Newcastle Art Gallery reviews
37Terrible the exhibition upstairs was just literally rubbish thrown together I'd be surprised if the artist can draw a stick figure no wander his pieces are donated nobody would pay for them
As Art Galleries go this one is great, not to big not to small with plenty to see and keep your interest.
Always providing the community with outstanding exhibitions and experiences for the kids during school holidays
They had a Nolan on display - but not the one with square helmets on Australian heroes; a Whiteley, laughing raucously at the establishment, but not in the way that that curly haired fellow usually did; a Rupert Bunny, painting roses in that turn of the 'last' century fashion; an Olley still life as you might expect - this was the exhibition Floriana - proof that any artist (with the exception of our Margaret) needs to master flowers and plants before they paint the good stuff. Newcastle art gallery is a promising art space with the look and feel of a public gallery - sadly it's a little on the small side but the space gets bigger as you figure out more about the art. The upstairs was filled with strange sculptures that appeared to spend too long getting in their own way with their perceptions of importance. Worth a visit for the Olsen on the ceiling. Friendly staff, well stocked gift shop. Free public wi-fi, which is awesome.
I didn't care for the exhibitions on display I'm afraid. Not to my liking. The gallery is very nice though.
Lovely space with an interesting collection that looks substantial. Some great touring exhibitions.
A smaller sized gallery with a variety of exhibitions that are changed regularly. The activities on weekends are great for kids as is the park it fronts onto. Well worth a regular visit.
Very nice place to go to take pictures often have cool events like free pottery. Also very informative about some of the history of the art pieces.
This is an amazing regional gallery. They have a huge collection, and they often have free exhibitions throughout the gallery (although upstarts is sometime paid). I'd definitely recommend checking it out whether you're a local or just passing through.
Visited after many years with a client I look after. The displays was tidy, the area was clean and not crowded.possibly because the topic of the exhibit was flowers.not something two older gentlemen would get much from. Will go back again when an exhibit that interests us is on display.
Absolutely loved the entire experience, Its great to see the expression's of other artist in a positive, constructive environment.
Quite small gallery but interesting and varied exhibits and installations.
We went for a school holiday painting arts and crafts activity which was well organised and a lot of fun for my children.
Recently visited to see Olsolen Ormandy. A Creative Force. Great multi level gallery space that offers many different activities for the community with a focus on kids learning and art education. Also located in the centre of the funky cafe/dining district know as Darby St. If you're in Newcastle make sure you pay them a visit.
We love this space. The staff is what really makes the whole experience, so helpful and happy.
My kids love art cart on Saturday, if you have young kids just drop in after 10am. The project of the day only take 10 mins, but I'm sure the children and you will want to stay longer.
If you don't have children the gallery well worth the visit, or you could just borrow some kids and go to Art Cart
Beautiful space, airconditioned, sparkling clean.but not good use of the space. I think more art can be displayed in the existing space. Just a shame to waste the space
Great school holiday activities for kids. My 5 year old loves her Art Apron. Also loved the Olsen Ormandy exhibit.
