Vinnies Applecross reviews
18 I would not recommend this Vinnie's, this charity op shop does not reflect a thrift store where you can find affordable clothing rather a boutique in an affluent area that are profit-driven. While I understand that the organisation relies on the revenue from their shops to support charitable groups, I couldn't help but feel that some of their pricing practices are unreasonable.
First and foremost, it's crucial to acknowledge that Vinnies plays a vital role in funding programs and services in Western Australia, benefiting various charitable causes.
However, my concern lies in the pricing of items, particularly clothing, at this particular Vinnies location. I noticed that some pieces, which I suspect originated from budget stores like Kmart and Boohoo, were priced significantly higher than what you would expect to pay in other thrift stores and even first hand retail stores themselves. For example, a basic $10 Kmart shirt was marked up to a staggering $20. This pricing seemed excessive, given the nature of thrift shops and the fact that most patrons are looking for affordable options. Earlier replies that claim some of their clothing prices are as low as $2 simply did not reflect my experience at all.
While I appreciate the store's efforts to stock high-quality and brand-name items, I believe they need to strike a better balance between offering quality merchandise and ensuring affordability for their customers. Thrift stores should be a place where people from all walks of life can find reasonably priced items that suit their needs and budgets.
I hope Vinnies can reconsider their pricing strategy, especially for items that clearly originate from lower-priced retailers. This would help ensure that their thrift store remains accessible to a wider range of customers while still supporting their charitable efforts.
Went here for the 1st this weekend. Overall a good experience - yes the prices are higher than other op shops and for some items with visible wear and tear it seemed excessive but you can find some barely used pieces from good brands for a good price (which is what I was there for). My only pet peeve was that the clothing was organised by colour (a nice look overall) but I prefer shops where they organise by size so I don’t have to go through everything to find what I like in the right size. Which is what I had to do here and it wasted a bunch of my limited time I was there. And can be disappointing when you find something you like but it’s not the right size.
Worst vinnies I’ve come across for the “brand” price hike. How is this a “opportunity” shop when you charge excessively more for something with a brand on it. Forcing those with less money to settle for the lesser items. Great work creating a class divide in a donations store. Very applecross.
This "opportunity store" is only there to help the rich, I mean $100 for a shabby denim jacket who on the pension can afford $100 for a very old and ratty jacket? I know I can't. Maybe rename the store from an OP shop to up market 2nd hand boutique
This may be the worst Vinnies in WA. Almost every piece of adult clothing is over $25, including junk brands like Boo Hoo. I saw a heavily worn pair of boots for $45 which are only $50 new from a budget mall shoe bazar. Really ridiculous. You can see the shoppers shaking their heads with eyebrows shooting up when they look at the price tags. Embarrassing for Vinnies really. Head to Freo where the op shops are amazing and much more fairly priced.
Used to love this branch. So organised and very nice finds.however, went back yesterday (Feb 2022) and was shocked with the prices. $20 for a 2nd hand unbranded T-Shirt, really? $18 for a shorts? Not going back.
A lot of the items were more expensive or the same price as Kmart and other clothes shops I was in today. It’s not a vintage shop? !
Very nice items, clean site, enough space and hooks in change room.
Prices are all sitting ~$20 so it's not your super cheap second hand store.
Well laid out and very friendly staff but the pricing here is much more expensive compared to similar items at other stores. One of the few op shops I rarely leave with anything and sadly that's just due to overpricing. Head to Vinnie's Balcatta to continue donating to Vinnie's and a more reasonable price
Been in a lot of charity stores in my time and the prices of the clothing are more than double of other stores even the other vinnies about 5 kilometres away
This shop was great until they started pricing the no-brand T-shirts $15 to $22, now it’s not worth the drive to Applecross. There was a H&M tshirt that costs $9 new on sale at H&M, and Vinnies selling it for $15. Another one with a hole in it for $18. Please start pricing your clothes appropriately because not everyone can afford your prices. It’s actually cheaper to go to DFO and shop in the sales when your prices for T-shirts are so high and it also doesn’t encourage people to think of the environment and shop secondhand. Was a fan but unfortunately not anymore.
Unfortunately Vinnies Applecross don’t make any apology for selling things at prices higher than if the items were new and still insist that they are charity when the staff inside refuse to adjust prices when asked.
Had some nice stuff in there but was double the price of what you'd pay at op shops elsewhere.
Bit more expensive than other op shops in the area, but some good finds today that were worth the $$, and the clothing is good quality/not worn to shreds. Staff are absolutely lovely, I'll definitely be visiting here again.
Great op shop. Obviously it is pricier than other op shops, but the place is clean, organized and the products you find there would definitely cost hundreds or thousands of dollars if purchased anywhere else or wouldn’t even be available in Australia (heaps of European brand names).
Store is clean and staff are friendly,
but if you are looking forward a bargain this is not the place for you. I visit various op shops regularly and this is the most overpriced and expensive one I have ever been to.
Not sure who does the pricing here but they clearly have no idea how charity works. I don't mind spending a few extra dollars for a designer item but when Kmart clothing is priced at almost double the price Kmart charges, thats just someone being greedy.
Great op shop, large selection of clothing and some very nice nik-naks too, plus a good range of jewellery. Parking is available nearby.
Wonderful customer service with a boutique fashion outlet feel. Staff are always happy to help and they know their stock extremely well.
