York Cottages & Burnley House reviews
4Great place to stay and explore the area of York! Plenty to do for 4-10 year old kids on site.
I recently stayed at York cottages, in particular the Pendle cottage. When we arrived we had a hard time locating the place on Apple Maps but using the exact address from the website helped us find it. There’s no large sign in front so keep an eye out for a small one on a white fence. From the photos and description of the place it was made out to be a farm retreat providing idyllic farm views and an isolation from the town.
Positives
The cottages were well managed and clean inside. There was a reverse cycle aircon in the cottage which kept us warm when our fire didn’t work out. There was ample parking for our car and the back part of the cottage was closed off making it great for pets. I also met Gayle (the owner) she was very kind and welcoming when i saw her. The location was great as it was only a couple minute drive into town.
Negatives
the cottage was placed very oddly on the property, basically wall to wall with settlers cottage and the private residence of the owner. The cottages were also far forward on the property meaning they were basically right on Ulster road which is rather busy and our view from the cottage was just the main road which made it feel less like a farm stay. Due to the cottages being so close to each other we were able to hear the people in the private residences shouting when we woke up in the morning and went outside.
The lady who was staying in the private residences next door who was quite unfriendly and despite the place being advertised as pet friendly she complained about our dog being there. This made things quite awkward as she was right next door to us. We also only had access to our cottage and a small grassed area with a tennis court when staying at the cottages so if you want a farm to explore this is not the case.
Overall it was a nice place to stay in terms of cleanliness and location. Gayle was also very kind and the alpacas were cute to see up close as a feeding station was set up for guests to feed them. If you wanted an isolated farm stay however I would say this isn’t really the place for you.
Amazing heritage cottage stay. Loved staying in settlers cottage. The most welcoming owners. Highly recommend a weekend farm stay for the whole family. Playground, farm animals and so much more
