Iandra Castle reviews
29Beautiful Architecture & Gardens! Well worth the Trip! Excellent Area for Family Picnic!
Beautiful place, glad I visited as all money raised from entry fees go in to restoration of the homestead.
We were blessed to visit the castle on a beautiful Autumn day. You can buy tickets online ($20 adults). Not as much a castle as a large manor house, this piece of Australian history is local legend. Well run, and supported by local groups such as the Lions Club who sold sausage sandwiches and drinks, local volunteers also gave interesting lectures about the history of Iandra Castle. You can tour the main house, stables and garden at your leisure. We brought a picnic lunch with us and enjoyed it on one of the ground level verandahs. On the day coffee was available from a van, and the Young Steam engine enthusiasts had their steam engines chugging away near the stables. A most interesting and enjoyable day soaking up the sunshine and Australian history.
What an amazing history this place has. Worth a visit and not far away from Young or Grenfell from the Hume.
Beautifully restored, great informative history chat, beautiful grounds, very pretty place, there is a coffee can with a small selection of food which is lovely. We saw alot of people with picnics sitting around the grounds, great idea!
What a wonderful day. The volunteer were delightful and the grounds were amazing. The castle it's self was beautiful.
What a majestic old building originally siting on 32000 acres of very productive land. Being ĺovingly restored to its former glory. Well worth a visit. It opens to the public at different times throughout the year
Iandra is magnificent! The woodwork, the furnishings, the story of the restoration and the time it took is amazing. So much history!
What history what a place to visit, stables unique, gardens to die for, help with restorations needed, let's get behind this fabulous place, we can not loose this historic castle & outbuildings.
Beautiful peaceful place displaying the grandparents of yesteryears.
Well worth the entry fee.
Beautiful Castle well worth the visit. A great walk back in history. The grounds are beautifully maintained and it was just the ideal setting for the wedding we attended.
It may not be a castle technically but by gosh it’s huge, it’s grand and it’s definitely worth a look. The detail in this old castle is extraordinary. The stained glass windows, bay windows with seats, antique furniture, gardens so grand even the bees feel like royalty. It can get a little crowded as it’s only open certain weekends, and that was before the pandemic and the upstairs area isn’t wheelchair accessible or pram accessible but it’s worth the day out if you can. Take a picnic because you won’t want to leave without seeing every inch of this grand old house. On the way out make sure to stop by the castles own cemetery just up the road to pay your respects to the original owner.
It was so exceptional I loved exploring the castle and found it very emotional. It was stunning. A must do if you can. Make sure you book tickets on line early!
I am gob smacked by this building & it's surrounds. It holds a place in my mind I will never forget, well worth seeing. The hosts & their helpers (on the day) were just terrific.
Gates are closed now. Visited last weekend of Aug. You can see a part of castle from the boundary however we were travelling from Cowra and enjoyed some beautiful canola field on the way.
Castle is amazing, I gave 2 stars as I was not able to enjoy/visit due to limited operation hours
Like others, I am sure this is a great place. However it is closed on a weekend when you expect maximum tourists and during peak cherry festival period. It should not be advertised as a tourist destination if you cannot open it to the visitors during the main tourist period.
I am so looking forward to seeing this place when they have an open day in 2021. The building looks amazing from the road and such an interesting story. Can't wait to see it.
I, m sure it would be a wonderful sight. If you could see it. All you can see is one end of it from road. If it is claimed as a tourist attraction, it's not rocket science, tourists after driving the 28 km need more than than this. It borders onto vacant land, put a side pathway in to allow a view without bothering owners.
