Helm Bar & Bistro reviews
63A great find while wandering around Sydney. Steak night special was great value and we want to figure out the recipe for the halloumi salad.
I felt the drinks were very diluted and overpriced. The bar staff were unable to answer basic questions like "what gins do you have on offer".
My friend and I went to Helm yesterday, and ordered fish and chips. It was the only thing we ate all day and by 6pm that day we were both throwing up for hours. Not to mention the service was terrible and there was dirty plates on all of the tables and we had to move the ones on our table so we could sit there. Do not recommend you get the fish unless you want food poisoning!
What a great place!
We were lucky enough to get the last table on a Saturday night. It was amazing!
Great food, great drinks (cocktails) and the staff were amazing!
Thank you!
I had the privilege of having a big "O" birthday here and would recommend Helm Bar to anyone… The venue was great, the food excellent, the music just pumped all night, as I did, and the staff and service were exceptional. A big shout out to Matisse, who made everything happen so smoothly… Happy Days
Came for the $19 Fish and chips with a glass of house. The food was okay but well priced under the lunch deal. Was served by Eddie who was absolutely lovely and made every penny worth it - thank you!
Family attended Wed night. $19 fish and chips with glass of wine was great value. Fish was perfectly cooked with a crispy and clean batter. Kids meals were highly praised, and the service was fast, friendly and accurate. Beautiful views over Darling Harbour.
Good location overlooking the water. Very quick service and friendly. It's quite open so it was a bit cold and the music was too loud for my liking. The food was fancy, but I wouldn't order my particular meal again as I wasnt keen. The people with me said they thoroughly enjoyed their meal so I think mine was just the wrong meal choice. I would recommend getting it as it might suit some people. I wouldn't go again. The price was average.
Food was verrry ordinary, size was much smaller than expected
Lately, the food has not been the best
Their advertised special of 2 mains for $40 is a rort. They won’t honour their own advertising. When we asked, the manager came out & gave some spiel about doing backflips, 3 twirls and only during full moon.
Many other nicer places with better food
Lovely location overlooking the water. A bit noisy but excellent service and super fast meals! Ordered a Parma which came with the most delicious coleslaw I've ever tasted! Great place and would come back again in a heartbeat.
Love all day. Erry day.
Staff are right at the Helm. Freindly, inviting. The food is excellent.
10/10 would smash
Good food with something to please the whole family. Excellent and friendly staff.and the music is in the background so you can have good conversation with friends
Great location, but didn't have a good experience here. Tables dirty & not cleaned even when staff cleared plates after people left. We had Aperol Spritz drinks.they were overpriced & watery.not made properly. Staff very distracted & not welcoming. We won't be going back!
Great location and nice atmosphere
The service is pretty average and staff are a bit inexperienced.
There was an entry fee which is unusual for a bar. Nice heating on the veranda made it cosy to hang out and enjoy the views.
Good location. Ordering is online which is great for groups as it is super easy to spilt bills. Happy hour cocktails are really good and only cost 10 bucks.
Would rate no stars if I could. Blonde security guard was taking pictures of our group before we even tried to enter the bar, then allowed all 4 of us to 'check in' via the service NSW app and then decided my brother who had one drink with dinner was too 'intox' to come in. We then asked him to delete the photos of us from his phone. He then became very aggressive and started swearing at my boyfriend and smacking my hand away when I asked him to stay calm and professional. Then after walking away we had another security guard with dark hair RUN up to us to scream & swear at my boyfriend again.they must have been really bored.
Used to enjoy coming to Helm - but after dealing the security they CHOOSE to represent their bar, I will not be coming back.
Last night 29/4/21, I attended Helm Bar, being part of a group booking. We were informed the place would be open until at least 10pm. At 8.20pm, they called last drinks, whilst still serving food, and at least 70 people still there. What a pitiful act. With bars etc complaining that they want patrons to spend money so that they can employ people, this sort of action by this premises is nothing short of a disgrace.
Food was ok but the staff were not very friendly. Especially one young guy when placing our order behind the bar was quite rude. Wouldn't be too keen to go back or recommend
Lovely views from the balcony upstairs. Standard range of beers. Love that they have introduced table service.
Nice food, very refreshing to see a different flavour palette with for a chicken schnitzel, red wine jus and Italian slaw. It's a new addition to their menu and one that should stay, far better than chips.
