The clinic runs like a sleazy used car dealership where Dr Desai churns out as much billing per visit as possible, $380 consult, an unnecessary $108 complex lung function test and a $122 nasendoscopy before he even asks for your patient history makes him more expensive than LA plastic surgeons

Your 10 minute consult is a rushed CPAP sales pitch at best and at worse a gaslighting experience where you're further pitched an expensive sleep hygiene course for $450 that contains about as much information as a few free Healthline articles, as he herds his cash cows into repeat visits all to maintain his 4 figure hourly income

Perhaps he feels he has earned the right to charge this much based on his credentials and expertise, it is a somber disillusionment that instead of lives saved and patients cured as a metric, Dr Desai opted for wealth accumulation as a metric for personal success

Morally bankrupt would be too harsh, but he is indeed a businessman who just happens to have picked medicine as a career and disregards the conflict of interest he has with CPAP therapy, I have consulted 3 highly distinguished ENTs in Sydney and they all had a working knowledge of sleep disordered breathing anatomy and suggested I consult an orthognathic surgeon, all he did was hand me a brochure

Dr Anup Desai was excellent at quickly assessing my respiratory situation and advising me of the way forward. He instilled me with a lot of confidence about the outcome. Appointment was timely and managed efficiently.

Hi Dr Desai,

As you are aware, I carried out a sleep test through your clinic on the 22nd of October 2022. The sleep test involves taking home the device that you lend out to your patients and trusting they attach the wires, pads and machine correctly. However this method increases the room for error as you depend on your sleep deprived patients to correctly attach the equipment. This is another reason why I was reluctant to carry out a sleep test at your clinic.

When I carried out my sleep test I incorrectly applied the device by accident, this can be proven with photo evidence and when I found the results, I read how the sleep test measured myself in the prone position which raised alarms as I had the machine on my chest meaning it would be difficult for myself lay prone. I also recall myself falling asleep and waking up in the supine positon however the sleep test resulted with no recording of myself being in the supine position.

When enquiring about the failed sleep test, you mentioned “the reading was incorrect however it works well in my favour because if the sleep machine had recorded correctly you (as in I) would have resulted with a better result”, with this being said you were satisfied with the incorrect measurement of my AHI.

I must say however that my memory and heart health has declined significantly since the test as I trusted your advice. I quickly learnt that there was something wrong as I started to perform badly at work.

I am worried how specialists like yourself are thieving patients of their medicare rebate and advising patients with incorrect results. I have since carried out two sleep study tests which have resulted with mild sleep apnea in both tests as opposed to your normal ranged AHI.

I will have these recent results sent to my GP to supersede your test. I am extremely disappointed in your professionalism and will have this information reflected into your review. I will also do what it takes to ensure I get my medicare rebate back and to warn of others about your incompetent practices to sleep apnea patients.

This ends my request for your services from Sydney Sleep Centre and wish you the best.

Edit: Thank you for providing a refund however no matter how many times you ask, this review will not be removed.

Regarding your reply below - Even if I were to pickup the machine myself there still is a risk for all sleep deprived patients to incorrectly apply the device. In further, at the time of raising this issue with you, there was no comment regarding having the test redone, this was not offered at all. Instead you left me a message which bluntly stated "This ends your care at Sydney Sleep Centre and we wish you the best".

If there is no correlation betwen the AHI and my sleep positioning, your tests must be faulty beacuse as mentioned above, I have since carried out two tests following your sleep study and they have both recorded mild apnea wth an AHI of 10-12 whilst yours was under 5! This that tells me your tests should not be trusted, however no matter how much distrust I had in your test you were satsified and were eager to move me on.

In summary, my experience at your clinic was rushed which gave me the impression you were trying to get me out of the way. There was no offer to redo the test at no cost, and you could not provide any other alternative to the treatments I am currently undergoing. I've read previous comments regarding your practice which include high fees and rushed/quick consultations and that is simply how you run your clinic.

All about cashflow as opposed to helping patients.

Amira

The sleep study this clinic booked is jolly appalling. The clinic said they couldn’t do anything about it which the St Luke Care hospital the signed up with.

I would say for anyone want to do a good quality sleep study. Please go somewhere else. You wouldn’t get a good one.

I’d like to thank St Luke’s Care Private Hospital and all the staff I came in contact with relating to my recent sleep study. I was assisted with a quick and easy admittance and was taken to my private room by the same friendly and assuring staff member. My ensuite room was spacious, and besides being quiet (back of clinic) the blockout blinds were very effective in darkening the room, important when you’re doing a sleep study. A comfortable bed and pillows helped. I had a menu to choose dinner and breakfast from, and the food didn’t disappoint. All steps were explained to me and I was reminded to call at any time during the study if need be. At my chosen bedtime a staff member attached the monitors ect just before bedtime. I had a good nights sleep and woke at the usual time. It was so easy and comfortable I hardly noticed the wiring, monitors ect. A big thank you to all the friendly and professional staff and St Luke’s for the great facility.

I cannot recommend Sydney Sleep Centre more highly. The staff are amazing. Very accommodating, they honestly went above and beyond to help me. Dr Desai was phenomenal and took the time and effort to explain everything and really went out of his way to assist me.
This clinic was recommended to me by my GP, she said this was the best clinic in Sydney and I have to whole heartedly agree. This is the clinic you need to attend.

Thanks so much Sydney Sleep Centre.

In late 2019 I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. Dr. Desai and the team were very professional and thorough assisting me to work through my options. I now use an automated CPAP machine every night, and am regularly getting a great six - seven hour sleep. Using the sleep App I can now track the quality of my sleep.

I strongly recommend sleep apnea sufferers visit the Sydney Sleep Centre, and start enjoying the multiple benefits of vastly improved sleep.

I cannot express enough gratitude to Sydney Sleep Centre for their handling of me.

Such a comfortable waiting room I could have actually fallen asleep ;) - with full COVID safe processes in place.

The staff were warm and caring, yet delicate with someone like me so tired with zero patience.

They were on time, they heard my situation that means so much more than listening to it. They understood my urgency and I can never thank them enough for helping me through this process which was a little scary for me - but this team made me feel completely safe - THANKYOU!

Thank you for your excellent services over the past few months. As a result of these I have stopped snoring, significantly reduced my sleep apnoeas, lost my chronic insomnia, sleep 7- 8 hours a night, don’t disturb my husband, and feel much clearer in the head and find life so much easier. Dr Desai was the third sleep physician I have consulted. He is caring and incisive in his approach and offered practical solutions to my sleeping difficulties which I had experienced for decades. He identified two sleep issues: sleep apnoea and insomnia (this was new to me and made it easier to sort out management). He recommended a trial of a CPAP machine for the sleep apnoea and snoring and Nathalie was extremely helpful over several sessions in trialing various machines, masks and head straps until we found the best arrangement. Dr Desai also recommended a 6 week on-line cognitive behaviour therapy course especially designed for insomnia. The course involves mindfulness practise and is quite a lot of work but has been worth it as my insomnia has largely gone and I have also been able to introduce mindfulness and yoga practise into my daily life which has brought so many other benefits. I am so grateful to you all. Thank you.
