Museum of Sydney reviews
59Very much in love with this place, always have exhibitions that are of high quality on show. The Street Photographers was my fave. Highly recommend this one to anyone in Sydney
Visited the Sydney Street Photography exhibition, really enjoyed this display, certainly shows the history of Sydney and the extent of change in dress etc,
What a shame this sort of died out, a great way of showing history of city
Offers good exhibitions about Sydney. Well catered to children. Brings in interesting exhibitions that show Sydney's past.
If you want to know more about Sydney Opera House and Sydney harbour bridge, it will be a good place. But I would rather recommend Australian museum, as the admission fee is the same, but more things to see.
Great museum if you're intersted in the history of the early australian settlers and Sydney history in general. The staff is lovely as well!
I expected more than a few exhibits stuffed into the corner of the old government house. I only discovered later the difference between the museum of Sydney and the museum of Australia.
Very educational for everyone, some displays such as the old and new Sydney city maps, and the computer screen were interactive; which was very interesting and well made.
This museum is great, I would like to come back to see what else is on, the site the museum is on has a lot of history and is great to see the old drainage in the ground. The building is a good layout and easy to follow. The member of staff that dealt with us was very well spoken, polite and a very nice person. The building felt clean and cool in the heat which is necessary if you are visiting from a cooler climate and can't handle the heat too muc. The closeness of the Botanical gardens to this means you can take a morning walk through the park before going to the museum. The exhibit on street photography sparked an interest I have in capturing people in the normal look they have when just walking. I am not a fan stand and smile photos. All the pictures and the process they went to finding the people and recapturing the pictures. I would like to look more at this exhibit.
Always interesting. Current Street Photography Exhibit. Great fashions from oast and fun spotting where they were taken
The exhibition was good.the children were totally involved for hours they were thrilled wearing work clothes especially the hard hat.
I didn’t like it as a kid, but loved it as an adult at $12 the entry is cheap as chips it paints the hidden layers of the colony of Sydney paying homage to the Eroa nation and the tribes such as the Dharawal people. Showing this paints not only the story of Sydney but the story of Australia.
What a beautifully curated and designed museum, with rich history and tradition etched into its walls and all the different exhibits from its Aboriginal heritage to the First Fleet and beyond. A rich display of history in this rich building.
Good museum with a lot to absorb. Need a few visits to fully grasp the essentials. The aboriginal section is also quite detailed and informative. Not far from Circular Quay.
As one of the most famous cities in Australia, I was expecting a more robust display at the Museum of Sydney. The two levels (excluding ground floor) whilst providing a somewhat interesting record of Sydney's early history left me wanting more. The admission price ($12 for adults) was too generous for a museum with such little to offer.
Very very small and not very good displays, stairs everywhere if you want a workout and to waste $15 dollars go here
For a small museum it has a great amount of historical stories and artifacts. The demolished Sydney exhibition showed me an insight I never knew about Sydney. I wish they would make that a permanent feature and expand the stories to include the old outer suburbs too. Highly recommend a visit.
We enjoyed the Bohemian Artists of Lavender Bay exhibition. As we hadn't visited the museum before, it was also very interesting to have a look around and learn more about the original site of Government House
Gives a good understanding of Australia, the Aboriginals and the Settlers and how today's modern city came about.
