Great museum which offered a contemporary interpretation of Lake Macquarie and Newcastle's urban development through art. The sculptures by the lake were also well worth seeing.

I had an amazing time exploring the different local art. I can say that the exhibit was worth the visit. Afterwards I went to the cafe and they have amazing options, I loved their coffee.

Great place for art enthusiasts. There is a small cafe inside that serves hot/cold drinks, breakfasts and pastries. The museum is next to the lake so it’s a perfect spot for a day out.

Very relaxing way to see some very interesting local art. Nice and easy atmosphere, very helpful and cheerful staff. Archibald prize exhibit was well worth the visit… and coffee and lunch to finish off with a view.

Some wonderful art work here and some amateurish stuff currently on exhibition. We had a light meal here as well and a hot teapot of tea. A very pleasant visit.

Visited the Archibald exhibition. Very well done with plenty of volunteer guides, etc. Small gift shop.

The art gallery is amazing and the staff incredibly welcoming. This 1 star is for customer service in the coffee shop only. It's taken me months to get a client out of house due to a chronic health disability. We ordered coffee and cake and sat at the furtherest table away from other patrons there was no reserved sign. Mid way through coffee was approached by a female staff member who advised we would need to move to another table as she had the table reserved. I would not mind moving, if sign was on table, I wouldn't of even minded moving if the request was delivered with kindness or professionalism, but u made my client and I feel so uncomfortable, my client requested to leave immediately. It was an exceptionally unkind thing to do. I will never return to this coffee shop again. I urge you to think how your behaviour makes other patrons feel.

Such a lovely gallery. The staff are very knowledgeable of the artworks. It is beautifully curated. The cafe staff are incredible and great at communicating, the food is delicious. Very clean bathrooms, plenty of parking and the garden exhibit is beautiful. Thank you!

I've visited twice in the last few months & had a poor experience both times. First was for a paint & sip, where we were told on arrival we wouldn't be getting the complimentary drink advertised in the ticket price as "we no longer do that". Were given a short talk from the artist who was lovely & had nice work, but then we were sat down with a few pens & pencils, blank paper & told to just go for it. No direction at all, very unlike other paint & sips I've been to. It was quite awkward & a lot of people left fairly quickly.

The most recent time was for lunch at the gallery. The staff were rude, we felt like we weren't wanted there at all. When we went to order, it turned out they didn't have multiple menu items available (very small menu to start) & hadn't let us know. It all seemed too much effort from them, so we just left.

Top spot up the hill from the lake, tranquil. Enjoyed viewing the art of several very talented HSC students. Wouldn't change anything!

Remarkably poor service, only one of the waitstaff could raise a smile, certainly we didn’t have a booking but we felt unwelcome. At least one thing wasn’t on the menu but we didn’t find out till we went to order, it all seemed too hard. Very different from the impression we got from the website, where the menu seemed far more extensive. We decided not to take up any more of their time, left and were delighted with a very different experience at Hippo Espresso nearby in Warners Bay. Good customer service is not hard.

Beautiful grounds. Nice 2 x exhibit rooms. Would be perfect with just one more exhibition room. Cafe on site had a really good milkshake!

Really enjoy this Museum with its lakeside location, cafe and interesting exhibitions and gift shop that boasts a range of artistic, educational and decorative gifts for ever budget. The indigenous designed silk ties were beautiful and the children's toys were also really good.
Would recommend you don't rush your visit and plan a coffee or meal at the cafe as well or a picnic lunch by the lakeside grounds.

A great quiet little gallery. Alwasy has some excellent displays, very friendly staff, a small gift shop and it often has holiday activities for the kids.
The outdoor area has some larger permanenr art pieces on display and some beautiful views of the lake.very family friendly with an off leash dog area running beside the gallery and the lake. There are several seating areas for people to sit and enjoy the beautiful views the site has to offer.

Unfortunately the original and very historical art gallery, which was a beautiful restaurant known as awaba house previously burnt down is slowly being reconstructed.

I am a huge supporter of Australian art. It was a huge shame that the original house on this site was under repair, and covered with scaffolding, but my wife assured me the work was for a very good reason - the presence of asbestos. When the house was built, the dangers of this element weren't really known, but the ease with which it could be used for building.was. So, fair enough that they used it then. When the house is restored the Museum will be truly stunning. What is here and now though is a world class facility with some pretty interesting exhibits including video art and a wonderful audio soundscape playing in the background. The modern expression of Aboriginal art is much like the ancient expression - with the motivation consistently being the meaning of belonging and the expression of place. Just that there's been the belligerent colonisation by the English over the last 250 years which adds anger and frustration to the mix. You see that in the current exhibition. I really enjoyed the gallery, but only wished it was bigger. The gift shop was special, especially since it had a large range of trinkets and art pieces by local artists and not endless copies of the Mona Lisa or worse, Andy Warhols soup cans. Wait. Perhaps Andy sells. Mostly the work of local artists, at least. Which is nice. The sculpture garden is a 10 minute walk well worth it. The three Bears cafe is a nice spot for lunch, but that's another review, close by.

I was just passing through briefly stopped by but for what I saw, a small beautiful space, friendly staff and in-captivating exhibitions.
