I have now had 2 Dr Sykes babies and there is no one else I would trust! He gives all the needed information, answers all your questions and most importantly is also so calm and supportive throughout the whole pregnancy and especially birth and at post check ups. His office team are also so lovely and helpful at every appointment along the way!
Thank you Dr Sykes for my healthy babies:)

My wife and I have had a great experience with Dr. Sykes. He is extremely experienced and calm, something we really needed after a miscarriage last year. We feel very safe in his hands and he goes above and beyond for his patients.

First Time Mum and went through the most horrible experience of my life.

1. Pre-delivery Preparation & Information was close to nothing
No Birthplan, nothing was discussed to prepare us for our first childbirth. Despite regular scans showing a big baby, Dr. Sykes waited till 40 weeks +2 days. We only learnt later from other OBs that the decision to induce labor is closely dependent on body structure/anatomy & ethnicity, both of which in my case should have indicated an earlier induction.

During the actual delivery, Dr. Sykes used vacuum & then forceps to deliver my baby, and also performed an episiotomy. I still ended up with THIRD DEGREE TEAR. He did NOT prepare us at all w.r. T what we should expect during the delivery, what can go wrong & what options would be available.

It was only after the delivery that midwife explained to me what an episiotomy and a 3rd degree tear is. With one quick look on my perineum, she knew that it was short & prone to tears. Dr. Sykes never checked my perineum before delivery. He neither took any precautions pre-delivery to avoid/reduce tears nor did he prepare me to expect them.

2. Multiple rounds of restitching in the office (NOT in OT)
After returning home, my perineal stitches split within a week. When I went to Dr. Sykes to have it checked, he stitched me again using local anesthesia in his office.

A few days later, they split again. At that time my GP suggested leaving them as is but Dr. Sykes decided to stitch them again, this time using the surrounding healthy skin area in the hope that it would hold. It split again. Now, instead of investigating the problem & considering alternative treatment options, he re-stitched me a 3rd time. He also kept blaming my tissues being too weak. When they split again after 4 days, he applied Silver Nitrate on the wound & finally left it open to heal on its own.

All this while, I was in extreme pain unable to sit/stand/walk or do anything constructive. And due to multiple splitting and re-stitching, my wound had dramatically worsened covering the entire perineum. It was now about 2 months post delivery. I felt like I am never gonna heal.

3. Zero Compassion and Concern
In each check-up after delivery & for the next 1.5 months, Dr. Sykes was rude and emotionless in his responses. He almost scolded me for complaining too much about the pain.

In the end, he gave up & referred me to a PLASTIC SURGEON to get my perineum sorted. Since then, he never tried to contact me to check how I was doing.

So, for a long 2.5 months, I was mostly on bed rest, unable to hold my baby & weakened physically and emotionally. I was on painkillers throughout that time & antibiotics for most of it.

4. The Good Outcome from a 2nd Opinion
I went through all this ordeal because I trusted that Dr. Sykes was doing the right thing. After realizing a complete failure in handling my case by Dr. Sykes, we finally decided to get opinions from a few other OBs, all of who confirmed that the treatment I received cannot be classified as professional intervention. They were all shocked when I showed them pictures of how my perineal wound grew after each round of re-stitching.

The 2nd OB that we eventually went ahead and knew exactly what had been done wrong. He performed a DEBRIDEMENT SURGERY in OT to cleanup over-granulation tissues on my perineal wound. He even stitched me up properly this time. Within 10 days after that surgery, I was able to walk normally. And in another week I was 100% up & about. I was finally happy!

5. Lessons Learnt
Wish we would have gone to other OBs much earlier. It would have shortened the length of my suffering so much. And if I had refused to get re-stitched after the 2nd split, unnecessary damage to my perineum could have been avoided.

Dr. Sykes may be experienced but he misjudged my case at almost every stage & completely sabotaged my postpartum recovery due to his bad decisions. In my personal opinion, he has completely failed as a medical professional. I sincerely hope nobody ever goes through what I went through even after going Private.

Dr Sykes was a fantastic obstetrician. I cannot recommend him enough.
He has successfully delivered all my nieces and nephews (through both c-sections and vaginal deliveries) as well as my beautiful two boys with great care and guidance.
He is efficient, and puts any worries you may have to rest. You also get to see your baby at each appointment you visit him, where all photos are exported to your own personal USB documenting your bubba.
Thanks Dr Sykes for being truly dedicated to your profession!

We are so grateful we had Dr Gary as our obstetrician. We had both our daughters with him and would recommend him highly enough.
I have always felt very comfortable and safe in his care. He has always answered any doubts and questions I had and the best thing is he is available on social media if you have any questions after hours.
Julie and Kylee meets you with beautiful smiles at reception.
Would see him again if we plan another one in future

Dr Sykes is the most amazing obstetrician I have come across. After three miscarriages under the care of other obstetricians, Dr Sykes took the time to conduct extensive tests to try and prevent another miscarriage. Once I was pregnant, he monitored me very closely right from the beginning. He was always calm, encouraging and did everything he could to get my high-risk pregnancy to full term. He took nothing to chance and always acted immediately which was always so reassuring. It is easy to see that he loves what he does. My husband and I will be forever thankful to Dr Sykes for helping us have our miracle baby.

Thank you for looking after me and my baby Dr Sykes, and thank you to your gorgeous reception staff, until next time.

I have been very fortunate to be in the care of Dr Sykes over the past 6 years or so. I have been blessed with two healthy boys, however, my journey to motherhood wasn't easy and had it's ups and downs, to say the least! Gary is an exceptional doctor and I would highly recommend him to others.

After a traumatic first birth Dr Sykes came recommended by several other mothers. He helped me overcome the trauma of my first birth with his caring, calm, reassuring manner and most importantly his years of experience and wealth of knowledge. I also loved how he is very up to date with technology and all his measurements have been spot on. In the end he helped deliver my second and third. Would highly recommend Dr Gary Sykes.

After a tragic 1st pregnancy, I screened 2 other OBs before opting for Dr Sykes. He was such a blessing during my 2nd pregnancy. Couldn't agree more with other reviewers on how experienced he is. At the same time, he is also a kind, gentle and very down to earth human being. He supported me with utmost dedication and sincerity not just medically but also emotionally with hugs and words of encouragement which greatly helped with my anxiety. This one time I was feeling very anxious during a regular visit and I felt so blessed by his kindness when I received a surprise call from him personally a few hours later checking on me and reassuring me my pregnancy was going well. Only someone who truly cares for his patients would do that. Even phlebotomists at pathologies in the area know of him and say wonderful things about him.
I was bleeding throughout the 1st trimester and he managed my condition so carefully with weekly blood tests adjusting the dosage of the pessaries. Even his team of specialists (anaesthetist and paediatrician) are amazing.
Kylee and Melissa are so accommodating and manage the clinic so efficiently. I have never waited more than 10 mins for my appt and they even knew my preferred days and time. Dr Sykes, Mel and Kylee have been such a calming presence during the course of my pregnancy. I could not recommend this practice highly enough!

What can I say about this amazing team! Dr Sykes and team are the best around and I wouldn’t go anywhere else
From the first time we walked through that door when we went for our first appointment to us leaving with our gorgeous baby girl it has been nothing but an absolutely pleasure and comfortable time
Everything was described to us in detail and each and every appointment we were greeted with smiles and answers to our questions no matter how small or silly they were
Our baby girl at 20 weeks was diagnosed with congenital scoliosis and Dr Sykes helped guide us to all the right people to speak to and reassured us with every visit that she was in safe hands and she was! We never ever doubted that
You made this scary and unknown time a pleasant one and I very grateful for you and the team for allowing me to be a mum
We will see you next time for Bub 2

I had 2 pregnancies with Dr Sykes. Dr Sykes is obviously very experienced and competent. Unfortunately I personally found Dr Sykes to be fairly insensitive and dismissive of several of my concerns and requests. I was extremely nauseous and vomiting many times a day in my first pregnancy. I spoke with Dr Sykes about how this was impacting on my ability to go to work and function day to day. Dr Sykes looked me up and down and told me "You will be fine. You can stand to skip a few meals". This was not only offensive, but incredibly dismissive of my actual concern. I had complications with my first pregnancy with severe preeclampsia. At no point did Dr Sykes take the time to explain to me that this is actually what happened to me, despite me asking.

My second pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at 11 weeks. It was clear from 7 weeks that my pregnancy was non-viable. Dr Sykes refused to do a D&C. I had to wait 4 weeks to miscarry. After I miscarried I was understandably distressed and sad. Dr Sykes basically told me that he has "many girls" who have a had half a dozen miscarriages. I understand that many women experience miscarriages and my situation is not uncommon. However, he was clearly uncomfortable with me expressing my sadness and crying in his office. I find this unusual given the patient population he works with. I felt patronised.

I have since had a third pregnancy with another obstetrician. Having someone explain what is happening in a respectful way made all the difference.

My take home message is that, if you tend to be an emotional person and want someone to be sensitive to your situation perhaps go elsewhere. If you want great medical care with minimal sensitivity you will be very happy.

Also this is not a fake review, I just didn't want to use my real name as I feel it is pointless. I just feel it is important for women to feel heard and be informed about their medical care.
