Merewether Surfhouse reviews
82My mum and I enjoyed a beautiful lunch overlooking the ocean. The barramundi was mouthwatering and the mousse was decadent. Unfortunately we had a dry cheesecake which is why I gave them 4 out of 5 stars on this occassion.
Beautiful location, ocean views, good menu,
However, I thought the food quantity, per plate was not as well presented, ordered pork, received one pork chop with some sauce? No garnish at all.
Great location and cant fault the service. However, was not happy with the food. Lobster served with a small salad and huge amount of chips for $60 is not ideal. The steak was very tough and no steak knife given for $49.50 also not worth it. The prawn pasta was mushy with 2 prawns also not ideal. I feel like the food is nowhere near as good as it use to be- yes been there many times. Very Disappointing.
I had lunch there today. The food, drinks and service were outstanding. The view incredible with some whales going by today made it even better. In the past I have felt the menu was limited but not today. Something for every taste and excellent quality.
Discrimination on age. We were refused service because I had my 3 month old asleep in the pram with me. It was a quiet day only a handful of customers. Us and other customers were disgusted when they heard them do this. We were taking my Aunty out for a nice meal after the passing of her husband. This made me feel embarrassed and disadvantaged. Missing out on discriminatory grounds.
Went to the newish Mexican bar downstairs.
Disappointing.
Food was very minimal and bland. We ordered fish tacos which came with fish and some feta, no salad, no sauce or lime/ lemon.
Also ordered nachos, prawns and some corn.
The prawn dish was prawns with garlic (not a sauce) but came with bread, didn't go together.
Overall very disappointing and expensive considering the dishes were tiny.
Food was okay, but overpriced. Staff were there, but not helpful or friendly.
The best thing was the amazing view.
Highly rate the Merewether Surfhouse. Great service, atmosphere and views in the bar area. We drank delicious cocktails and ate a vegan pizza off the bar menu. Worth every penny! Perfect place to bring your out of town guests.
Lovely restaurant with a fantastic view, good menu with enough options to suit everyone, excellent selection of drinks and a nice atmosphere.
Got takeaway from their kiosk and totally disappointed. Should have known better! I ordered the rainbow burger which is a vegan and Gluten free burger option. Was meant to come with a black bean patty. Instead I got an oil drenched chunk of chewy mushroom - the change in ingredient wasn't communicated at any point by the staff. To add to that it's a steep $16 for what could be a little cocktail burger
Overpriced and underwhelming. The view is the only good thing about the venue.
Good place for a drink before sunset. Meals have always been disappointing both in the café and the restaurant.
Seriously Great food good location as u can watch the waves drift by eggs benedict with bacon is my go 2 very busy around lunchtime
Extremely good food loved the vegetarian gnocchi cocktails good wine list
Best table service ever think our wait person Kat Thankyou for serving us so beautifully
Excellent view for a special birthday
You can't give zero starts unfortunately so they get one.
They wouldn't let me use my own cup, I get it, COVID, I don't argue even though we're not in a hot spot and I can use it everywhere else.
So I asked them to at least leave the lid off to save some plastic as I'd be pouring it into my cup anyway. Nup, they put a lid on.
It may not seem like a big deal to people but I don't know how you can be looking out at that view all day and add another unwanted bit of plastic into the world.
Head to Blue Door or Convoy if you're keen for a stroll.
Delicious meal, great relaxed feeling, amazing view, reasonable prices, friendly and competent service. We loved it
Overpriced Italian with middling outcomes. Aggressive fine menu but not always with payoff, marred a bit by execution and a bit by choice. For instance my pasta was cooked well beyond al dente, the listed rigatoni was not rigatoni at all unless they cut it in half for styling, and the arancini a bit bland. The roast chicken was by far the star of the menu, flatbread good. Desserts also hit and miss, the mild and tart lemon meringue Panna Cotta was fine but the cannoli much less so.
The food is very nice however the customer service is really really bad. The manager is not customer oriented at all and we were not treated friendly whatsoever.
We came with a child of 10 years and we really wanted to have a pizza, but we couldn’t get it at all because our child is under 18 and we couldn’t sit at a table where pizza would be served. So it’s the same venue, but different menus for two floors and if you come with a child you simply can’t order a pizza. How silly is that? The manager wasn’t very nice to us at all and tried to get rid of us claiming that all the tables were fully booked months ago. But the venue was half empty all through the Friday night.
Hot drinks came out with one boiling hot and one barely warm and flavourless. A little crowded which is hard to avoid with their small venue. Chip sizes are generous.
Updating my review after visiting 2 weeks ago. Pre-pandemic the restaurant was amazing as you can see below. Went back for dinner recently. What a disappointment! Menu has changed to ‘Italian’ but it’s not really. Steaks were so tough. The pork main was like a pub parmie. I never have a problem paying for good food. This is no longer good food and the prices are exorbitant for what can only be described as low rent cafe. Weird license too and refused to serve brandy without it being on ice.
Not sure if it’s changed owners but won’t be back in a hurry.

Favourite restaurant - always impeccable service and the food is delicious. We love the ocean front bar tables to gaze out at the ocean while we drink the excellent cocktails and enjoy oysters, or the other delights on the menu. Highly recommended for special occasions.
Went again on the weekend. Food was superb but the service wasn’t quite what I remembered. Maybe because it was the end of the meal service. Cocktails were amazing!
Really disappointed. Wanted to book for a group of 8 and they wont accomodate! Couldn't even have 2 table of 4 near each other! Extreme shame as great location and the chefs are amazing!
