History Hill Museum reviews
47Welcoming, informative, and an incredibly large and diverse collection. Could spend hours here.
Amazing collection of artifacts, combined with huge amounts of information about the history of the area, the gold rush and the historic life of Hill End
Amazing Museum, 10Aud for one time Miner experience in traditional way. They accept cash only. Museum have huge space and so pretty nice of everything.
Great place to visit full of history, great artefacts, awesome experience walking into underground mineshaft. Affordable so much to see!
Excellent museum of Hill End. Amazing collection. One need lots of time to go through. Worth for a day trip alone.
Years ago we took a number of school groups to Hill End and spent time with Malcolm and Daphne Drinkwater as they took the children, and a group of Church members, on guided tours around Hill End and through their extensive collection of items relating to the "Golden Years" in Hill End. We recently made a return visit and, once again, were amazed at Malcolm's knowledge and also at the expansion of their museum. A visit to the "History Hill Museum" should be on everyone's "to do list".
The space feels run down but I do beleive that's due to the lack of Gov funding, but lots of very interesting history about the place
Brilliant little museum with lots of information, and a little humour in between. We climbed up from inside the gold mine which was a real experience. Fantastic and worth the drive.
A great museum that's chokka block full of fun facts, a mine, dust, interesting artifacts and bric a brac. If you have school age children (or a school group) the main museum building looks like it was designed just for you. Though we are much older.we enjoyed it too.
Whoever curated the artefacts at this museum is hilarious! With a sense of humour and passion for history and culture, this is highly recommended. I wish more museums were like this.
Pretty cool place, slightly quirky. Tour has some tight ladders at the end so beware. Huge collection of mine artifects and some odd additions.
Malcolms museum is the best, reasonable entry fee (cash only) it has a huge range of early settler artifacts including indigenous relics
We visited in the middle of winter and the museum is not heated. So be aware that it will be cold.
There was so much to see, multiple rooms of displays. There is so much to look at, you could spend hours brousing.
We didn't do the mine walk because the thought of 7 ladders to climb out wasn't to our liking with children, but others in our group did and found it very interesting.
It was interesting but very dusty and just a little bit worn and tierd looking. The museum is privately owned, and it is clear that the owners are getting older. Still very much worth the visit. I do hope that family members take on the task of cleaning up the displays and keep the museum going.
Incredible parts of Australian history you won't find in a city, great day out and kids loved the mine!
We had a lot of fun we will come back again lovely people and they're nice and friendly, we really saw nature.
Comprehensive museum well worth a visit. Malcolm commentary very interesting and informative. A must see when visiting Hill End historic village.
This place is amazing. An absolute must stop for at least an hour or 4 if you like detail. Entry is only $10 per adult. He should charge more in my opinion.
This is one of the best attractions in the Hill End area. The museum is well worth a visit. It houses a quirky collection of thousands of original gold rush relics used by the people that lived in the area in the 1800’s. You can immerse yourself in history and travel back in time and discover what life was about for the miners and their families that settled there during the gold rush. Why not go in the underground mine and climb up the narrow ladder on the other end for a truly memorable experience.
Fantastic place to visit. Really well priced and setup. Lovely owners. Well worth the visit. Lots to see and do!
100% recommend giving this place a visit. Owner is extremely accommodating and kind. We had a fantastic time with our two young children. It is only a 2-3 minute drive up the road from the centre of town and leagues better then the bald hill mine. Very very informative and a very large collection. The mine shaft is definitely a must after your finished exploring the museum!
