History Hill Museum reviews
47Hidden gem in a very unassuming place.entrance doesn’t do it justice but wow. The artefacts and that tunnel is fantastic and an amazing climb out to finish. It’s cash only so be sure to get cash from the Royal Hotel in Hill End
Great place to go and explore some history.
Some very cool items to look at my son loved looking at all the old artefacts and guns the mine was cool to go though.
The owner was lovely to talk to
This Dan bloke doesn't know what he is talking about.the experience I had walking through the museum was excellent.from the old biker.
An incredible number of artefacts and very detailed information. We could have easily stayed longer in order to properly absorb and appreciate the history of that era. And our four-year old son also really enjoyed looking through all the different exhibits. I could not believe the amount of effort put in considering it is a private museum. Well worth the drive to Hill End from Bathurst.
Museum is nice and more entertaining than expected, even though there is lots of old junk like in many other similar places. I like that kind of stuff though and it has it's charm. Going through the mine is a true highlight, with several stretches of vertical steps at the other end. Definitely must visit in the area.
Unfortunately this location appears a little run down. There is definitely a lot of potential and some very interesting history to look at. I don't think this place is for everyone. It is a cash only entry so if you are intending on visiting then make sure you visit ATM prior.
Very interesting museum with amazing collections. The underground mine is exciting. The highlight is the ladder at the end of the mine.
A warren of wonders and a great experience for teenagers and adults. Bring cash. Phones and electronic devices dont work out there. Don't miss this.
All I can say is WOW.
There are items in the museum that I had never seen before.
I could have spent days here just looking in the museum.
We recently had the pleasure of experiencing an unexpected surprise visit to History Hill which turned out to be a fascinating journey through Australian and Gold history, even incorporating some Chinese aspects. The museum was a treasure trove of artifacts, exhibits, displays and rooms showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region.
The museum also had an extensive collection of gold nuggets, coins, and other artifacts, highlighting the importance of gold in shaping Australia's economy and history. The exhibits provided a fascinating insight into the lives of the prospectors and the impact that the gold rush had on the Australian landscape and economy.
The museum had several exhibits that showcased the contributions of the Chinese miners, including their innovative mining techniques and their cultural traditions. It was eye-opening to see how the Chinese culture had influenced the development of the mining industry in Australia, and how they had adapted to life in a new and unfamiliar land.
Our unexpected visit to this local museum was an unforgettable experience. I was impressed by the breadth and depth of the exhibits, and the interactive displays made the history come alive.
We highly recommend this museum to anyone interested in Australian history, mining, or just looking for a fascinating and educational day out. Although it is looking a bit tired and dated, it is well worth going! But remember TAKE CASH! $10 per adult! But absolutely worth it! Seriously though, take cash. The whole town operates on cash (or gold if you're lucky enough to find it!).
Wow what a collection. Unfortunately it didn't get opened until late in the day so we were rushed through it but we were glad it opened at all as it wasn't scheduled to be.
A very different and interesting museum, an eclectic collection of mining artefacts and other artefacts from the frontier says, includes a actual mine. The curator is kind and knowledgeable individual. Worth the drive
Great day, very welcoming. Awesome staff. Thank you for looking after my large group of seniors.
Excellent museum, extensive collection of interesting historical artefacts, informative video and self guided mine walk.
Worth the 1 hour drive for Bathurst just to see this museum. It's a huge and sort of random collection for the entire family to enjoy. There are a few supprises too. We went into the tunnel a bit but it was too wet to proceed all the way. End of the tunnel is a 7 story staircase to climbe up.
We were very disappointed by this venue. Doesn't take cash and we could only must $14.00. We've barely used cash since covid. Needs to advertise cash only.
Was looking forward to visiting this museum but on arrival were advised that the only payment option was cash. Didn't appreciate the admonishment that we were foolish not to carry cash in the country because eftpos is unreliable. Needless to say we didn't visit here since we didn't have cash available.
Great experience of the History of Hill End Goldfields treasures you would not see anywhere else.
You could get lost in here for hours.so much to see and read and the collection of artefacts and information around days gone by is amazing. Well worth a visit. Kids loved the mine and the ladder climb to get out.you can really imagine what it would have been like for the early miners. Fantastic value for $10 and you would be hard pushed to find better.
Great place, very interesting and informative! The museum is an absolute treasure trove and if you take the time to read the information above the displays it will take at least an hour or so. The owner has poured his heart and soul into this place and it deserves to be acknowledged and supported.
