Dumpling Inn Restaurant reviews
45 Very calm and relaxing place
Great serving size and reasonable prices. The people who served us was very kind and humble. I highly recommend this place.
We went for Yum Cha. They have a limited menu and we felt the quality of the dumplings we ordered were not good. We have ordered takeaway in the evening and really enjoyed the Shan Tung Chicken.
A bit better than your typical suburban Chinese restaurant. The food is a bit more elevated and interesting. Jimmy the chef and host personally ensures the quality of ingredients making for very pleasant eating at very reasonable price. BYO is a bonus. Happy to recommend.
It is just not right to serve a dish full of gelatin and no flavour. And charge 16aud. Having to dump bad food is double hassle.
We had lunch here today. 4 adults and 3 kids. Food was yum and service great. The honey chicken was the best we’ve had in a long time and the prawn dumplings were great. We also had beef in oyster sauce which was also delicious.
I used to come here often pre covid and the food was great. First time back after a few years and unfortunately the food was below average. Ordered beef with vegetables & there were only a few veggies throughout the dish. The fried rice was pretty average too.tasted like it wasn’t made fresh and microwaved.
Apart from that, the waitresses were lovely. Thanks for dinner!
Faithful fan for 30 years, some of the best Chinese in Canberra. Shallot cakes are the best I've had. New owners might've even made some of the dishes better!
So Delicious! Everything ordered was so good and cooked perfectly. Highlights: shallot cake, dim sim and beef strips in peking sauce.
Fantastic meals as usual. Large portions and good value. I love their hot and sour soup, dumplings and shallot cakes.
Yum Cha no longer available as they don't have a yum cha chef. No mango pudding or custard tarts which were previous favorites. Created our own banquet with individual dishes shared at the table.
I visited DI about a couple of months ago after it was closed for a while and found it ok. The special fish @$48 was disappointing while the other dishes were average. Decided to give it another try a fortnight ago with a different group. Ordered the hot/sour which was nice while the pork vinegar was ok and the other dishes didn't get there for the group. I remember DI fondly when I see it as our local Chinese before it was closed ie preCovid.
Classic and hearty chinese food! We came on a weekday for dinner and wasn’t disappointed. I really enjoyed the Beijing style sesame pockets that you stuff the pork mince mix into. The beef was tender and tofu dish was really nicely cooked too. The service could be improved a little but overall pretty satisfied.
Some of the best Chinese food we've had. Recommend the Mongolian beef and Grandma's bean curd (mapo tofu).
Saw all the amazing reviews and thought we had to give this place a go but could not be more disappointed from the beginning.
Walked in the door (and we had a booking as well) and were ignored and so we stood there yet Asians behind us were greeted and seated and it took few more minutes for a staff member to greet us, and this was seen again and again throughout our dining experience which was absolutely appalling and humiliating for potential diners.
No ambiance what so ever.
The menu as a vegetarian was so difficult and unpleasant to navigate as things didn't specify what they were for example "dumplings" didn't say what sort of dumplings they were.
Food was absolutely terrible anyhow, the fried rice was burnt, my chow mein had very soggy "crunchy" noodles, the honey chicken my partner ordered was disgusting and inedible as it was soggy and the most greasy piece of "food" he had ever been served, we had to leave as he felt very unwell from the few bits he managed to eat.
Do not recommend this place at all.
Service was average, atmosphere was not great, and the food was inedible. Rice tasted burnt, honey chicken was nothing but thick, overcooked batter and fatty thigh. Would not recommend.
Fantasticly friendly staff. The food was very tasty with generous portions. Will definitely be going back for the honey chicken.
I ordered take away food on the phone and picked it up personally after. They charged me 50 cents per container. Considering that the effort is minimum for them I think it is outrageous. (I mean I wouldn't mind if I would be dining in and ask for the containers to take leftovers home but that was not the situation). The noodles were super oily and tasteless and the satay chicken was so yellow and spicy that looked like curry chicken and didn't have any peanut.
Won't come back
Haven't had a bad dish from here, ever. I'd have to list the whole menu if I wanted to tell you what meals were good.
I found this restaurant from a friend and its quite hidden but I love it. Food is very yummy and consistent everytime.
Good tasty food. Great to see it has reopened. Go for the Dumplings and handmade noodles. The crispy duck pancakes are very good too.
