and chips. No salad, no mash alternatives. $27 for a beer and house wine. Felt a bit ripped off. Would not recommend this pub.
Very busy on a Friday night but otherwise a very local & small gastropub where you can sit pretty much where you want.
The staff are great and the food is amazing!
Great spot upstairs for lunch and drinks in this quaint pub. We were seated by the window on a table for 4. The fish and steak frittes were cooked to perfection. The cocktails and wine and the waiter service all first class. We will come back again.
Seems I have to re-review this place as often as Britain gets a new PM. Nowadays, it's part of the odd culture group, who bring merivale style shi-shi and prices to the flannelette crowd. The crowd here is the same pot pourri (intended) as ever. The food is tres merivale. Good thinking driving menus that can be produced regularly and with excellence, at a price just above what you expect. The service is the same friendly dude thing we get in the better places, which this is.
Okay pub but there food selection in the main bar is very limited and the servings are tiny. $31 for the tiniest trout and no side. The plates of food look stupid they are so empty.
Such a nice vibe and the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is nice but silly expensive. We ordered the fish for $32 and it was a small piece of fish on the plate with absolutely nothing else. No salad or chips or bread or anything. Tasted yum but left me wanting.
