Tu Do Vietnamese Restaurant reviews
55 Everything was delicious especially the lemon grass and chilli chicken. I went back this morning to pick up my phone which I left there last night and the owner has charged it for me.
Easy to see why this little restaurant has been operated by the same family for 42 years.
Tu Do serves disappointing pho and features mediocre service at best.
The pho lacks the distinct traditional herbs used in a pho broth. This makes the pho taste like generic beef stock. The portion size is average at best. The service was inattentive despite being a less than busy evening meal time. The servers were often scrolling through their phone while multiple customers were trying to get their attention.
Have been here number of times over the years! The quality of the food is not bad and fairly consistent. The pho broth was pretty nice but serving portions could have been improved and didn’t have as many types of ingredients compared to others. The pork chop was nice but a little fry. Overall a good option for Vietnamese in cbd area.
I have been going to the Tu Do for the past 30 years, and the food is always consistent and delicious. I highly recommend it.
Delicious. The kids and adults on my family love the food made here, especially the Vietnamese mint beef!
Best Vietnamese in Canberra - what some of the other reviewers here don't seem to understand is that the restaurant is a small, local, family-run business - obviously it will be busy on particular nights of the week, and sometimes the servers will be stressed. I've never had a problem walking in without a reservation. Give them a break. Supporting local means supporting small family businesses too. Fantastic pho and veggie spring rolls.
It is one of good Vietnamese restaurant in canberra. Special beef noodle soup is my favorite one. Yummy
My Vietnamese friend Vinh recommended this place. Vietnamese is his favourite cuisine now it's also mine. Very nice food and I loved the coffee
The food was okay and the restaurant is fairly clean. But the service was absolutely atrocious. The lady who waited our table (seemingly the owner) was rude and snappy. When we kindly asked for some cooked bean sprouts for our pho, she went ahead and disciplined us that our request would be creating more unnecessary work for her. She continued to be rude until we got up to pay, throwing the bill onto the counter without a single word. Overall it was a terrible experience and we will not be returning. There are much better Vietnamese options around the area.
Unfriendly staff, there are flys in the restaurant, spicy noodle with beef, but beef is not fresh. Will not come back.
Went there for the pho recently. Great broth, great tasting. Grossly insufficient noodles - like about half what a normal portion would be. Ok beef. Decent price ($13/13.50 for a bowl). But i'd much rather pay a little more for a complete meal.
One of our favourite restaurants in Canberra, great service, fresh ingredients, excellent value, relaxed atmosphere, kind and generous owner. Thankyou.
Our new go-to for work lunches. Good for 1 to 8 people. Great food, good value. Love the banquet option. Dessert is a bit so-so but everything else was awesome. My favourite is the stuffed chicken wings.
It was awful, we order 4 different dishes and they all came out looking the same with no taste. The stir fry chicken was boilded chicken with uncooked veggies
This is a good place if you want to try some Vietnamese food in a more authentic way. Lots of Vietnamese restaurants sweeten the food too much - some may like it but that's not typical of Vietnamese cuisine. Tu Do fares better and more consistently than many Vietnamese restaurants in Canberra.
Friendly reliable service and hearty food, especially the combi broken rice, with egg. Nice owner too
Busy little Vietnamese restaurant tucked away at the O'Connor shops. Unglamorous and very casual, but the food is excellent. Great roast duck soup!
Not a good experience. Lack of ambiance, average food and plain service. They really need some gentle Vietnamese music playing in the background so you don't have to listen to people slurping around you. Maybe it was just the day, will give it another go.
Not too bad for a small Vietnamese restaurant. Quite busy each time we're there. By Canberra standards it's good but considering I'm from Sydney and have tried many better Vietnamese restaurants and lots of beef noodle soups so I have to be very criticial of the noodle soups: the beef was too cooked despite it being labelled 'pho tai' which means semi raw beef, smaller than usual servings of noodles, and reduced flavours in the soup (a little diluted)
No a great experience. Thursday night VERY busy, making the place quite noisey and cramped.
2 dishes we ordred were completely incorrect. Food took a very long time to come out. Most of the dishes were average at best. However the duck leg soup was quite good (possibly the only saving grace).
Probably wouldn't return here. So many better options around Canberra for Vietnamese food.
