Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre reviews
31Unpretentious display of interesting engines, carriages and other rail related paraphernalia. Thank you to the volunteers that preserve these trains and run the centre. Our whole family found it really interesting.
I had a really lovely visit to the Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre. It’s possible to do a day trip to here either via a train to Goulburn station and then getting a local taxi, or by car.
Tickets were very cheap at only $10 and one of the volunteers gave me a tour around the place. You could go into the cabs, go underneath the trains, and there’s quite a few hands on activities too. If you’re a train enthusiast like me, this is like heaven!
They also have places where private owners of locomotives and carriages can use their space to restore their stuff.
A must do when in Goulburn!
Highly recommend giving this place a visit. Was lovely to be taken around and shown everything. Kids also loved being able to go on the trains.
Would have liked to have seen this as we came to Goulburn especially for the rail. The Goulburn Valley information booklet said it would be open on Wednesday.but it wasn't.
The place is run down, it's more like a junk yard than a museum. The volunteers are very helpful and knowledgeable though, hence the two stars.
I loved the place with the staff very kind and the ancient trains that are part of history
Knowledgeable staff on tour, very hands-on, and feel lucky that you can get in the cab of a proper working 48 class.
Fascinating history of the railway at Goulburn. Knowledgeable volunteers run guided tours on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Well worth a visit.
Great historic experience. Private guide provided with entry fee. Lots of old train relics in various stages of restoration.
Great collection of NSW and Australian rail heritage rolling stock and artifacts.
The staff take tours for all guests and demonstrate great passion for their work.
Note, the staff are all volunteers.
Really great and large collection of locomotives and carriages. Spent way too long admiring all of the steel carriages.
Only $12 per adult for a full guided tour. Don't know a great deal about trains, but this was great and I highly recommend. Knowledgeable staff.
The guided tour takes 2 hours but feels like 2 minutes. This is the best railway museum we have been in.
A must visit in Goulburn especially for the train lovers.
This place has a huge collections of trains as well as the largest operating turntable in Australia.
Visit can only be conducted by guided tour and booking is essential.
The guide is very friendly and knowledgeable.
There is a small museum within the complex with collection of some rare items.
Gloves and masks are provided to protect the trains and also Covid 19.
An interesting place and the one of the only roundhouse in NSW with the equipment still there. The only negative is the trains there make it look more like a railway graveyard, than a restoration museum.
All in all an interesting place to visit if you are into railway history.
Great experience. Tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Tour took 2 hours. Toilet facilities very clean. Hope they get more funding to keep up the great work and maintain the property.
Stopped in to watch 3801 get turned around on the roundhouse, friendly staff and a nice collection of cars and locos.
Fantastic place, one of the 7 top rail heritage centres in the world - seriously underestimated place here in goulburn. Run by dedicated volunteers, what generous people
They let you sit in the driver's cab of all the trains! And walk through the engine room to see how they work too. The staff are great to talk to and incredibly knowledgeable. I spent most of the day there just absorbing the atmosphere.
