Once a big hole in the ground, World square is now a vibrant hub. Rydges is conveniently located and the staff are very helpful.
Easy parking underneath

This is a hostel parading as a hotel. Room was dusty, the bathroom floor was dirty and hallways looked like they had not been vacuumed in a long while. (I counted 8 sneezes from the room to the elevator). I booked this hotel as it stated online "sleeps 3". I proceeded to pay the $691.60 upfront got the two nights (this makes it a $345.80 room per night which was partially acceptable given the marathon was on). I then called to advise them that we would be checking in at 7 pm (not 2 pm) and asked to confirm that a roll away would be in the room on arrival. Reservations confirmed yes and advised thy would charge the card on file $100.00 PER NIGHT FOR THE ROLL A AWAY. This makes this stay at $445.80 per night a rip off. This hotel is far from a $445.80 hotel per night and on top this the:

1. Staff were unfriendly. (I did not count one happy looking front desk staff member on check in)
2. Supervisor I spoke to re roll a way and price uninterested.
3. On the Saturday morning as I walked passed a coffee stand in the foyer I believed it was a stand for hotel guests only to be almost tackled to the ground by a staff member advising it was for "conference guests" only. (Coffee in hotel foyer is common in many places around the world especially USA and is a nice touch.usually)

I am in Sydney almost weekly for work and will never ever stay at Rydges World Square ever again. The hotel needs to grow up and be a real hotel at the rate they charged me.

Rydge world square
The good
Rydges gave us a free upgrade to family rooms and provided rooms on the same floor so family weren’t separated too far

Conrad’s attitude made me feel like I was staying at a 10 star hotel, not a 4 star hotel.

Salvador also had a friendly manner.

Salvador and Conrad both were helpful in suggesting the best transport methods to get to where I needed to get to

Rooms were nice

Hotel buffet selection was great

The bad
Cleanliness is 4 stars, they weren’t as thorough as desired.

Location is not the best if you’re looking to hit tourist destinations. It was close to food but if you’re looking at visiting the harbour bridge, opera house, Taronga zoo and the fish market, you’d be better off staying near circular quay.

This hotel must be getting commissions from Silver Service taxis. They were pushing for taxis over Ubers and I got scammed in both taxis they organised.

The first taxi refused to turn on their meter insisting they were promised a fixed price (I was never informed of this) - I was charged $42 to the fish market.

The second taxi driver inputted a number higher than the meter figure in the payment machine. When questioned, he claimed it was a fee banks are charging, not him. As an Australian, I know no banks charge a 5% surcharge.

The concierge knew of both these experiences and still tried to get me to book a taxi a third time. In fact, I was told afterwards by concierge that the fixed price I was charged was to prevent tourists from getting scammed despite Ubers costing half as much.

Overall
Given how much of a scam the taxis the hotel organised were, I can only give this hotel 3 stars, which is a shame because it would have been 4.5 stars otherwise

The room is ok, the service is so-so, the location is very good, in the heart of the city, near the walking street. Close to all amenities. Recommended.

Pretty good hotel but weird layout and could improve on house keeping and manager/s need training how to communicate, especially being in a hospitality business.

Great hotel! Only criticisms I had were that the shower door’s inability to shut properly caused water to constantly flood everywhere! Also, the fridge was way too cold which actually freezed the water in the plastic water bottles we stored in there. As well as how stuffy the room would get. I would recommend staying here though and would definitely look into staying again because the location is great, staff are very friendly and the rooms were great:) I also loved how fast the elevators went up/down!

Great location! Easy walking distance to most tourist spots and excellent transport links. The room was clean and bed was very comfy. Shower door didn’t close properly so bathroom would flood with a shower. Housekeeping vacuumed the halls and next door room at 6.30am! But otherwise a lovely stay.

I booked my Aunty a stay here for check out Monday 14th august 11am (still have booking emails as proof). When my Aunty tried to check out they charged her $300 and something due to staying an extra night and she paid it without questioning (she is an elderly lady). Lucky we heard about this and demanded the money be returned to her which they ended up returning.

The hotel in itself is in a very nice location, close to everything, we thought buffet breakfast was included with our room to the value of $28 but, we found out it wasn't included and it was $28 and had to book it and pay for it separately, very misleading indeed, parking was $40 for the day, we were offered an upgrade on the room for an extra $40 or $45 can't really remember, with a balcony with a view.we thought yes we'll take that but was so disappointing when we got to the room the balcony with a view was a view to the rooftop and the walls of the buildings next to it.and our room was at the end of the floor we had to go for a long walk to go in and out and near the laundry lol.the TV wasn't working at all, they sent in a technician and it was fixed the next day, overall it wasn't what I was expecting for a hotel in the city, their carpets looked very old and the floor was very dark, I noticed some wholes on the roof also, for the money we paid I expected more

Spent the night for a staycation for a candlelight concert.

The team was very kind and patient as my card had reached its spend limit. They were able to swiftly give me alternative options to get the stay moving.

Standard clean hotel room.

We ordered dessert room service at around 9pm and it was up at our room within 5-10 minutes.

Buffet breakfast was exceptionally good and very covid organised.

I stayed at the hotel for a conference for 2 nights with having all my meals in the hotel. It was okay and the location was one of the best things about this hotel. It was very clean and comfortable. There was a couple of things that I didn't like though, breakfast was off a menu but the food was very hot. I also had a power issue in the room, none of the power points were working and fridge wasn't working. I alerted the front desk to it on Saturday morning, nothing was done then I went back that evening and it seemed that it hadn't even looked at. They did send someone up and they left a note saying that I could move rooms with seeing the front desk. I was sharing with an other person and they didn't want to move so we didn't. When we checked out the next morning, there wasn't any apology or checking to see how the stay was. I know things like this happen and things get missed. I was expecting a bit better customer service though. I wouldn't be choosing this place to stay in the inner city.

A friend of mine and I used this hotel for 3 nights last week. Everything provided us with was really great. A bed, bathroom and laundry room were all clean and every day housekeeping was well-done.
A receptionist (may be probably a manager?) took care of me very carefully without showing annoyed even though it was at night, as I got food poisoning. I appreciate her from the bottom of my heart. Others also asked me how I was every time I went by the reception.
If I go to Sydney again, I will use this hotel and if friends of mine want to go, I will recommend this hotel strongly.
Thank you very much for all during my stay.

Nice little venue. I knew this place long before it was constructed which seemed to take ages. A lot of Sydney's history in this part of town.

I have hosted 3 events this year - the events team and th hotel/restaurant staff made sure that all my events were COVID Safe. Their infection control measures are high standard and they take the safety of everyone very seriously. The team are very friendy and professional, definitely my favourite venue to host an event - big or small. Thanks again:)
